Normal
| ||||||||||||||||
| ||||||||||||||||
- This article is about Kirby's state when he has no Copy Abilities. For other uses of "Normal", seeNormal (disambiguation).
Normal refers toKirby's regular state when he has noCopy Ability copied, and can either copy one or use hisInhale to inhaleenemies and spit them out asStar Bullets, although not every appearance of Normal allows Kirby to do both of these actions. It is not exactly a Copy Ability by definition, but it is categorized as one inKirby Portal andNintendo Today!, and occasionally at least partly treated as one in some games.
Normal is Kirby's default state in all games it appears in, and as such is the state Kirby has whenever a game is started, and also when Kirby comes back after losing a life in most situations. In games where Normal allows Kirby to copy abilities, Normal is replaced with the ability copied, and when that ability is lost or dropped, Kirby reverts to Normal. Some games also have other means of applying the Normal state to Kirby.
Normal is only referred to as such in a small number of games (Kirby's Adventure,Kirby & The Amazing Mirror,Kirby: Canvas Curse,Kirby: Squeak Squad,Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition (New Challenge Stages),Kirby and the Forgotten Land, andKirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World). In other games, it is either referred to asKirby or it simply does not have an in-game name.

Kirby's Dream Course[edit]

In this game alone, Normal is one of the obtainable abilities in theMix roulette, and landing on it will remove any previous ability Kirby or Keeby had.
Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

Normal functions inKirby's Dream Land 2 the same as it did inKirby's Adventure, but now it also allows Kirby to use its abilities when riding anAnimal Friend. In particular, each Animal Friend gives different properties to Normal:Rick works similarly, although Rick is the one that inhales, swallows and spits out enemies, not Kirby;Kine allows Kirby to inhale underwater;Coo allows Kirby to inhale while flying more easily.

Kirby's Block Ball[edit]
InKirby's Block Ball, Normal functions almost the same as it did inKirby's Dream Course: Kirby can obtain copy abilities by defeating certain enemies, but cannot inhale.
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
InKirby Super Star and its remake,Kirby Super Star Ultra, Normal functions the same as it did in previous mainline games except inMilky Way Wishes, where Normal Kirby can only copy limited-use abilities. In addition, uniquely to this game, Kirby can perform theNormal Beam only in his Normal state.
Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]
InKirby's Dream Land 3, Normal works similarly toKirby's Dream Land 2 for Kirby.Gooey can also get Copy Abilities and, like Kirby, has a Normal state, although instead of inhaling, he uses his tongue to eat enemies. He can't eat more than one enemy at a time like Kirby, but he is able to use his tongue underwater instead of using theWater Gun. Additionally, some Animal Friends have new unique interactions when inhaling (Rick can walk but has short range, andChuChu uses her tentacle to grab and feed Kirby or Gooey).
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]

InKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Normal works similarly to previous mainline games; however, enemies spit by Kirby aren't always spit as Star Bullets. Instead of spitting them out, Kirby can also carry enemies above his head and throw them away. Some enemies also have special abilities when held. In addition, much like all other Copy Abilities in the game, Normal's skills can be usedunderwater, including Kirby's inhale and spit. In the Japanese version, when theheads-up display is set to option 4, Normal displays as無 ("nothing").
Kirby Air Ride[edit]
Kirby Air Ride features Normal with the same properties as its appearances in mainline games. However, Kirby can only effectively use Normal when riding anAir Ride Machine; when walking around without one inCity Trial, Kirby cannot inhale or copy abilities fromCopy Panels.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]
InKirby & The Amazing Mirror, Normal Kirby gains a new version ofinhale called Super Inhale, which is automatically triggered after he inhales for a while. It allows Kirby to inhale large enemies and moveHeave-Ho Blocks, but Kirby grows tired and stops inhaling after some time. It is also named in-game, in the mainHUD when Kirby has no copy ability equipped.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]
InKirby: Canvas Curse, Normal functions almost the same as it did inKirby's Dream Course andKirby's Block Ball, where Kirby can copy abilities after defeating certain enemies. In this game, Normal Kirby is unable to inhale, and can instead obtain abilities by simplydashing into enemies. Normal is also named in-game, in thepause screen.
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

InKirby: Squeak Squad, Normal works the same as it did inKirby & The Amazing Mirror, and is once again named in-game in the main HUD when Kirby has no copy ability equipped. Normal Kirby also has a uniqueidle animation, where Kirby dreams about his lostStrawberry Shortcake.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
InKirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake,Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Normal functions almost the same as it did in previous mainline games, but notably, Super Inhale is now triggered differently than the previous games, requiring player input rather than happening automatically (although inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, it can triggered after inhaling normally for a while). To compensate, Kirby no longer grows tired after performing a Super Inhale for a while, and can do it indefinitely. Kirby's Star Bullets can also become much larger depending on how much he inhaled, although they also move a lot slower. In addition, Normal is used for theItem Challenge, albeit the focus of saidChallenge Stage is on items, not on Normal itself.

| Inhale/Spit | 1 | B/Y | Kirby starts to suck up air directly in front of him, and any inhalable enemy and object in his range will go towards. Once that happens, Kirby's mouth will be full, and if the button is pressed again, Kirby will spit what he had in his mouth as a Star Bullet. | ||||
| Super Inhale | 1 + Shake Wii Remote or mash + Control Pad | Hold B/Y or B/Y + move L Stick rapidly | Same as Inhale, except the range is much larger and Kirby will remain inhaling for as long as the controller is shaken/button is held. | Swallow/Copy | ↓ after inhaling foe | ↓ after inhaling | After inhaling a foe, this makes Kirby swallow them. Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]

InKirby's Dream Collection Special Edition, Normal reappears in all of the games available as Classic Titles. Moreover, inNew Challenge Stages, Normal, working exactly the same as it did inKirby's Return to Dream Land, gains a proper challenge in the form ofNormal Challenge. It is not available inMagolor Race 3 andMagolor Race EX as it's not a proper Copy Ability.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
InKirby: Triple Deluxe, Normal works pretty much the same as the previous mainline games, although Super Inhale can now be also triggered after inhaling for a while. WhileHypernova at first appears to be a stronger version of Normal, it does not allow Kirby to copy abilities, and in particular Hypernova cannot spit enemies or objects as Star Bullets like Normal Kirby can in most games.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
InKirby: Planet Robobot, Normal works the same asKirby: Triple Deluxe. Normal is also the default mode of theRobobot Armor,[1] being able to copy abilities much like Kirby, albeit by scanning enemies instead of inhaling them. Normal can also be used inKirby 3D Rumble, albeit it doesn't allow the use of Copy Abilities.
Kirby's Blowout Blast[edit]
InKirby's Blowout Blast, Kirby is always in his Normal state, just like inKirby's Dream Land and Kirby 3D Rumble, meaning that Kirby can inhale and spit out enemies as stars, but cannot copy abilities. Additionally, after having inhaled a large amount of enemies, Kirby drastically grows in size, which slows down his movement. This state is officially referred to asFull Belly Kirby[2] orsuper-stuffed Kirby[3]. In this game, Kirby can also turn in any direction while inhaling or when aiming a Star Bullet.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
InKirby Star Allies, Normal works mostly the same as previous mainline games, and similarly to inKirby Super Star and its remake, Kirby can use the Unfriend move when on Normal state to remove Friends, or alternatively inhale and swallow them to take their ability. Normal Kirby is also a selectable option forThe Ultimate Choice. InHeroes in Another Dimension and The Ultimate Choice's Soul Melter EX difficulty, Normal Kirby's Star Bullets and Blaster Bullets deal increased damage compared to all other modes and/or difficulties.
Notably, in Heroes in Another Dimension, Normal is not available for most of the mode, asHero Doors force a Copy Ability orDream Friend on Kirby, and, for the former, Kirby cannot drop said abilities. As such, Normal can only be usable at the beginning and end of each stage of the mode, as well as theFinal Dimension.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land /Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]

InKirby and the Forgotten Land and itsNintendo Switch 2 Edition, Normal Kirby's moveset functions similar toKirby's Blowout Blast, he can now slowly walk around whileinhaling, and lock his angle during this by holding L/R. Like inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, enemies spit by Kirby aren't always spit as pureStar Bullets, but they have the same properties as them. There are twoTreasure Road stages based on Normal (and called "Normal Treasure" for short):Sweet Success! Invincible Rampage andKirby's Inhale Showdown. In addition, while Normal isn't necessary for Kirby to obtainMouthful Modes, the Normal state is always forced on Kirby whenever he enters a Treasure Road stage for one, similarly to the two Normal stages. Interestingly, when Kirby is set to Normal status after selecting these stages, the "Copy Ability obtained" sound effect plays, as if Normal was a proper copy ability.
If Kirby attempts to swallow a foe to gain an ability in any of the Normal Treasure Roads, he will not copy the ability: the ability will instead be automatically discarded in an expiring state.[4]
The following table lists Normal Kirby's moveset inKirby and the Forgotten Land. All attack names listed are taken from theKirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
InKirby's Dream Buffet, Normal functions mostly the same as it did inKirby's Dream Course,Kirby's Block Ball andKirby: Canvas Curse, although Kirby obtainsCopy Food Abilities instead of regular Copy Abilities.
Kirby Air Riders[edit]
Normal appears inKirby Air Riders and functions identically to how it does inKirby Air Ride, with the exception of applying to all riders instead of only Kirby.
