TheMetamato is a magical tomato made of yarn which can be seen in the openingcutscene ofKirby's Epic Yarn and its remake:Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn. There only appears to be one of them, and it originally belonged toYin-Yarn the sorcerer. In the opening cutscene of the game, Kirby encounters the Metamato sitting on top of a bush while strolling throughDream Land. Confusing it as aMaxim Tomato, Kirby begins toinhale, intent on eating it. As it turns out, Yin-Yarn was holding onto the Metamato the whole time. Kirby pulls the yarn fruit right off of Yin-Yarn's hat and eats it, prompting the upset sorcerer to immediately banish him toPatch Land.
As it turns out, the Metamato was imbued with magical powers, as eating it gave Kirby the power to shapeshift his new yarn body while in Patch Land. This allows him to take on a number ofTransformations which are needed to solve puzzles and fight enemies in the game, as Kirby can not inhale while in yarn form.
According to Yin-Yarn's JapanesePatch Plaza description, he originally planned to use the power of the Metamato to take over the world.[1]
In theKirby novel series[edit]
A Metamato appears in theKirby: Big Trouble in Patch Land! volume of theKirby novel series, reprising its role from the games:Kirby eats one at the beginning of the story, taking it from Yin-Yarn, and it grants Kirby special abilities.Prince Fluff later explains to Kirby that Metamatos are rare tomatoes said that can give powers to those who eat one, but he didn't know if that was really true since they are so rare he had never seen one before. Later on,Me-Devil also explains that only those who eat a Metamato can obtainMetamortex Transformations by touching aMetamortex.
Since Prince Fluff didn't eat a Metamato in the story, he cannot undergo any sort of transformation like Kirby can.
