ATreasure Chest is an object which has been featured in several games in theKirby series. The exact nature of a treasure chest varies between titles, but it always serves the base purpose of holdingTreasure and other items of value. Treasure chests first appeared inKirby Super Star, inThe Great Cave Offensive, and most games since then which use treasure chests have used the same concept.
Game Appearances[edit]
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
- Main article:Treasure
![]()
Treasure chests appear as objects inThe Great Cave Offensive, withKirby's goal being to open as many of them as possible before leaving the cave network. There are 60 of them in total, each with a unique item. Treasure chests can be opened if Kirby is standing in front of one and the player presses up on the + Control Pad, which will play a small cutscene and display the item that was received, along with its value. Treasure chests can be made to appear by pressingswitches, breakingBomb Blocks, or defeating certain enemies, and will fall if not supported by a platform. If a treasure chest is lost, Kirby will need to leave the room and then come back again to get another chance at it.
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]
Treasure chests may be found at various points in stages inKirby Tilt 'n' Tumble. They can be opened by bumping into them to obtain items, includingfood andkeys.
When facing off against a boss for the first time in a stage, a special treasure chest will appear which contains various food items and/orStopwatches whose value depends on how much time was left before reaching the boss. Kirby can choose one of several items to eat from a roulette prior to facing the boss.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

Treasure chests can be found scattered all around theMirror World in this title. Some are large, containing bonus items such asVitalities and maps, while most are small, containing minor items such asFood andBatteries. Opening every chest, regardless of value, is required for100% completion of this game.
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]
The central collectable in this title is the Treasure Chest, which Kirby stores in hisCopy Palette once he has touched it. In order to open the chest, Kirby will then need to take it to the end of the stage while it is still in his possession. There are a total of 120 in the game, and many of them contain necessary items such as Star Seals, as well as useful items such asAbility Scrolls. If Kirby is hit by any member of theSqueaks while carrying chests, he will drop one, and will have to pick it up again before they do.
Like inKirby & The Amazing Mirror, treasure chests come in two different sizes. The larger chests have a more distinct blue design with a red gem, and will always cause Kirby to be pursued by the Squeaks when he picks them up, led by eitherSpinni,Storo, orDoc.
Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]
Treasure chests take the form of patches in this title. Kirby needs to use hisYarn Whip to pull them off and reveal the item behind, which could be anything frombeads to pieces offurniture forhis apartment room.
There is also a piece of furniture that resembles a treasure chest.
Kirby Mass Attack[edit]
Treasure chests can be found at various points in some stages. To open them, the Kirbys will need to find aKey and take it to the chest. They typically containMedals. There is also a special variety of treasure chest that can be opened using theSkull Key which appears once the Kirbys have defeated theSkully ambush.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe,Kirby: Planet Robobot,Kirby Star Allies, andKirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]

Treasure chests appear as common objects in these games, sharing the same attributes and basic look in each one. They can be found either out in the open or hidden behind objects such ascontainers, grass tufts, and breakable walls. Much like inKirby Super Star, they are affected by gravity, and will fall if left unsupported. Treasure chests can contain any item, including objects such asKeys andBatteries, or important collectables such asSun Stones andCode Cubes, or may contain nothing at all.
Unlike previous games, opening every chest is not required for 100% completion, with only the important items inside being a consideration.
InKirby Star Allies,Daroach is able to summon a special blue treasure chest with hisSmack-in-the-Box attack. This chest has same design as the one inKirby: Squeak Squad, and a toy ofDark Nebula will pop out after a few moments, referencing the events of that game.
InKirby and the Forgotten Land, treasure chests can also take the form of presents delivered toKirby's House inWaddle Dee Town, upon entering the correctPresent Code. These can hold multiple items.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]
Treasure Chests appear as collectibles scattered across regular stages inKirby and the Rainbow Curse. Each non-boss stage has five treasure chests to collect (with the exceptions ofDeploy the Kirby Tank! andKirby + Kirby, which both only have four). These may either be out in the open, hidden behindgates and side-chambers, or split into pieces, which must be reassembled within a short time limit. Some treasure chests can move on their own, which need to be collided with to collect. At the end of the stage, all collected chests are opened to reveal their contents, which containFigurines orMusic Tracks.
There are a total of 103 treasures to collect in the main stages of Story Mode. In addition to the items they contain, collecting these chests is also a requirement to unlock certainChallenge Mode stages. Treasure chests are also the primary collectible in Challenge Mode stages, but these chests don't contain anything inside them and are not required to unlock further Challenge Mode stages.
For a list of treasures and where they're collected, seehere.
Other appearances[edit]
- InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, asticker of a Treasure Chest can be collected. Equipping it grants +16 totrophy drops for any fighter (increasing the likelihood of trophies appearing).
