This article is about the reoccurring Kirby enemy. For an item in Kirby Air Ride, which was renamed to Walky, seeMike (item).
Walky is an anthropomorphic microphoneenemy which makes regular appearances in theKirby series, first appearing inKirby Super Star. He resembles a sentient old stage microphone with red feet and a mouth, and his sides each have a yellow hinge that connect the dark blue head with the yellow or tan mouth. Walky is typically found walking around or sitting in place; when Kirby draws near, he attacks by singing, shooting out harmful musical note projectiles. In all of his appearances, ifKirby inhales and swallows a Walky, he will grant him theMikeCopy Ability. Perhaps due in part to him providing a limited-use ability, Walky has never appeared as aHelper character.
Walky walking over to Kirby andPoppy Bros. Jr. inKirby Super Star
Walky makes his first appearance as a regular enemy inKirby Super Star and returns inits remake. Encountered only in a very small number of locations throughout either game, this enemy usually walks back and forth and stops regularly to yell three musical notes atKirby, which hurt him on contact. Only one Walky in the game, encountered in the fourth stage ofDyna Blade, possesses a different behavior; he moves faster than a regular Walky and runs away from Kirby with a gasp when he spots him instead of attacking, making him harmless as long as Kirby does not collide with him directly.
Walky possesses 16 points of health and increases Kirby's score by 890 points when defeated. Kirby can also swallow him for the Mike ability.
InKirby Air Ride, Walky can be found on variousAir Ride courses, where he sits still and sings to himself until he is inhaled by a passing Kirby or otherwise defeated. He grants theMike ability as usual.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Walky appears rarely inKirby's Return to Dream Land, letting out musical notes that harm anyone they touch. Like before, swallowing him grants theMike ability.
Walky appears in this title. He provides theMike ability to Kirby, but cannot be recruited as aFriend, instead turning into the MikeAbility Item when Kirby tosses aFriend Heart at him.
"A microphone who trudges along and enjoys himself as he sings. By inhaling Walky, Kirby gains the ability to shout, allowing him to clear all enemies off the screen with a high-volume blast. This is a powerful ability that can only be used up to three times. In Kirby Air Ride, this ability sends every racer within range into a spin."

"Walky is really just a microphone...that can walk. He's a retro sort of microphone that would look at home in a radio studio. His musical notes are more harmful than tuneful, so be sure to stay out of their way! If you manage to inhale Walky, you'll get the Mike ability, letting you destroy nearby enemies with just the power of your voice!"

InKirby: Right Back at Ya!, Walky appears as themonster of the day in the episodeAbusement Park, where it is described as "the microphone Monster". It is ordered fromNight Mare Enterprises byKing Dedede and, at the suggestion of theN.M.E. Sales Guy, used as a microphone for a karaoke contest. It is inhaled byKirby for the Mike ability when it is his turn to sing, which causes the plan to send him to N.M.E. Headquarters to backfire and promptly destroys all the monsters, and Kirby later destroysCastle Dedede inadvertently. Walky later emerges from the rubble - having apparently been spat out by Kirby at some point - but when it sees Kirby again, Walky runs away in horror and is not seen again. Notably, the anime refers to Walky using neutral pronouns.
His loud voice that he lets out whenever he gets excited could be very destructive.

In theKirby novel series, Walky is one ofKing Dedede's many subordinates. He has a painfully loud voice that can hurt anyone's eardrums when he yells. Walky has a lifelong dream of being a commentator, which he achieves in later novels. On thecover forKirby: Big Race in Pupupu Land!, Walky's head is depicted to be black, instead of the usual navy blue.
The following is a complete list of every appearance Walky has made in theKirby novel series, along with the role he plays and its details in the plot of each volume:
In this volume, Walky is one of the three thieves who kidnapsMrs. Parfaitski, with the other two beingWheelie andSir Kibble. Walky shows up when Wheelie leadsKirby and co. to the cave that Mrs. Parfaitski is held hostage in. He uses his loud voice to stop the group, so he can explain their reason for kidnapping her. Wheelie quickly silences him; he and Sir Kibble then explain that they all kidnapped Mrs. Parfaitski because she was cruel to her chefs and locked them up. The group then heads to where an angry Mrs. Parfaitski is tied up. Kirby inhales Walky to gain theMike ability, and sings an ear-splitting song with food-themed lyrics. Kirby then drops the ability, releasing a dazed Walky, who was fortunate enough to miss out on the song. With Mrs. Parfaitski finally giving in, the group returns to her mansion to free the locked away chefs.
In this volume, Walky meets a TV producer namedKizario, who will be organizing a race in Dream Land to broadcast on TV. Kizario lets Walky be in it, and sends him off to spread the word about it. Then, Walky callsMeta Knight to ask him to help commentate the race, which he reluctantly accepts. Throughout the race, Walky is the enthusiastic commentator, while Meta Knight sometimes provides disinterested comments. At the singing challenge, Kirby inhales Walky to destroy the competition with the Mike ability. When Walky is eventually freed, he is mad at Kirby, and leaves withMr. Frosty. On the way back, Walky and Mr. Frosty hear a sound coming from the forest, and check what is going on there. They come across amonster, which makes Walky scream so loud that all the contestants come over to investigate. After everyone leaves the forest, the race's ratings turn out to be too low for Kizario to let Walky continue as his commentator.
In this volume, Walky takes the role of the announcer and commentator ofDedede's Cake Royale. Walky announces the entrance of Kirby,Waddle Dee and their opponents to the different arenas, explains the rules of the games and commentates during the match. During the game ofCrazy Theater, he reveals to the teams which of the answers is correct one. At the start of the semifinals, when Walky explains the rules ofFlagball, he becomes afraid of Meta Knight, who shows a lack of interest following those rules. At the finals, when he tries to tell Kirby andKing Dedede that the match is a round of Crazy Theater, Dedede yells at him to be quiet, ignoring the rules of the game. Walky tries to tell him that he has already prepared the questions for Crazy Theater, but Dedede and Kirby ignore him, proceeding to have a one-on-one battle. Walky gives up and changes the rules so that the victor wins by knocking down the other. After King Dedede refuses to give up after his lose, Walky tries to tell him that it is already over but keeps getting ignored. Walky tells Kirby that he and everybody else will root for him in the final match. He doesn't commentate the fight against theDededestroyer Z, being replaced by theWaddle Dee Report Crew.

In the English version ofSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, the Walky trophy listsKirby's Dream Land as an appearance (which is itself erroneously listed as an NES game in the American version), conflating the enemy with themicrophone item. The Japanese version of the aforementioned game, alongside all versions ofSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, listKirby's Adventure instead, but this still isn't correct, as the only providers of the Mike ability in said game areMr. Tick-Tock andPaint Roller's mike (although the latter greatly resembles Walky).
