- This article is about Waddle Doos who swing on ropes. For Waddle Doos in a general context, seeWaddle Doo.
Swinging Waddle Doo[Japanese title] is an uncommonenemy that first appeared inKirby Super Star. Much likeSwinging Waddle Dee, Swinging Waddle Doo swings back and forth on a rope, which can either be moving parallel or perpendicular toKirby's plane of action.
Swinging Waddle Doo behaves exactly like Swinging Waddle Dee while it is swinging, as it cannot fire its beam while on the rope. Cutting it down using a suitable ability will cause it to fall and return to being a standard Waddle Doo, whereupon it will start using its beam again. Otherwise, Swinging Waddle Doo can be defeated by attacking it directly, or swallowing it to obtain theBeam ability.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby Super Star[edit]

Swinging Waddle Doo makes its first appearance inKirby Super Star. It is considerably rarer than a regular Waddle Doo. If it survives being hit by something, it will detach from the rope and behave like a regular Waddle Doo.
There appears to be only two Swinging Waddle Doos in the game, both located in theSub-Tree area ofThe Great Cave Offensive. Notably,Swinging Waddle Dee is not in this game, making its first debut inRevenge of the King inKirby Super Star Ultra.
Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
Swinging Waddle Doo appears again inKirby Super Star Ultra. In addition to the two Waddle Doos found inSub-Tree, they can also be found in theIllusion Islands andThe Revenge stages inRevenge of the King.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Swinging Waddle Doo makes its first 3D appearance inKirby's Return to Dream Land, and also appears inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. It now swings from a rope made of twine rather than the old ball-composed chain. The rope can be cut using an appropriate Copy Ability, causing Swinging Waddle Doo to fall to the ground and become a normal Waddle Doo.
There is only one Swinging Waddle Doo in the whole game, appearing exclusively inOnion Ocean - Stage 1.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe &Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
Swinging Waddle Doo appears again inKirby: Triple Deluxe andKirby: Planet Robobot, largely unchanged from its appearance inKirby's Return to Dream Land, though now able to swing backward and forward relative to the stage walkways.
InKirby: Triple Deluxe, Swinging Waddle Doo only appears inFine Fields - Stage 6 EX andWild World - Stage 3.
InKirby: Planet Robobot, Swinging Waddle Doo is not mechanized and only appears inResolution Road - Stage 4.
