The Arena

| ||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||
- This article is about the Sub-Game that has appeared in many games since Kirby Super Star. For the music of the same name, seeThe Arena (theme). For rooms found inKirby's Adventure andKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, seeArena (Kirby's Adventure).
The Arena is aSub-Game debuting inKirby Super Star, where the requirement is to the defeat the Story Mode bosses and mid-bosses encountered in the title it appears in, with a single life, with limited health benefits. It is similar toBoss Endurance modes, but is generally given more importance, and is always required for100% completion of the game.
In later titles, completing this mode would unlockThe True Arena, which is a similar concept, but instead pits Kirby against all theExtra Mode bosses.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

InKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra, the objective of the Arena is to defeat all the bosses fromSpring Breeze,Dyna Blade,The Great Cave Offensive,Revenge of Meta Knight, andMilky Way Wishes. At the beginning of the mode, Kirby starts in a special room which containsCopy Essences for every regularCopy Ability in the game, as well as aWarp Star to take him to the first battle. In between battles Kirby will be taken to a rest area that contains five Maxim Tomatoes for Kirby to replenish his health should it be depleted, two randomly-determined Copy Essences for Kirby to change his ability and a Warp Star to take him to the next battle.
When Kirby eats a Maxim Tomato in the originalKirby Super Star, it will simply be gone. InKirby Super Star Ultra, the Maxim Tomato will be replaced with a regular tomato (which does not heal as much health) the next time Kirby visits the rest area.
Beating The Arena once is necessary to unlock theSound Test in the original andThe True Arena inKirby Super Star Ultra.

This mode isn't actually called "The Arena" in the Japanese and Korean versions of the game - instead, it is namedかちぬきボスバトル (Boss Battle Tournament) and보스와 정면승부 (Head-to-Head Boss Battles), respectively. "Boss Battle Tournament" is the Japanese name forBoss Endurance inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land,Kirby & The Amazing Mirror, andKirby: Squeak Squad. "Head-to-Head Boss Battles", likewise, is used to refer to Boss Endurance in the Korean version ofKirby: Squeak Squad. By extension, the same changes apply toThe True Arena.

Trivia[edit]
- In the Japanese and Korean versions of the series, the descriptions for The Arena consistently give Kirby the alias ofThe Pink Demon (ピンクの悪魔 / 핑크색 악마). In English, this has been variously translated as "the Pink Wonder", "the pink terror", "the pink hero", and "the mighty pink puffball".Kirby: Planet Robobot is the first game where the title is translated directly from the original phrase and has been consistently translated as such in the games that follow, with the exception ofKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.
- This is also seen in theSuper Smash Bros. series as Kirby's title on theBoxing Ring stage. InSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U, it is translated as "The Pink Puffball" in North American English and "Gritty in Pink" in British English, but it is translated as "The Pink Demon" in both English versions ofSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
- Commentator Waddle Dee also refers to Kirby with the moniker "The Pink Demon" in theColosseum ofKirby and the Forgotten Land.
- It has been a tradition in each game that features The Arena sinceKirby Super Star Ultra for the Maxim Tomatoes to be replaced with regularTomatoes after being collected, and forThe True Arena (or equivalent difficulty) to feature regular Tomatoes exclusively. In reference to this, Tomatoes only appear in theColosseum inKirby and the Forgotten Land — they don't appear in the regular stages.
- InKirby Super Star, King Dedede can be seen sitting on a throne in the background of The Arena.
- InKirby's Return to Dream Land andKirby: Triple Deluxe, the timer disappears during the final boss fight in The Arena and The True Arena. This also applies toThe Ultimate Choice starting with the Infernal Crisis difficulty inKirby Star Allies and the Colosseum inKirby and the Forgotten Land.
