Ultra Sword is aSuper Ability that debuted inKirby's Return to Dream Land, obtained by inhaling or defeating aSuper Blade Knight. Like the regularSword ability,Kirby gains a floppy green cap with the ability, though with extra designs on the brim and star emblems on the forehead and tip.
Ultra Sword is the most common Super Ability in the game by a fair margin, and is featured on the front of the North American box art forKirby's Return to Dream Land. Ultra Sword is alsoKirby'sFinal Smash inSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U andUltimate, and serves as one of his special attacks inKirby Air Riders.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Kirby obtains this ability in specific areas of the game, by swallowing or otherwise defeating aSuper Blade Knight which appears for that specific purpose.

Upon use, Kirby produces a rather large sword or similar cutting implement, which he proceeds to swing in a very large arc across the screen. Like other Super Abilities, the attack defeats any common enemy ormid-boss in one hit, while it also destroys any terrain or obstacle marked with large stars.
The first swing with the ability will produce a more involved cutscene, while swinging with nothing in the target zone will produce no cutscene at all.

Usage in boss battles[edit]
Ultra Sword is used by Kirby during two boss battles in Story/Extra Mode:Grand Doomer andMagolor. In both cases, the boss in question shields himself when his health gets very low; the shield must be broken with Super Abilities.
Ultra Sword is guaranteed to be the last Super Ability to appear, and can then used to finish off the boss once the shield has broken. If the boss is not defeated once the shield is broken, it will regenerate slightly. When used for the final blow, the choice of weapon is not random (the regular sword always appears) and it grows to an even larger size forMagolor specifically.
However, Magolor is not totally defeated by Kirby's Ultra Sword during the Story/Extra Mode battle. The attack causes theMaster Crown to surpass its own limits and revives Magolor asa much more powerful beast.
WhenMagolor's health is lowered to approx. 50-60% of his maximum health in his second phase, he also makes use of Super Abilities. Notably,Magolor Soul conjures dual giant dark-coloredGalaxia replicas as his Ultra Sword attack which cannot beguarded by Kirby.
During the second phase of the final boss fight with theMaster Crown inMagolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler, Magolor creates his own Ultra Sword by infusing all of his magic into an ordinary sword, which he uses to finish off the Master Crown. His Ultra Sword is the same one that he uses as a Dream Friend inKirby Star Allies.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
InKirby: Triple Deluxe, Ultra Sword Kirby with the default sword is one of the sculptures that theStone ability can transform into. This sculpture is steel-colored.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
InKirby: Planet Robobot, Ultra Sword appears as asticker. The gold-colored Ultra Sword Kirby with the fish is one of the sculptures that the Stone ability can transform into.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]
The Stone sculpture fromKirby: Planet Robobot returns inKirby Star Allies, though now it is colored silver instead of gold. Additionally,Magolor can use the Ultra Sword as one of his attacks and his variant has his signature gear symbol on the hilt.
Kirby Fighters 2[edit]
The Ultra Sword Hat returns fromKirby Battle Royale inKirby Fighters 2. It is unlocked forSword Kirby upon attainingFighters Rank 46.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
InKirby's Dream Buffet, Ultra Sword Kirby appears on aCharacter Treat, using his artwork fromKirby's Return to Dream Land.
Kirby Air Riders[edit]
InKirby Air Riders, Ultra Sword appears as theSpecial move of pink Kirby. When activated, Kirby dons the usual hat and default sword of the Super Ability and repeatedly slashes ahead of him while gaining a slight speed boost, damaging foes in range. When the Special ends, Kirby performs a finishing slash with increased damage and poses before the ability disappears.

Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U,Kirby uses the Ultra Sword as hisFinal Smash, replacingCook Kirby fromBrawl.
To execute the move, Kirby must first shatter theSmash Ball, then strike an opponent with the sword. If no opponent is in range, the sword strike will miss and the move will fail. Any opponents who get struck will be trapped, as Kirby then slashes several times with the sword from varying directions, finishing off with one last big strike that will send them flying.
Functionally, it is similar to Link'sTriforce Slash, but it can catch multiple targets in its wake, and its slashes will hit other opponents much more easily if they venture too close in.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, Ultra Sword remains asKirby'sFinal Smash. The Ultra Sword (official art fromKirby's Return to Dream Land) also makes an appearance as aSupport Spirit, which is ranked ★★★ Ace and has the "Chance of Double Final Smash" skill.
