"Mt. Slide", named"Theme from Mt. Slide" in the British English version, is a theme fromKirby's Epic Yarn and itsremake that plays in thestage with the same name. It was composed byTomoya Tomita.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Mt. Slide" is a thrilling orchestrated theme in F major and 4/4. The intro kicks off with an augmented triad piccolo ostinato, sleigh bells and string melody full of bright accidentals. This is followed by a quick muted trumpet call and string and glockenspieal diminished triad response. The violin melody, which borrows the opening intonations of "Mushroom Run", comes in with a grandiose tutti, ornamented by harp glissandi, piccolo trills and frequent percussion. This section repeats with its percussion further accelerated, and the melody picked up by more instruments. The second section has more scarce instrumentation, featuring castanets instead of the louder percussion, and a chromatically rising string melody in A major. After the strings are briefly joined by a trombone solo, they transition with a phrase similar to the analogous section of "Snowy Fields".
Instead of a becoming lyrical section, this third part mirrors the second with primarily descending clarinet and flute phrases with augmented fourths at their core, followed by violin vibrato and dissonant trombone chords. With a harp glissando, another tutti starts in D-sharp major, with the sleigh bells returning and glockenspieal backing up the strings. This section doesn't stay in D-sharp major for long, and quickly modulates down through C-sharp and C major. This repeats again, now in F major and its close functions. The phrase ends with a slow rising dominant phrase, followed by a rapid descending scale. However, not all is smooth, and the augmented harmonies of the intro return as the track loops.
