Neo Star is the naturalistic fourth world encountered byKirby and his sidekick,Ribbon, on their mission to vanquishDark Matter from their realm inKirby 64: The Crystal Shards. Like theRock Star realm, Neo Star continues the pattern of stage variety, paying an emphasized homage to realistic landscapes seen on Earth, through the incorporation of volcanic climates, forest areas, subterranean caves, and mountainous passages endemic to the topography of real-world locations.
Its appearance takes the form of a prehistoric jungle, including the volcano used in Stage 4.
Overview[edit]
Neo Star is the third of the four "intermediate" worlds ofKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, meaning that it contains four standard stages and a fifth boss stage, with only one cutscene playing at the end of the level. Neo Star is the most wild of the planets Kirby visits in the game, with no structural development to be seen anywhere. Instead, Kirby must make his way through largely wild spaces, and may find the topography quite difficult to move through. Among the challenging environments Kirby must traverse, there are thick green jungles with trees towering overbottomless pits, massive underground chasms with mine cart tracks and shifting walls, high rocky mountain ranges with crumbling platforms, and an active volcanic region with rivers and lakes of lava. Unlike many other worlds in the game, the inhabitants of Neo Star are relatively sparse, perhaps as a result of the tricky terrain.
Like in all intermediate worlds ofKirby 64: The Crystal Shards, the first four stages within Neo Star hide three Crystal Shards, while the final stage rewards only one after the defeat of the boss. Nevertheless, all shards within one level do not need to be collected before Kirby is granted access to the next; Kirby must simply complete the level.
Stages[edit]
Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. DefeatingMagman is necessary to move on toShiver Star. Ending cutscene[edit]

As Kirby and pals look over the crystal, the surrounding volcanoes all begin to erupt. The team makes a run for it as the crystal portal toShiver Star opens. They all jump into the portal one-by-one, but Waddle Dee cannot keep up. Kirby emerges from the portal, and inhales Waddle Dee to get him inside before it closes.
