This article is about the Sub-Game fromKirby: Planet Robobot. For the series of games, seeTeam Kirby Clash (series).

Team Kirby Clash is aSub-Game that appears inKirby: Planet Robobot. In this game, up to four Kirbys take on fantasy-themedroles and are tasked with defeating one of sixbosses from earlierKirby series games inquests. To complete the quests, they must defeat the boss without being KO'd in turn or running out of time. As the Kirbys fight, they gain experience, which will allow them to level up after the quest concludes, improving their survivability and damage output. The experience gained is also used as the final score on each quest, with one of fourmedals being awarded, ranging from bronze to platinum.

Team Kirby Clash can be played either solo with CPU allies, or via Local Wireless with friends. The game can also be played in multiplayer via Download Play without other users needingKirby: Planet Robobot to play.

Team Kirby Clash was the base for the free-to-start expanded spin-off title,Team Kirby Clash Deluxe and its sequel,Super Kirby Clash.

Roles[edit]

There are four roles to choose from. Kirbys can take on multiples of the same role if they wish:

RoleImageDescription
Sword HeroA front-line role based onSword. Can protect his friends with the Hero Shield.
Hammer LordA powerhouse role based onHammer. Very slow on his feet, but can dish out huge damage.
Doctor HealmoreA supporting role based onDoctor. Has the power to heal his allies and himself.
Beam MageA supporting role based onBeam. Has the power to stop time if he hits the boss enough with repeated Time Beam attacks.

All four roles are capable of using a Revival Spell on their fallen teammates given enough time to do so.

Quests and bosses[edit]

There are six quests in this sub-game, each featuring a different boss. They are revealed in sequence, and can be challenged as many times as necessary to build up experience. Each boss has notably higher health and stronger attacks than their previous appearances in the series.

Gameplay[edit]

Each quest takes place in a flat arena, with no other platforms or pitfalls to consider. Upon starting out, there are only two Kirbys in the party, but more join in after successive quests until there are four.

Bosses, where necessary, are made larger and given much greaterhealth. The first two,Gigant Edge andMr. Frosty, are also given some new attacks. All bosses fight in two phases, and cannot be damaged in any capacity while transitioning between the two, much like inKirby's Return to Dream Land.

The party of Kirbys has a set amount of time, depending on the boss being fought, to complete the quest. If time runs out, they lose, and will have to try again. They will also lose if they are all defeated by the boss' attacks. Like in theKirby Fighters games, the Kirbys have a limited ability to hover off the ground, and theirguard can only last so long before it breaks, leaving them dazed. Occasionally, during the quest, items will appear to help the party. These can be food items that the Kirbys can share between themselves to recover stamina, or they can be Power Tablets. There are up to four of these pieces and each Kirby needs to collect one. After that, they can unleash the devastatingTeam Meteor attack that deals huge damage and stuns the boss for an extended period of time.

After the quest, experience is tallied, and if it passes the next threshold, the Kirbys level up, gaining bonuses to their Stamina, Attack, Recovery and Team Meteor damage. The maximum level is 10, and the stats cap at different amounts based on the role chosen. Being at maximum level is not required to clear the final quest, but it certainly helps.

Level-up progression chart[edit]

The following is a chart detailing the amount of experience points needed to level up in Team Kirby Clash. Note that each role gains the exact same experience, and therefore will level up, at the same time.

Trivia[edit]

  • The Japanese and Korean titles ("Kirby Hunters") are similar to theMonster Hunter series.
  • Occasionally, when leveling up, a Kirby may also gain a few points in odd stats like 'Rosiness' or 'Spirit'. The game clarifies that these stats do not actually matter, and that it is largely a joke. This harkens back to the fight withComputer Virus inKirby Super Star (the "Not that it matters." quote in particular originated fromKirby Super Star Ultra).
  • According to an early sketch revealed by HAL Laboratory, proposed additional roles included a Huntsman, presumably based onArcher, and a pirate-themed Bandit, who may have been based onCutter orNinja.
  • The acquired experience when reaching level 10 equals39860 points, which is a pun on numbers that can be read as "Thank youHAL" (39 =sankyu, thank you and 86 =haru).
