| “ | This is the tale of a different world in a different time. There, a traveler named Magolor built an amusement park where he could entertain his friends. It was a merry place where four friends could enjoy attractions and collect souvenirs together. It was a park full of excitement, where dreams could come to life. It was a place called...Magoland! | ” | — Openingnarration forMerry Magoland inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe |
Merry Magoland is aMagolor-themed amusement park which serves as the main area whereSub-Games and other extra content can be accessed inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and one of the main additions to the remake which was not present in the originalKirby's Return to Dream Land. This area is said to be situated inanother world and time period separate from theStory Mode, though despite this, it can be clearly seen in the background in certain places onPopstar, such as inNutty Noon - Stage 1.
The park is defined by a giant lavishly-decorated castle-like structure made to resemble Magolor, which houses the doors to the various Sub-Games, though there is also a large court area in front of the castle. Merry Magoland becomes available to visit after clearing the first two stages inCookie Country (in thedemo, Merry Magoland opens after clearing just the first stage). After that point,Kirby and up to three friends are free to visit the park from theWorld Map at any time via theWarp Star, and travel around the park using it.
Merry Magoland is run by Magolor in a top hat and wearing a large bowtie (referred to officially as "Manager Magolor"). The park is filled with various visitors, mainlyWaddle Dees. There is also a permanent Waddle Dee employee namedSouvenir Shop Waddle Dee who allows Kirby and friends to set specialsouvenir items to the stock item slot and put onDress-Up Masks they have obtained from earning stamps in theStamp Rally. Additionally,Bosses from Story Mode (barringGrand Doomer) and statues of theDream Friends fromKirby Star Allies as well as a statue ofElfilin appear in the plaza as the player progresses through Story Mode and completesmissions.
Sub-Games[edit]
The main attraction of Merry Magoland are the Sub-Games on offer, officially referred to as "subgame attractions". Unlike in the Lor Starcutter, there are no unlock requirements to play them in Merry Magoland. They can be played individually by accessing the doors on the main castle structure, or they can be played in a sequence of four by playing theMagoland Tour, which is unlocked after playing three different subgame attractions for the first time. Likely due to the competitive nature of the Magoland Tour, none of the subgame attractions in Merry Magoland feature any kind of cooperative play. The subgame attractions are as follows, in chronological order of appearance:
| Subgame attractions in Merry Magoland | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Sub-Game | Origin game | Description | Notes |
| Kirby's Adventure | A game where the contestants catch eggs thrown byRobo Dedede while avoiding bombs. | The original game had King Dedede throwing the eggs and bombs, but this was changed since he is a possible contestant now. | |
| Kirby Super Star | A game where the contestants strike when prompted as quickly as they can to try to come out on top. | There is now both a single player and multiplayer version of this game, with the former resembling classic Samurai Kirby and the latter resemblingQuick Draw's multiplayer mode inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. | |
| Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards | A game where the contestants run around an 8x8 grid platform and throw waves to drop tiles to try and make their opponents fall. | A new "High-Speed" mode has been added in this version, which is unlocked after clearing Intense! difficulty with at least one CPU rival present. | |
| Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land | A game where the contestants bat a bomb around using frying pans, and whoever doesn't bat in time gets blown up and eliminated from the game. | ||
| Kirby & The Amazing Mirror | A game where the contestants charge up and punch a boulder to see who can create the deepest fissure in the ground. | ||
| Kirby: Squeak Squad | A game where the contestants bump each other using special "Smash Stars" to knock each other off the arena. | TheSqueaks return as course obstacles as well, with additions compared to the original game. | |
| Kirby Super Star Ultra | A game where the contestants shoot cardboard cutouts of enemies that pop up in a Wild West-like setting. | A new Magolor target has been added in this version, worth more points than the others. | |
| Kirby's Return to Dream Land | A game where the contestants toss shurikens at moving targets to try and hit the bull's-eyes. | ||
| Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe | A new game where the contestants try to find the book that Magolor is thinking of in a library. | ||
| A new game where the contestants run around top-down arenas and shoot at each other using laser guns. | Likely a replacement forScope Shot from the originalKirby's Return to Dream Land, which does not appear in this game. | ||
| A variant of Samurai Kirby which pits Kirby against the 99 most recent times from around the world. | This game is not available until Samurai Kirby is played at least once. This game uses a connection to the internet, though it is not played live against other opponents and CPUs are only used if the player doesn't have an internet connection. It is the only sub-game here that is single-player only. | ||
Stamps[edit]
- Main article:Stamp Rally
By playing Sub-Games in Merry Magoland or by redeeming Stamp Tickets in the Main Mode, Kirby is awarded stamps which are added to hisStamp Rally card. Gaining a certain number of stamps unlocks rewards, which includes souvenir items and dress-up masks. Stamps are also awarded for finding "Hidden Magolor" stickers around the lobby in Merry Magoland, three of which which can be found in different locations each day.
Other features[edit]

Other features in Merry Magoland include the following:
- When speaking to Manager Magolor, he will reveal information about game statistics around the world, similar toWise Waddle Dee inKirby and the Forgotten Land. These statistics include information about which Dress-Up Mask is most popular, what Sub-Game is being played the most, and how manyPop Flowers were opened in the Main Mode, along with other things.
- There is aMissions menu which can be accessed from this area. Each Sub-Game has a set of missions, and there are 100 objectives to meet initially. Missions do not award prizes individually, though reaching certain numbers of missions complete gives out other rewards.
- When all of the Missions for a particular Sub-Game are complete, the option to use alternate music is unlocked. For the returning Sub-Games, this is their original music, while the new Sub-Games have chiptune remixes.
- Once all of the main 100 missions are completed, 20 "True Extra Missions" are unlocked that are a lot more difficult. These missions do not need to be cleared to obtain100% completion inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, but completing them is required to unlock the music track "Deluxe Master!" (Track 199) in theJukebox.
- The various Waddle Dee visitors to the park cannot be spoken to, but if Kirby and friendspose near them, the Waddle Dees will wave back. These Waddle Dees can also occasionally be seen wearing Dress-Up Masks.
Trivia[edit]
- The "Hidden Magolors" are likely a parody ofHidden Mickeys from theDisney Parks, which are symbols of Mickey Mouse hidden in the architecture or landscaping.
- Magolor's description of Merry Magoland as "the funnest place in the whole universe" is also a possible reference to the slogan ofDisneyland, "the happiest place on earth".
