- This article is about automatic teleportation used to keep characters together. For information about the ability to jump while in the air, seeInfinity Jump.
Space Jump refers to the ability/phenomenon of aHelper or othercharacter to automatically be transported toKirby's location via a star or glowing point of light. This happens automatically if the secondary character is left too far behind, or in some games can be intentionally triggered by that character's controlling player pressing the A button (B button inKirby's Return to Dream Land). Additionally it's possible for a Space Jump to occur if a character rides aWarp Star or enters aBoss ormid-boss arena; this also allows Kirby to perform a Space Jump, as it will transport him onto the Warp Star or to the battle, respectively.
This phenomenon occurs in all main-series games that utilizemultiplayer in the main game modes, as well as inKirby Mass Attack, implemented in order to keep the camera—and subsequently the action—centered on Kirby.
InKirby's Dream Land 3,Gooey's Space Jump will cause him to break anyStar Blocks on his path back to Kirby. InKirby's Return to Dream Land onward, if a character holding acarry item performs a Space Jump, they will continue to hold the item while they move to Kirby's location (potentially allowing item-based puzzles to be skipped).
InKirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn,Angie works very similarly to a Space Jump, and could be considered that game's variation of the technique.
InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
The space jump is also utilized inThe Subspace Emissary, functioning exactly the same as it does in theKirby series, though instead of a star, the transporting effect looks like a more generic blue glow, teleporting Player 2 to the location of Player 1, who remains the center of focus.
