This article is about Waddle Dees who swing on ropes. For Waddle Dees in a general context, seeWaddle Dee.

Swinging Waddle Dee[Japanese title] is anenemy that first appeared inKirby Super Star Ultra. This enemy is aWaddle Dee who is swinging from a rope in a back and forth motion. InKirby Super Star Ultra andKirby's Return to Dream Land, this motion is typically parallel toKirby's plane of operation, but inKirby: Triple Deluxe andKirby: Planet Robobot, Swinging Waddle Dees can swing in perpendicular instead, coming in and out of the background.

Swinging Waddle Dee's rope can be cut using anyCopy Ability that can cut ropes in other contexts, like aString Platform. This will cause the swinging Waddle Dee to fall to the floor, then start walking as normal. Even without such an ability, however, Swinging Waddle Dee can still be defeated by attacking the Waddle Dee directly, and can still be inhaled.Waddle Doo can also be seen swinging from a rope occasionally.

Swinging Waddle Dee was originally created forKirby Super Star, but goes unused in that game, even though Swinging Waddle Doo made its debut there.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Swinging Waddle Dee makes its first appearance inRevenge of the King, appearing inIllusion Islands andThe Revenge. Unused sprites for Swinging Waddle Dee exist in the data ofKirby Super Star, but it does not appear in the final game; however,Swinging Waddle Doo appears inThe Great Cave Offensive.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Screenshot of a Swinging Waddle Dee living up to its name inKirby's Return to Dream Land.

Swinging Waddle Dee debuted in 3D inKirby's Return to Dream Land, where it now swings from a rope made of twine rather than the old ball-composed chain. The rope can be cut using the appropriate Copy Ability, causing Swinging Waddle Dee to fall to the ground and become a normal Waddle Dee.

Swinging Waddle Dees appear in only two stages:Onion Ocean - Stage 1 andWhite Wafers - Stage 1.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Swinging Waddle Dee returns inKirby: Triple Deluxe, now with the ability to swing backward and forward relative to the stage walkways. It only appears in two stages:Fine Fields - Stage 1 andFine Fields - Stage 6 EX.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

Swinging Waddle Dee is a rare enemy inKirby: Planet Robobot, only appearing inResolution Road - Stage 4 andRhythm Route - Stage 5. It wears a hard hat, but otherwise behaves identically to how it did inKirby: Triple Deluxe.
