AMedal is a symbol meant to signify the player's performance in a given stage in someKirby titles. Getting Gold Medals in each stage in these titles is typically a requirement for100% completion.

Medals are also collectible items inKirby: Canvas Curse andKirby Mass Attack. They are used primarily to obtain bonus material.

Medals byKirby title[edit]

Kirby's Dream Course[edit]

Medals make their first appearance inKirby's Dream Course. Here, they are awarded if the player makes it under a given total par in a single-player course. While they do nothing individually aside from decorating the platforms of the stage select screen, collecting every medal of a certain type offers the following rewards:

A Bronze medal or better on every Main Game course unlocks theExtra Game for the 2P Courses.
A Silver Medal or better on every Main Game course unlocks the Extra Game for the 1P Game.
A Gold Medal on every Main Game course unlocks the ability to select individual holes to play (same goes for the Extra Game holes when Gold is achieved there).
A Bronze Medal or better on all Main and Extra Game courses unlocks theSound Test for the game.
A Silver medal or better on all Main and Extra Game courses unlocks theDance Select, allowing the player to view all of Kirby andKeeby's dances.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

Medals can be found in each stage ofKirby: Canvas Curse, in various locations. They are used in theMedal Swap to obtain bonus content.

Medals are also earned by playingRainbow Run, playing theSub-Games, completing the game as other characters, and playingDash! Jump!.

There are 250 Medals in total. Collecting them all will signal100% completion.

Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]

Each stage awards a medal from bronze to gold based on how manyBeads were collected. The amount needed varies per stage. The player needs to earn at least a bronze medal on each stage to obtain100% completion (and, due to the way they are designed, the player must earn gold medals on all of the boss stages to unlock every stage).

Kirby Mass Attack[edit]

The special screen that shows after all 186 Medals are collected.

Medals can be found in each non-Boss stage, usually hidden in hard-to-access areas or locked away. One medal in each stage is a Rainbow Medal, which is needed to access the final world -Necro Nebula. There are a total of 186 medals, including one in the credits. Getting gold medals is necessary to unlock bonus material such asSub-Games and theSound Test.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]

Each stage awards a medal from Bronze to Gold based on how manyPoint Stars were collected. The amount needed is different for each stage.

Kirby Battle Royale[edit]

This title rewards medals to the player whenever a specific objective is met. When a medal is earned, the player is also given Battle Coins, which can be used to unlock material such asHeadgear. The game keeps track of the medals which the player has earned in a separate menu, similar to theChecklist from earlier titles. There are 60 in total, and earning all of them is necessary for100% completion of the game. As it stands, an online connection is not required to obtain every medal, but playing online matches back when the servers were still up allowed for faster accumulation of Battle Coins than offline Battle Modes (assuming a decent connection, regular players to play with, and decent performance in the games).

Medals are not awarded to the player until returning to the Main Menu.

A number of titles feature contexts where the player receives a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum medal on completing a stage. These contexts include

The mere fact of successful completion is sufficient for a bronze medal, with faster completion times and higherscores needed for silver, gold, and platinum. These ranks can also be displayed in the form of atrophy, as in the case ofKirby 3D Rumble andKirby's Blowout Blast.
