Quick Draw is aSub-Game that appears inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It can be accessed from a few stages after the level's lobby door is unlocked, or at all times from the main menu.
Quick Draw shares a similar gameplay and the same English name withQuick Draw fromKirby's Adventure, but it is styled afterSamurai Kirby fromKirby Super Star, and has the same name in the Japanese version.
Gameplay[edit]
The goal of the game is to press the A Button as quickly as possible after the! flashes on screen. Pressing too soon will cause Kirby to fail to strike, and waiting too long will causeKirby to lose. There are five stages to this game, each one requiring quicker reflexes than the last, and a reward will be given based on how many stages were cleared.
A sign is placed in the foreground to count down how many frames it took the player to react to the draw. This can be helpful to gauge how fast one is required to be in order to clear a stage.
As the game supports up to four players, they can compete against each other to see who has the quickest reflexes.
Foes[edit]
Striking at the same time as the opponent causes a draw, forcing Kirby to rematch the opponent. The foes faced in each stage are as follows (numbers represent the frame at which they will strike):
| Foe | Reward threshold if beaten | Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1000 points | 82 | 63 | 18 | |
| 3000 points | 50 | 41 | 14 | |
| 5000 points | 24 | 17 | 12 | |
| 1-Up | 17 | 13 | 11 | |
| 3-Up | 14 | 11 | 10 |
Trivia[edit]
- Compared toSamurai Kirby, the sight gags were reduced from Kirby having a suitable weapon to counter each opponent to always pulling a fan out of his sheath.
- In the version of Samurai Kirby fromKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the camera angle is changed to resemble that of Quick Draw if three or four players are participating.
- Quick Draw was directly ported into aFlash game on the official Japanese website, and became the first web game of theKirby series. The Flash game and its dimensions were designed to fit into the screen of a pink Game Boy Advance image. The player would use their computer mouse as a substitute for the A button, either by clicking on the Flash screen (with an icon of the A button for the mouse cursor), or by clicking the A button on the Game Boy Advance image itself.[1]Speed Eaters fromKirby & The Amazing Mirror would later receive a similar Flash game port on its own website.
- The most visible change is to Meta Knight's sprites, which have been painted over, leaving Meta Knight a mere featureless silhouette casting a shadow. In addition, his name is rendered entirely in question marks.
