Parallel Dedede

| ||||||||||||||
- This article is about the foul doppelgänger who is not the originalDedede, and should not be confused withShadow Dedede, fromKirby: Triple Deluxe.
| “ | A dark liege was born from the Jamba Heart that King Dedede brought to Hyness! Cast out into another dimension along with the King's own spirit, this foul doppelganger is NOT the original Dedede! Beware his aberrant rage. | ” | — VS Parallel Dedede |
Parallel Dedede, titledOtherworldly Dark Liege, is aparallel boss who first appeared inHeroes in Another Dimension ofKirby Star Allies. His battle takes place in thefourth dimension.
Origin[edit]
The origin of Parallel Dedede is similar to that ofParallel Meta Knight: As the originalKing Dedede andMeta Knight were defeated byKirby in Story Mode, their spirits and theJamba Hearts possessing them went toAnother Dimension and the parallel versions were born. The pause screen descriptions of most localizations incorrectly state that it was born from "the Jamba Heart that King Dedede brought to Hyness", when in truth it was born from "the Jamba Heart that King Dedede absorbed at the beginning of the story, that was collected back by Hyness" as stated in the original Japanese text, as well as the Chinese localization.[1] The Korean version attributes the birth to "the Jamba Heart that took King Dedede into a world of darkness at the beginning of the story", which differs from the original Japanese version but in any case at least avoids the incorrect implication that Dedede brought the Jamba Heart toHyness.[2]
Translation: "The Jamba Heart that King Dedede absorbed at the beginning of the story was collected back by Hyness in Another Dimension. The dark liege appeared in the dimension is not the same Dedede anymore! As he is the king of Another Dimension, he was rampaging like a beast!" | ” | — VS Parallel Dedede (Japanese) |
Parallel Woods,Parallel Twin Kracko/Parallel Big Kracko, Parallel Meta Knight and Parallel Dedede are the "Otherworldly Four Heavenly Kings" as described in the Japanese version.
Physical appearance[edit]
Parallel Dedede has a darker look thanKing Dedede, with gray skin, dark purple extremities and a black-lined robe. When he loses his hammer and enters the second phase, he can also transform into the buff form like the possessed Dedede inClash at Castle Dedede.
Boss battle[edit]
Parallel Dedede appears in the following game modes:
| Mode | Level | HP (Star Bullet = 52 or 78[note 1]) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heroes in Another Dimension | Dimension IV | 1360 | He appears as theboss at the end of Dimension IV. |
| Guest Star The Three Mage-Sisters | Level 1 | 1360 | He replaces theKing Dedede boss battle at the end of Level 1. |
| The Ultimate Choice | Soul Melter EX | 1020 | He appears as the 10th opponent. |
- ↑Increased star bullet damage for Heroes in Another Dimension or Soul Melter EX.
Parallel Dedede fights in a very similar manner to the standardKing Dedede fight, but he has double thehealth of the original Dedede and more potent moves. Nearly all of his leaps and slams will produce shockwaves, and he uses his attacks more frequently and quickly. He even gains a new move: pulling outGordos and hitting them with his hammer to knock them into Kirby and his allies, which is a direct reference to theGordo Throw side special move that the originalKing Dedede has fromSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U onwards.
When Parallel Dedede beefs up in his second phase, he will only pound the floor away to change the arena once, leading to a room with no pillars in it. Instead, Parallel Dedede will bound around the open rooms and climb up the walls, similarly to howGoriath fights. The food tossed by Parallel Dedede can be turned into recoveryfood bySplash-element attacks.
The following lists all of Parallel Dedede's attacks during his boss battle. Note that all names are conjectural, though mostly based upon King Dedede's corresponding attacks.
| Parallel Dedede's boss attacks inKirby Star Allies | |
|---|---|
| First phase: Parallel Dedede wields his hammer and attacks in a similar fashion to his regular counterpart. | |
| Attack | Description |
| Head Slide | Parallel Dedede runs and dives into Kirby or an ally. His dive goes as far asShadow Dedede's andKing D-Mind's. |
| Hypernova Inhale ~ Spit | Parallel Dedede runs up to a target and then inhales with a range of about half the stage. If he succeeds in swallowing someone, he will then spit them out. |
| Dedede Jump | Parallel Dedede jumps into the air and attempts to land on Kirby or an ally. He leaves a Dropped Star and some shockwaves on each side when landing. |
| Hammer | Parallel Dedede slams his hammer in front of him. This leaves a star from his hammer. If he gets close to an airborne target, he will instead jump into the air and slam the hammer down, producing a shockwave. Both the hammer and shockwave leave behind stars. |
| Gordo Throw | Parallel Dedede pulls out aGordo and then hits it with his hammer, sending it bouncing across the arena. He does this three times, at slightly different trajectories. |
| Hover | Parallel Dedede takes in air and starts flying. Once he is finished, he releases anAir Bullet and falls back to ground level. |
| Second phase: When Parallel Dedede's stamina is below about 65%, his hammer is destroyed and lost. Now his body gets buffed and he attacks with his giant beefy arms. | |
| Attack | Description |
| Stage Transition | Parallel Dedede slams the floor with his beefy arms, causing it to break and sending everyone to a lower level. He always begins the second phase with this attack. |
| Dedede Jump | In this phase, Parallel Dedede jumps into the air and slams the ground with his beefy arms. He leaves two stars and two shockwaves on each side when landing. He may do this jump once or three times. |
| Dispose Food | Parallel Dedede collects some rotten food from the pile and tosses it at Kirby or an ally. This food is dangerous if swallowed, but can be cleaned usingWater or anySplash elemental ability. Unlike regular Dedede, Parallel Dedede will also throw Gordos from the food pile; one for the second set and two for the third set. |
| Desperate Dam Dam | Parallel Dedede attacks with his beefy arms, slamming the ground in succession. Every slam leaves a star. Unlike macho Dedede, he slams six times before finishing his combo. At the end of Parallel Dedede's combo, a rock is flipped out from the floor, which can be swallowed for theStone ability. |
| Extra Dedede Jump | Parallel Dedede hovers towards the ceiling and then slams down on the ground, doing so moving left-to-right or right-to-left. Each time he slams the ground, he leaves behind some Dropped Stars.
|
| Consecutive Bound Rocket | Parallel Dedede grabs hold of a wall and then bounds left-and-right six times, before slamming into the ground in the middle of the arena. After the ground slam, he will land on the ground like the end of a Dedede Jump, leaving behind shockwaves. Each wall-bound and the final ground slam leaves behind stars.
|
In phase 1, Parallel Dedede attacks in a fixed order on loop as follows:
- Head Slide
- Head Slide
- Hypernova Inhale ~ Spit
- Dedede Jump x3
- Hammer
- Dedede Jump
- Gordo Throw
- Hypernova Inhale ~ Spit
- Head Slide
- Head Slide
- Hypernova Inhale ~ Spit
- Dedede Jump
- Hover
In phase 2, after the Stage Transition, he attacks in a fixed order on loop as follows:
- Dedede Jump
- Dispose Food
- Desperate Dam Dam
- Dedede Jump x3
- Extra Dedede Jump
- Desperate Dam Dam
- Consecutive Bound Rocket
When Parallel Dedede is defeated, his macho transformation is deactivated and he falls down just like the original Dedede.
Music[edit]
Parallel Dedede andParallel Meta Knight share the same battle theme. It is composed byYuuta Ogasawara and titled"Against a Sword-King, the Dimension to Win".[3] It can be found as Track 193 in theJukebox.
The first verse is the same as the battle theme ofParallel Woods andParallel Big Kracko, but is followed by rock remixes of "My Friend and the Sunset" and "Masked Dedede's Theme". "Sword King" actually refers to both Parallel Meta Knight (sword) and Parallel Dedede (king).
Trivia[edit]
- Interestingly enough, Parallel Dedede's color scheme was tweaked between the original reveal of Wave 3 and the release. His original version had much more subdued colors that did not pop out nearly as much.
- The rest area used before the Parallel Dedede battle in Soul Melter EX ofThe Ultimate Choice plays the "Dangerous Dinner" stage select theme fromKirby's Return to Dream Land. Interestingly, both words of Dangerous Dinner begin with D, and like the possessed Dedede inClash at Castle Dedede, he is also devouring a pile of fruits before the battle begins.
- In Soul Melter EX ofThe Ultimate Choice, Parallel Dedede gives higher scores (10000+50000, tied with the rest of thebosses after him exceptVoid) than the other three parallel bosses (3000+15000 each).
