Meta Knightmare Ultra is anExtra Mode exclusive toKirby Super Star Ultra, based onMeta Knightmare fromKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It includes all the main games fromKirby Super Star Ultra (minusGourmet Race andRevenge of the King), with one main difference: the player plays asMeta Knight instead ofKirby or ahelper. Also unlike the original games, the time it takes to complete each game is recorded.
This game also has its own storyline, though it is mostly relegated to short cutscenes that mirror the original games' events, with an original plot only coming into play near the end of the story.
This is the second title of the "Meta Knightmare" time attack series, the first beingMeta Knightmare fromKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land and the latest beingMeta Knightmare Returns fromKirby: Planet Robobot.

After being defeated by Kirby inRevenge of Meta Knight, Meta Knight goes on a journey to train and become stronger.[1] He retraces Kirby's steps onPop Star, sinkshis own battleship, gathers power from the surrounding planets, then finally summons the wish-grantingGalactic Nova, still visibly damaged from its destruction inMilky Way Wishes. Meta Knight wishes to fight the greatest warrior in the galaxy, so Nova calls inGalacta Knight, who was sealed away because he was thought to be too powerful. Once Meta Knight defeats Galacta Knight, his training and the mode are both complete.
Gameplay differences[edit]
As expected, moving Meta Knight is different from moving Kirby. Meta Knight can'tinhale or copy foes, but he always can fly like theWing Copy Ability and attack like theSword Copy Ability. Also, Meta Knight can useMeta Points, as explained below.Food is harder to find, as all normal food is removed, andMaxim Tomatoes andCopy Essences are replaced by food.
Meta Points[edit]
Meta Knight not only gets score for defeating enemies, he also getsMeta Points from them. He gets one to three points from an enemy, depending on the strength of the enemy. For example, he can only get one point fromBroom Hatter orWaddle Dee, but he can get two fromWaddle Doo orKnuckle Joe and three fromGrizzo. He gets five points from amid-boss and ten from aboss, regardless of whether they are easy, likeWhispy Woods, or more difficult, likeWham Bam Rock orHeavy Lobster. Meta Knight can use these points to perform special attacks. Each one is performed by tapping its icon on theNintendo DS touch screen. He can only hold up to 50 points.

These tornadoes kill all normal enemies and drastically hurt most bosses. Since it costs 30/50 points, it can't be used twice in a row even if Meta Knight has maximum points. | 30 |
Trivia[edit]
- Meta Knight destroys theHalberd, his own ship, for seemingly unknown reasons.
- Unlike in the originalMeta Knightmare or the laterMeta Knightmare Returns, Meta Knight does not fight a duplicate or counterpart of himself corresponding to the battle against him in the base game; instead, theRevenge of Meta Knight segment ends prematurely when he destroys theReactor.
- Meta Knight's helpers in this game,Sword Knight andBlade Knight, are also his helpers inthe anime.
- After clearing Meta Knightmare Ultra, there is also a rare chance that a variant of the "Grand Opening" intro movie featuring Meta Knight will play. This movie can be viewed in theTheater as "Fly! Meta Knight".
- In the Japanese version, it's possible to use the special attacks in theRest Areas. This is not present in the international versions of the game.
