| “ | Oh, pardon me! That was our company's wonderful theme song, "The Noble Haltmann." Sometimes I just find myself singing it out loud. It's so catchy! | ” | — Susie, prior to theMecha Knight battle |
"The Noble Haltmann" is a song fromKirby: Planet Robobot. It is the anthem of theHaltmann Works Company. The melody serves as the basis for many songs in the game's soundtrack, and even has lyrics, which are performed (at least in part) several times throughout the game. The song was composed byHirokazu Ando.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

The song in itself is named and performed in-game multiple times. Each time the anthem is performed in-story, it is done so by secretarySusie. She sings parts of the anthem before the fights withMecha Knight andDedede Clone in the "A Complete Remodel" and "Unreal King" cutscenes, and part of the lyrics are also revealed in the pause screen during the battle withPresident Haltmann.
After the player achieves100% completion onPlanet Robobot, an "Exclusive Performance Video" is unlocked in theTheater, wherein Susie performs the entire song to Haltmann in the executive office of theAccess Ark. The audio of this performance can be found as Track 161 in theJukebox.
This song is also the basis of many of the game's tracks, a vast majority of which were composed byHirokazu Ando. Among the tracks are separate motifs derived from "The Noble Haltmann"; these are:
- "Bright Spinning Planet" — The game'stitle screen theme, track 001. It features two variants of "The Noble Haltmann": one from "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" (detailed below) and one unique variant that begins on an offbeat.
- "Venturing into the Mechanized World" — The stage theme heard inPatched Plains's first, second, and fourth stages, track 006. A major variant of "The Noble Haltmann" with a descending scale in the melody's second half.
- "Flight of Azure" — The theme heard during theRobobot Armor'sJet Mode phases, track 034. A rhythmically loose major variant of "The Noble Haltmann".
- "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" — The stage theme heard in theAccess Ark's stages, track 081. This variant drags out the fourth note of the melody and repeats the initial phrase thrice.
- "Mother's Intuition" — The game'sPause theme and track 057, a derivative of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" set in major and lacking the repetition of the phrase.
Each of the game's first fivelevel hub themes is based on a specific variant of "The Noble Haltmann", out of which"Patched Plains" (track 005) is based on the verse of "The Noble Haltmann", and"Gigabyte Grounds" (track 032), notably composed byJun Ishikawa) is based on the chorus.
Other direct derivatives of "The Noble Haltmann" include:
- "First Contact" — The opening cutscene theme and track 002, features "The Noble Haltmann" during the takeover scene, as well as merged with "Green Greens" near the end of the track.
- "Magical Planet Popstar" — TheWorld Map theme and track 004, a loose major arrangement with elements of "Kirby's Triumphant Return".
- "Industrial Laboratory" — the theme forOverload Ocean - Stage 3 and track 023, an arrangement of "Float Islands" with an ostinato based on "The Noble Haltmann".
- "Haltmann Works Co. Theme Song" — Theme for the cutscenes "Susie, Executive Assistant", "Duel in the President's Office" and "My Name Is Haltmann", track 028. A D minor arrangement of the theme.
- "VS. The Wicked Company" — The regularboss theme heard throughout the game and track 029, a faithful arrangement of the theme.
- "Caught Me Singing" — Theme for the cutscenes "A Complete Remodel" and "Unreal King", track 050. A further arrangement of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" with more pronounced elements of "VS. Star Dream".
- "Crazy Rolling in Money" —President Haltmann's boss battle theme and track 086, includes a distorted version of "The Noble Haltmann" in the intro and at the loop point. Notably composed by Jun Ishikawa.
- "VS. Star Dream" —Star Dream's first phase boss battle theme and track 091, features "The Noble Haltmann" near the end alongside "Green Greens".
- "Vagrant Counting Song of Retrospection" — Star Dream's third phase boss battle theme amd track 095, a more elaborate arrangement of "Bright Spinning Planet" which incorporates both its version of "The Noble Haltmann" and a direct quotation at the loop point.
- "Pink Ball Revolution" — Theme forAccess Ark - Stage 5 and the Final Screw Mode segment of the Star Dream battle, track 096. An arrangement of "Haltmann Works Co. HQ" with additional elements of "The Noble Haltmann" and "Bright Spinning Planet" in the intro and ending.
- "Planet Heart" — The theme during the game's final cutscene "Restored to Life", track 098. Includes "The Noble Haltmann" in the middle of the track, transitioning to "Boarding the Halberd" and "Kirby's Triumphant Return".

Development[edit]
The song's composition had various versions until it was completed. The first prototype is somewhat jazzy with a swung rhythm, and features chiptune and FM synthesis instruments. After hearing this prototype,Shinya Kumazaki asked the composer, Hirokazu Ando, to "give it the weight of a wicked giant corporate company". Ando then made the second prototype, which has a slow and steady rhythm, and sounds more like a military march with synthetic instruments. Kumazaki felt it was a bit too heavy, and asked him to make it sound "more like an unknown invader". With the collected feedback, the third prototype was made, which combines aspects of the previous two and sounds like an alien corporate anthem. This became the basis for the final version.[1] This third prototype additionally bears an uncanny resemblence to "Haltmann Works Co. Theme Song" and "Caught Me Singing", which was likely intentional.
Trivia[edit]
- The lyrics strongly suggest that the Haltmann Works Company is a form ofcorporatocracy, as President Haltmann is seen as a ruler, in addition to the company's head.
- In turn, the Japanese and Korean lyrics suggest an even greater fanaticism within the company, comparing Haltmann to a divine figure who deserves to be worshiped. This hymn-like quality is also in the English version, though not as obvious.
- The third Japanese verse shifts somewhat in tone by considering Haltmann's vulnerabilities, emphasizing Haltmann's dependence onStar Dream, as well as the loss of his memories (as mentioned in Pres. Haltmann 2.0's Japanese and Korean flavor text).
- The Japanese, German, Korean and European Spanish versions display the first two lines of the first stanza in the "A Complete Remodel" and "Unreal King" cutscenes. The American English, British English and Italian versions instead present out-of-order lyrics of the first stanza in the former cutscene, and the first line of the second stanza in the latter cutscene, whereas both Canadian and European French versions present the first line of the first stanza in the former cutscene and the first line of the second stanza in the latter cutscene. The Latin American Spanish version presents the first line of the first stanza in the former cutscene and a unique line that appears nowhere else in the game in the latter cutscene.
