 This box: view  talk  edit

TheMaxim Tomato box[conjectural title] is an item, first appearing inKirby's Return to Dream Land which, upon being thrown, breaks open to reveal aMaxim Tomato.

The box itself is a simple design, with red sides and silver trim, with a picture of a Maxim Tomato on one side.

The box can be picked up, carried, and thrown like many other items in the game. Similarly, the character holding the box can only make one jump and cannot use any attack but aSlide. When thrown, the box itself can deal minor damage to enemies. Additionally, like most items, the box can be carried through doors into other parts of the stage, but care must be taken, as it cannot be carried or used underwater.

In order to obtain the Maxim Tomato within, the box must be thrown, and then hit the ground. Done correctly, it will shake for a moment, then break open, freeing the tomato. If thrown by mistake, the carrier has the time in which it is shaking to pick it up again before it breaks.

The box only appears in the following scenarios:

  • InRaisin Ruins - Stage 3 shortly before theKing Doo battle and inOnion Ocean - Stage 3 before theMoundo battle.
  • In Story Mode and Extra Mode, if Kirby is defeated by the sameboss at least 6 times in a row, a box will appear near Kirby's respawn point.
  • InThe Arena andThe True Arena, only 1 box is available in the rest area between battles, and will be replaced by a small tomato later if consumed. In the True Arena only, the box cannot be carried through the last five battles (starting fromLor & Magolor EX) in the originalKirby's Return to Dream Land and the last six battles (starting fromHR-D3) inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe because the platform below the dimensional rift disappears, resulting in the rift being too high for Kirby to jump into while carrying the box. Not only that, but even if Kirby manages to perform aHeadbutt Jump off of another player's head to get into the rift, he will automatically drop the box upon doing so.
