Rainbow Run

Rainbow Run is one of the four modes inKirby: Canvas Curse. Within it,Kirby competes formedals by enteringTime Trials andLine Trials. Time trials require Kirby to reach the end of the given room in a limited amount of time, while line trials require Kirby to get to the end of the room by using the least amount ofink possible. It features seven levels and aSpecial Course, which is not found in the storyline and replacesThe World of Drawcia. Stages are selected by spinning the wheel and opting for any of the seven levels. From the hub screen, any hex shaped icon can be tapped to view high scores or open the option for the two trials pertaining to that stage. In each stage of the seven levels, there are two designated rooms from the level in the storyline. The Special Course has its stages focus on theCopy Abilities:Stone,Wheel,Missile, andBalloon. Unlike time and line trials, there is aCourse A and aCourse B for each ability, both of which have a line and a time challenge. The stages in the levels can be played in Rainbow Run once they are unlocked in the storyline, while stages in the Special Course must be unlocked by swapping medals.
Each course of Rainbow Run offers six medals awarded upon completion of the stage requirements. The Time Trials will offer medals for three different time goals. Completing the course in the time of the lowest for a medal award will automatically grant all three medals. The other three medals for the course are unlocked in the Line Trial, which instead of the time goal, rewards based on the amount of ink left. As with Time Trial, all three medals will be awarded if the top condition is met. Most stages have enemies which will empower Kirby with their respective Copy Ability. Although some are helpful to meeting the challenges of the goal, few are detrimental. The courses can be played with any unlocked character. TheWaddle Dee ball, for example, may be considered more advantageous for not having to pick up and discard an unwanted ability, and the high dash speed of theMeta Knight ball is extremely helpful for meeting the time goals in most Time Trials (though its lowerhealth requires the expenditure of more ink for defense in Line Trials).
Time Trial[edit]

Time Trial stages consist of one room from each of the Main Game level's stages. The objective in this mode of Rainbow Run is to race through the course to reach the exit door as quickly as possible. This mode can be selected by tapping the green box labeled asTime Trial in the Rainbow Run hub screen. Previously earned medals (if any) are visible in this hub for ease in finding which stages to play for further medal unlocking. TheBest Scores are also saved, and the game has no set time limit. Depletion of Kirby'shealth will end the game, and nofood or health replenishingitems can be found in the stage.
Line Trial[edit]

As with Time Trial, Line Trial offers rooms from each of the Main Game levels. Most of the stages in the two trials are different rooms from one another. The top screen replaces the clock with a large ink bottle. The rainbow colored ink bottle drains slightly with eachRainbow Line drawn. The objective is to reach the goal and exit the stage using as little ink as possible. To maximize efficiencies of the lines drawn, many of thedevices and Copy Abilities offered in a stage can be manipulated. Especially useful are elevators, cannons, cranes, inclined surfaces, or anything that will send the character ball skywards. Some Copy Abilities, such asBurning (to cross chasms), can be used to satisfy a need for a line. By taking advantage of these strategies, less ink will be used, resulting in a higher score and potentially a medal reward.
