"Uncanny Underground"[2] is a music track that first appeared inKirby: Squeak Squad. It was composed byJun Ishikawa.[1]

Composition[edit]

Metal Kirby finds some treasure in the uncanny underground.

"Uncanny Underground" is an eerie song, reminiscent of other unsettling songs of the series such as "Catacombs", set on 6/8. Its intro, mostly made of percussion instruments, sets its mood and main countermelody, that persist with little variance for the whole song. A simple melody then begins, mostly made of long notes, played by a loud synth. After a couple bars, the main countermelody of the track goes down in pitch, as the main melody does as well, and a bell joins in to play another countermelody. The main melody's synth holds out a note, as the song transitions to a quick bridge, that prompts the track to replay most of the song thus far, with the only difference at first being a different drum pattern from the drum kit. Eventually, a rattle percussion instrument joins in the synth and plays the main melody alongside it for a couple bars, until it dissipates, and the song transitions to the segment featuring the bell countermelody, then the segment with the held out note. The percussion slows down until it becomes almost silent, as the main melody and countermelody continue playing, also slower. The drum kit only plays one beat per bar, until it completely stops, and the two instruments continue playing, becoming slower and slower. Then, they quickly go back to their original tempos, and the percussion comes back, as the song loops.
