Plot synopsis[edit]

Mr. Chip begins teaching at Dedede Academy.

The episode begins with a brief recap ofeNeMeE Elementary andThe School Scam byKing Dedede toEscargoon atCastle Dedede. After a few snarky remarks from his right hand snail, King Dedede resolves to rebuild theDedede Academy and this time enroll as a student so he can learn how to outsmart Kirby. Meanwhile, out in the countryside, a sudden rain storm interrupts another one ofTiff's impromptu lessons. As the group huddles under a tree, a stranger passes by who comments on their efforts. After pointing out that the rain is only a sun-shower, the stranger introduces himself asMr. Chip; a teacher who is looking to work inDream Land. Tiff tells him there is no school for him to go to, but shortly after the rain clears up, the bell from theDedede Academy rings and gets the kids' attention. The group then walks over the hill and sees the school fully rebuilt, and everyone prepares to go back to school again. King Dedede and Escargoon address the assembled townsfolk, and tell them that instead of acting as Principal and Vice Principal, they are appointing those roles toProfessor Curio andMayor Len Blustergas respectively. Tiff then suggests that the newly-arrived Mr. Chip act as the teacher and - surprising everyone - King Dedede and Escargoon agree to learn under Mr. Chip as students. After some banter,Chef Kawasaki enrolls as a student as well.

Shortly thereafter, Mr. Chip's class begins. During the roll call, King Dedede and Escargoon immediately start bullying Kirby and trying to get him in trouble, but Mr. Chip ignores this. Later on, as Dedede continues being a nuisance, Mr. Chip asks him to come up to the board and write his initials. Dedede agrees to this, but ends up messing it up, drawing an "O" instead of a "D" like Mr. Chip showed him. Next, Mr. Chip introduces some basic arithmetic problems, and Dedede and Escargoon try to bully Kirby again, but this time, Tiff sees what Escargoon is doing and tackles him. Mr. Chip breaks up the fight and assures Tiff that he saw what Escargoon was doing, prompting Dedede and Escargoon to try and taunt her instead. From there, Mr. Chip tries to host a science demonstration involving light, but King Dedede and Escargoon continue being disruptive. King Dedede then tosses his flashlight at Mr. Chip which hits him right in the face, which prompts a violent response from Tiff and Tuff.

King Dedede points out to the class that Mr. Chip was sent by Night Mare Enterprises.

Later on, while Mr. Chip is being patched up atDoctor Yabui's clinic, he is examining an x-ray scan of King Dedede's head, and becomes more determined to help the mentally-deficient King. Back in the classroom, Chef Kawasaki serves lunch, and King Dedede and Escargoon promptly start a food fight, which then leads to throwing other objects, too. As Mr. Chip walks in on this, he gets a face full of curry as Kirby continues eating in peace. After a week of teaching, Mr. Chip decides to hand out a test for his students over King Dedede and Escargoon's objections. The other students, including Escargoon, note how easy the test is, but King Dedede appears to be struggling with it regardless. Dedede tries to cheat by looking at Escargoon's paper, but his faithful snail rats him out instead of helping him. Once everyone is done, Mr. Chip grades the tests and gives everyone 100% credit. A gust of wind then catches the stack of tests and blows it back to the students, where they see that Dedede actually got every problem wrong, and Kirby did not appear to know what he was doing at all. Frustrated over this perceived humiliation, King Dedede and Escargoon leave class early and drive away in theRoyal Racecar. Tiff asks Mr. Chip why he does not punish Dedede more harshly, and he replies by telling her that Dedede needs encouragement if he is going to learn.

Rekketsu is sliced in half by a Sword Beam attack.

After school, Tiff and Mr. Chip continue conversing out in the hills. Mr. Chip explains that he used to work in a factory in his hometown, not too far away from Dream Land, but that he decided to follow his dreams and become a schoolteacher instead. Tiff insists that he is the "perfect" teacher and she wants to be just like him, and as she leaves, Mr. Chip shows some apprehension at this notion. That night in the Castle Dedede courtyard,Meta Knight appears and tells Tiff that she should be wary of Mr. Chip, giving her a cryptic hint that not everything is as it seems with him. Tiff refuses to believe that anything could be wrong, and after Meta Knight leaves, she starts to become infatuated with the idea of Mr. Chip. The next morning, Escargoon tries to get King Dedede up for school, but Dedede insists he is not going. Instead, he complains to Night Mare Enterprises that the school is not working as intended. TheN.M.E. Sales Guy reveals to them that Mr. Chip was sent by them and was supposed to attack Kirby, but did not fulfill his end of the bargain, so he promises Dedede that he will send a new teacher to replace him.

Shortly after Mr. Chip's class begins, King Dedede and Escargoon arrive slightly late and reveal to the kids that Mr. Chip is in fact amonster sent by Night Mare Enterprises. Tiff refuses to believe this, but Mr. Chip confirms that he was indeed sent by N.M.E. to attack the students, but that he simply could not bring himself to do it. King Dedede then tells Mr. Chip that he has been replaced by a new teacher, tossing an orb to the ground which bursts in a cloud of smoke, then reveals the monsterRekketsu. Rekketsu then proceeds to attack Kirby with a bokken. Mr. Chip tries to intervene, but Rekketsu bats him back. After Kirby gets launched through a window, Rekketsu follows but trips on his way out, giving Kirby an opportunity toinhale his bokken and gain theSwordCopy Ability. Rekketsu recovers and pulls out a laser sword, then proceeds to duel with Kirby again. After a series of quick strikes and moves, Kirby manages to gain the upper hand on Rekketsu and cleaves him in two with a Sword Beam attack, destroying him in an explosion which takes the Academy with it. King Dedede and Escargoon make a run for it, but are trapped when the bell flung from the school lands on them. A short time later, Mr. Chip bids the Dream Landers farewell, insisting that he must move on. The episode ends as everyone waves him good-bye.

Dialogue differences between versions[edit]

  • In the Japanese version, King Dedede states that he intends to become a student to serve as a good example for the commoners, rather than trying to actually learn anything.
  • In the Japanese version, Mr. Chip is prone to referring to himself often as unemployed or a hobo.
  • In the Japanese version, when Chef Kawasaki volunteers to becomes a student, Mr. Chip tests him by asking for the answer to "3 + 3". Kawasaki answers with "33", prompting Tiff to ask how Kawasaki has been making change if he cannot do math. Kawasaki answers by saying he just makes his change up.
  • In the Japanese version, the students sing the Dedede Academy anthem in full, as in the previous school-related episodes. In the English version, only the sound of the organ playing the anthem is heard.
  • In the Japanese version, during the lesson about light, King Dedede asks why light does not hurt when it hits him. When Mr. Chip attempts to answer and King Dedede throws his flashlight at Mr. Chip, Dedede proclaims that light does indeed hurt when it hits.
  • In the Japanese version, Mr. Chip speculates that King Dedede may have experienced head trauma as a kid, resulting in him having difficulty concentrating. In the English dub, his head is hollow.
  • In the Japanese version, Mr. Chip explains that his colleagues went to become university professors, but he wanted to focus specifically on children.
  • In the Japanese version, Meta Knight does not appear to doubt Mr. Chip's sincerity, but instead prays for his success.
  • In the Japanese version, Kirby shouts "Sword Beam" when using that attack.
  • In the Japanese version, Mr. Chip explains that he has to leave because he broke his contract with Night Mare Enterprises.
  • In the Japanese version, Tiff asks Chip why didn't he tell her his secret after Rekketsu attacked him. In the English dub, Tiff tells him to escape while he still can.
