Missile is aCopy Ability that is obtainable primarily from the enemyBang-Bang which allowsKirby to fire himself at enemies in the form of a rocket-propelled explosive. It debuted inKirby & The Amazing Mirror and later made an appearance inKirby: Canvas Curse, where it is one of the four Copy Abilities to haveits own course inRainbow Run.

When not transformed, Missile Kirby has a hat that resembles the business end of a missile, though pink and striped. When transformed, Missile Kirby flies in a straight direction, steerable either directly using the Control Pad inKirby & The Amazing Mirror or by using the Rainbow Line inKirby: Canvas Curse. Though the speed of the missile differs between games, deftly controlling it in either case is no mean feat, requiring similar finesse to theWheel ability. When the missile strikes an enemy or object, or when canceling the flight manually, it explodes, causing any enemy caught in the blast radius to receive damage. After exploding, Kirby immediately reverts to normal and tumbles toward the ground.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

Kirby using the Missile ability to fly upward inKirby & The Amazing Mirror.

Missile is introduced inKirby & The Amazing Mirror, where it can first be obtained from aBang-Bang occupying the first route inRainbow Route. Missile is fairly uncommon in the game, as it can be obtained only by swallowing Bang-Bangs and a defeatedmid-boss,Bombar.

Missile is essential for destroyingmetal blocks, along with other abilities such asBurning. Missile can travel underwater as well. By default, Missile will be launched forward diagonally if the + Control Pad is not pressed. The + Control Pad can be used to assign the launch and flying directions.

In the North American and European versions, Missile does 4damage by a direct hit, or 1 by the explosion (for reference, aStar Bullet does 10 damage in this title). The Japanese version bumps the damage up to 6 by a direct hit and 2 by the explosion, respectively. Missile's damage doesnot have any element, contrary to popular belief of having fire.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

Missile also appears inKirby: Canvas Curse, although more rarely than in the game's predecessor. Here, it can only be obtained by defeating a Bang-Bang by either dashing into it or stunning and hitting it. Like in the preceding game, Missile is used for destroyingmetal blocks, with an added potential to destroy pink blocks with missile icons on them. The missile is controlled by the player guiding it by drawing lines. It is also much slower in this game thanKirby & The Amazing Mirror.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Missile Kirby fromKirby & The Amazing Mirror appears as akeychain inKirby: Triple Deluxe.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

InKirby's Dream Buffet, Missile Kirby appears on aCharacter Treat, using the artwork fromKirby & The Amazing Mirror. Missile does not appear as anAbility in the game proper.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]

The Missile ability as it appears inKirby Air Riders.

After a long absence as a proper Copy Ability, Missile returns inKirby Air Riders. It is one of the rarest Copy Abilities in the game, only being obtainable by inhaling or capturing Bang-Bang or touching a MissileCopy Essence; both of these typically only appear in front of riders who are far behind inAir Ride orTop Ride races respectively. When obtained, the rider is automatically transformed into a missile which travels forward across the course automatically at high speeds. The missile's trajectory can be slightly altered by moving the control stick to the left or right. Like all abilities inKirby Air Riders, Missile is a limited-time ability. When the ability runs out, the missile will explode, dealing damage to opponents and enemies nearby. This explosion will be triggered early if the ability is dropped by pressing the Special button repeatedly.

Like all Copy Abilities in the game, any rider can use it, not just Kirby; due to this, the missile's design differs significantly from its original appearance, now being a small, metallic gray, cylindrical rocket with black markings that is shared across every rider. The user also no longer receives a hat upon obtaining the ability, as the missile transformation is automatic.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror manual[edit]

  • "Missile Kirby flies into enemies or boulders and explodes, but you can also blow him up with B!"

Trivia[edit]

  • A Copy Ability where Kirby would ride on a rocket was planned forKirby's Adventure, but it didn't make the cut.[1] It is possible that this ability was the inspiration for the Missile ability.
  • A missile similar to this ability appears as one of the symbols onVoid Termina's body inKirby Star Allies.
