Popon is an enemy inKirby's Dream Land 3. It is a monster which resembles a green blob with two eyes, able to grow into a tall stack of blobs whenKirby approaches. A Popon attacks by separating individual segments from its body and tossing them at Kirby, causing itself to shrink again. These segments can be inhaled and spat back at it. Attacking a Popon that is more than one segment in height only causes it to shrink instead of defeating it immediately. Once only a single segment is left, however, it can be inhaled or destroyed by any attack.

InKirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]
- Main article:The Big Taste Test
Popon makes an appearance as amonster sent byNight Mare Enterprises in theKirby: Right Back at Ya! episodeThe Big Taste Test. Initially, it is disguised as a different character calledChef Shiitake, who was onceChef Kawasaki's instructor. In this disguise, it sends advance notice toKing Dedede that it is coming toDream Land to rate its food. Taking advantage of this, King Dedede sabotages Kawasaki's cookbook by placing a sticker ofKirby overZebon's image, making Kawasaki believe that he must cook Kirby and present him to his mentor.
Ultimately, Kawasaki 'prepares' Kirby in a dish and presents it to the false Shiitake, but could not bring himself to slaughter Kirby for the meal, instead leaving Kirby asleep in the garnish. Just as the fake Shiitake is about to eat Kirby, however, Kawasaki pushes Kirby off the table, resulting in the false Shiitake losing its temper and blowing its disguise. From there, the Popon gives up the act and transforms into its massive true form.
This Popon is characterized in the anime as much more massive and dangerous than its in-game counterpart. When it tosses its bodily globs, they turn into pools of boiling hot goop on the floor, thus making Popon unsuitable for Kirby to inhale directly. Additionally, the Popon cannot be defeated by standard attacks such asMeta Knight's sword slashes, able to regenerate quickly even if sliced clean into pieces. Popon is eventually defeated byCook Kirby, who tosses it on a giant frying pan out into space to be fried by the Sun. Dedede ends up enjoying this 'fried Popon', appointing Kirby as the new court chef (which Kawasaki finds to his dismay because he worked hard), though ultimately nothing comes of this.
