The villain of Treat Land has more than a few mean tricks up his sleeve!
— Patch Plaza description

Squashini is aboss inKirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn, and the holder of theMagic Yarn inTreat Land. His name is possibly a play on "Harry Houdini", a famous American magician, and "squash".

Physical appearance[edit]

Squashini is a magician with a pumpkin head. He wears a black suit, a red bow tie, and a top hat with a pink flower. He also wields a magician's wand.

Patch animation[edit]

Once the patch is tossed, an air pump appears which inflates a pumpkin on ground level, which then rises high into the air, attaching to a strange circular structure. From there, the door to this fight opens.

Squashini serves as the boss ofTreat Land, and is unlocked after using theAir Pump Patch obtained fromMelody Town. Completing this stage is required to gain access toWater Land, and obtaining a high bead score is necessary to obtain theCookie Patch and accessCocoa Station.

Boss battle[edit]

Squashini has four tricks up his sleeve, though only three will be used in the fight's beginning. These are determined by a slot machine, which is purely aesthetic, as he will always perform the tricks in the same order.

  • The first trick is the hat trick. Squashini will disappear into his hat, and then land with two identical hats, with no way of telling which one he is inside. Squashini then shuffles the three hats like ashell game, and Kirby must pick one by opening it with his yarn whip. If Kirby picks the wrong hat, it will contain aRolling Clod or a bunch ofFlamers, who go after him. The Waddle Dees in the audience look at the hat Squashini is hiding in during the shuffle, which can help Kirby figure out where the boss is. If Kirby picks the right hat, Squashini will be left vulnerable.
  • The second trick is the card trick. Squashini will throw cards at the ground, each landing perfectly, almost completely covering the floor. Next, Squashini will summon three cards in a straight line to go after Kirby. He will then repeat this trick on the other side. Kirby can use his yarn whip to grab a card and then throw it at Squashini, who will be left vulnerable.
  • The third trick is the tarp trick. Squashini will raise a red tarp up and down, and a bomb will eventually be balanced on it. After some time, multiple bombs will fall, which Kirby can grab and throw at Squashini, making him vulnerable.

When Squashini is vulnerable, he will lose his hat, revealing the weak spot on his head. Kirby needs to attack the weak spot with his yarn whip three times to win.

After Squashini's weak spot is attacked, his following trick will always be the rope trick, which isn't really much of a trick. A curtain closes in front of the screen, and a struggle can be seen behind it. When it reopens, Kirby is seen tied up against a bomb. He must keep struggling to escape and, if he hits the bell on top with his whip, beads will fall out. If he does not get out before the bomb explodes, he will get hurt. If he escapes, nothing happens.

When Squashini is defeated, Kirby and Prince Fluff get the fourth piece ofMagic Yarn, and open the route toWater Land. Additionally, if enough beads are collected, theIce Cream Patch is obtained, opening up theCocoa Station stage. This then opens up theDark Manor stage.

In theDevilish Mode, theMe-Devil appears in this boss battle.

Medal Bead scores[edit]

  • Bronze - 450 points
  • Silver - 900 points
  • Gold - 1350 points
  • Patch - 1800 points

A perfect score in this stage is 4000 points.

Trivia[edit]

  • During the entire fight with Squashini, a crowd ofWaddle Dees are watching the "show".
  • The slot machine contains star bead slots, but these will never be selected in the fight.
