Swept Out to Sea is the first stage of the levelIndigo Ocean inKirby and the Rainbow Curse. In this stage, water is introduced as a course element, and the player is given the opportunity to learn how Kirby controls while underwater in a relatively easy environment. Later on, these water navigation skills are put to the test in stronger water currents, dodgingGordos and collectingPoint Stars.

Completing the stage unlocksThe Haunted Ship.

Overview[edit]

The first area sets Kirby at the edge of a small pool out in a tropical area. Here, he can splash around a bit in the water before moving on to a pipe to the right which will carry him down to the next area.

The next zone features a cyclical underwater tunnel with a counterclockwise current that will carry Kirby along. A pipe can be accessed in the upper-right.

From there, Kirby is dumped into a wide underwater room with no hazards. The game gives the player a hint here as to how to use the rainbow rope to guide Kirby in underwater environments, leading him toward another pipe.

The pipe drops Kirby off in the first set of underwater channels with hazards, asGordo andBlippers can now be found along the walls and in the corridors. Kirby will need to start by working his way up the initial tunnel, grabbingPoint Stars along the way. The first treasure chest can be seen at the top of this area before proceeding to the right past a stronger current.

The next water tunnel features more obstacles to avoid and stars to collect. The second treasure chest can be found in this area.

The third water tunnel starts with a low area where Kirby can collect aMaxim Tomato and some stars. The door to the challenge room can be found just above on the right, and the path continues upward past more Gordos and stars. The fourth treasure chest is located along this ascent.

From here, the music changes, and Kirby is sent careening through a snaking underwater channel with a strong water current. Kirby will need to be quick to maneuver through here and collect as many of the stars along the way as possible, as it is not exactly possible to fight the current without using Star Dashes. At the end, Kirby is dumped into a room where he can collect even more stars before proceeding to the next region.

This next area starts Kirby off by sending him flying upward on a gush of water to reach the surface and dry land once more. This last area contains the final treasure chest, and theroulette wheel shortly afterward to finish the stage.
