Piggyback, orRide Piggyback, is the act of riding on the back of an ally.Kirby can do this with his friends inKirby's Return to Dream Land,Kirby Star Allies andKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe. While riding piggyback, the character riding cannot perform any action other than dismounting, and will generally not hamper the abilities of the character being ridden (unless, inKirby's Return to Dream Land, they try to squeeze into a tight space, wherein the rider will be forced to jump off). However, if Kirby rides piggyback on aCPU-controlled friend, he can take direct control of that friend, and use all the abilities pertaining to said friend (except forFriend Abilities which require holding up on the Control Stick/+Control Pad).

A character who is riding piggyback can be ridden in turn by another character, stacking up to four friends high. In this case, only the character on the bottom will be able to perform standard moves. If all stacked characters are controlled by human players, however, it is possible to perform aTeam Attack, where all friends attack at once.

To begin riding piggyback, either the rider must go behind the carrier and both players must hold the guard button or one player should hold down while in midair above another character to mount, and to dismount, the rider must either hold up on the Control Stick/+Control Pad or press the Jump button.
