"Time for a Challenge!" is the theme of theChallenge Stages fromKirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake,Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, as well as someNew Challenge Stages fromKirby's Dream Collection Special Edition. It was composed byJun Ishikawa.^[1]

Composition[edit]

"Time for a Challenge!" is a moderately intense percussion-heavy song with a simple melody primarily played by wind instruments. It is set in the key of C minor and at 89 beats per minute. Its melody consists of various ascending and descending sequences of notes, although the melody in general is primarily descending. During the first half of the song, each bar ends with a quick array of notes from a banjo to keep up its rhythm.

A short intro introduces the percussion, directly followed by the start of the main melody, that sets a simple sequences of notes that go up and down until they resolve on a lower note; this resolution is repeated by a bell. The melody is repeated by a flute, but it instead resolves on a higher note, and this resolution is yet again repeated by the same bell as before. A new musical idea is presented, based on the two previous resolutions in order (first resolving on a lower note, then resolving on a higher note), directly followed by an inversion of it: the melody ascends, then descends. Next,the airy "ARR1" synth repeats the first half of the original melody, but introduces a completely new second half that resolves on a lower note. A brass instrument repeats that first half, and it and the synth unite to end the main melody of the song, on a higher note. Before looping, however, there is a section with a focus on the drums and the banjo, while a quiet instrument plays an ascending sequences of notes similar to the main melody for two bars, then on a higher pitch for the following two bars. Finally, the song loops.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

"Time for a Challenge!" plays in all Challenge Stages fromKirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake, except for theItem Challenge that instead features a remix of theGreen Greens theme. A faster version of the theme, named "Rush to the Goal!" plays in the last 30 seconds of all Challenge Stages, including the Item Challenge.

Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]

Both "Time for a Challenge!" and "Rush to the Goal!" reprise their roles in the New Challenge Stages mode ofKirby's Dream Collection Special Edition for the regularCopy Ability Challenge Stages. They do not play in the Magolor Races and Combat Chambers, and in theNormal Challenge only "Rush to the Goal!" plays in the last 30 seconds.
