Water Challenge is the fifthChallenge Stage unlocked inKirby's Return to Dream Land and the seventh Challenge Stage unlocked inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It testsKirby's proficiency with theWaterCopy Ability in a series of chambers, where the goal is to defeat all the enemies and collect all the coins as quickly as possible. The window of time to earn a Platinum Medal is 0:30 or higher.
Layout[edit]
The stage consists of two main chambers and two side chambers.
The first main chamber begins with a series of enemies andScore Coins that Kirby can quickly defeat/collect by using Wave Surf. From there, after collecting a ceiling cache of coins insideStar Blocks, the path forward can be cleared by breaking magma blocks preventingGordos from drifting away. The second such Gordo will drift upward toward a door leading to the first side area. In this room, Kirby will need to hit threeswitches at once to drop down fast-closing shutters and get a cache of coins. Back on the main path, Kirby will need to traverse scalding hot floors and then use his Geyser attack to clear out blocks above him in his way. One last set of Wave Surfs need to be performed with the right timing to hit enemies on floors that regularly shift up and down. From there, the door to the next area can be found after diving through a line ofBronto Burts.
The second main chamber begins above a barricade of magma blocks which will need to be broken to progress through a hall containing walking Bronto Burts. After clearing out more magma block barricades, a side door can be found by hitting a switch encased in a larger set of blocks in the lower-left corner. Entering this door leads to a room where Kirby will need to squeeze through a tight scalding hot tunnel to get to another cache of coins. Back on the main path, Kirby will need to use his Fountain Hover to collect coins and defeat enemies as he moves along a perilous route past more hot surfaces and Gordos. From there, after diving through threeHot Heads encased in Star Blocks, Kirby can surf along a bridge of magma blocks to reach the stage exit, which is guarded by more Bronto Burts.
Apart from a few extra coins, there are no significant differences in Extra Mode.

Tips[edit]
There are a few things to keep in mind when aiming for Platinum on this stage, though it should be noted that the strategies listed here are by no means the only ones that will do the job:
- Careful timing and positioning of moves is critical in this stage. It is very easy to miss an enemy or coin while using Wave Surf, or accidentally drift too high while using Fountain Hover.
- Using Kirby's regular dash allows him to surf safely over scalding hot surfaces. This is handy for collecting coins low down to the ground, as Wave Surf will pass right over them.
- The magma blocks need to be hit twice to be broken, though the first hit cools them off, allowing Kirby to stand on them without being burned. Some moves, like Rainbow Rain, will hit these blocks twice with one attack.
