"The Legend of the Last World"^[2] is a medley fromKirby Star Allies that mainly plays in the first four dimension stages of the post-game,Heroes in Another Dimension.

Composition[edit]

"The Legend of the Last World" is a medley consisting of themes that play in latterstages of finallevels of past games, one after another. In particular, the themes featured are specifically from the three mainline titles released beforeKirby Star Allies (Kirby's Return to Dream Land,Kirby: Triple Deluxe andKirby: Planet Robobot), and the first mainline Kirby game to feature a theme akin to that (Kirby's Adventure). It features mostly orchestral-like instruments, but is not limited to them.

The melody starts with a short dominant intro consisting of a low and powerful piano bass note and flute slide to tonic, which leads to a faithful arrangement of "Limitless Power", but instead of the original theme's C minor and B-flat minor keys, it uses A minor and G minor in their place respectively. The time signature of 3/4, however, is maintained. This arrangement of the theme features it in full, and as soon as it finishes, it transitions to "Beautiful Prison"; however, it does not start from its beginning, but rather from the final section based on "Reflected Laughter". This section of "Beautiful Prison" is completely in 6/4, which allows for a smooth transition from "Limitless Power"'s 3/4 time signature. "Beautiful Prison" plays as if in a loop, and its last section is immediately followed by the beginning of the theme, retaining its various odd time signatures. However, the theme does not ultimately play in full: it fades out as soon as soon its first third plays, omitting the repeat of the melody present in the original. As it fades out, the track slows down and introduces an eerie melody in 4/4, based on the latter bars of "L86"; with this theme introduced, the medley properly begins from the start of the theme. Similarly to "Beautiful Prison", the theme mostly plays in full, now with a matching acoustic instrumentation featuring lead bassoon and clarinet, reverberated xylophone, and strings. It cuts out as soon as it hits its climax, interrupted by a transition segment that starts in 4/4 based on "L86"'s chords but ends in 6/8 with harp glissandi in preparation for the next theme. Afterwards, an arrangement of "Rainbow Resort" plays in full, in its original 6/8 time signature. Nearing its end, the now brass melody of "Rainbow Resort" is rhythmically and harmonically modified. It gains a broken chord counterpoint which eventually takes over for a transition back to the second intro element played by a violin, sliding into the arrangement of "Limitless Power" as the track loops.

Trivia[edit]

• Curiously, despite the title using the term "world", likely to refer to the medley's theming of songs from latter stages of last levels, that term is rarely used inKirby games: usually games are divided in "levels", and said levels are divided in "stages".
