This article is about the mace-wielding enemy, and should not be confused withMace Knight.
Masher is a heavily armored compact knight-like creature who has sparingly appeared in various different forms throughout theKirby series. It takes on vastly different characteristics based on what it appears in, either being a regularenemy, amid-boss, or amonster. Despite these portrayals, Masher's consistent characteristics are its bulky armor, black rectangular visor, spiky helmet, cross-shaped chest insignia, and its choice of weapon (a mace or flail).
InKirby's Dream Land 2, Masher is a regular enemy who takes the form of an iron-clad warrior roughly the size ofKirby with round hands and feet, armed with a large spiked ball on a chain. Its entire body is encased in purple armor, which bears a Greek cross on the front of its cylindrical breastplate and an orange spike on top of the flat helmet part.

InKirby's Dream Land 2, Masher is part of a trio of strong adversaries along withBlade andButch. Just like the latter two, it is very rare throughout most of the game, although quite frequently encountered in the final level,Dark Castle. Masher moves towards Kirby and uses its spiked ball to battle him, being able to execute two slightly different attacks with it. Both of these start with Masher swinging the weapon and tossing it straight into the direction it is facing, but the way it returns to the thrower differs; whereas it simply moves back on the same path most of the time, an alternative technique causes it to move upwards in a curving motion before falling straight down to be caught by the combatant.
Like Butch and Blade, Masher cannot be inhaled, but is vulnerable to all other attacks. However, its spiked ball is able to block projectiles while it is moving.
InKirby: Planet Robobot, Masher appears as a regularsticker, based on its artwork fromKirby's Dream Land 2, although missing the chain on its spiked ball.
Masher does not directly appear inKirby's Dream Buffet. However, it can be seen on one of theCharacter Treats, using its artwork fromKirby's Dream Land 2.
InKirby: Planet Robobot'sSub-GameKirby 3D Rumble and its expanded standalone versionKirby's Blowout Blast, Masher appears as amid-boss, with a larger blockier design and new weapon. It is now quite a bit larger than Kirby, and sports a variety of colorations depending on its power. It still possesses disembodied hands and displays its cross on its chest, but the cross now looks more like a + Control Pad. Additionally, its armor has rivets on it, making it look like a robot. As a final touch, the orange spike it once bore on its helmet is smaller, and it has two similar spikes on its hands.
There are three different varieties of Masher in this form. Each one appears at the end of a level, and has different attacks to use. Each Masher is larger than the previous one, and also varies in visual appearance, beyond just the color.
This Masher is red, with gilded spikes and mace, a horned helmet, and a shield. It also roars.
This Masher can create homing beams with its mace swings and attempt to guard with its shield. It will also create numerous shockwaves and use a dash. To top it off, itsHealth is significantly higher than the others.
InKirby's Blowout Blast, Masher only appears inLevel 5, Level 5 EX, andSecret Path. All three variants appear throughout these levels, but none are faced as the last encounter.
Masher appears as amonster in theKirby: Right Back at Ya! episodeMonster Management, described as the strongest monster inNight Mare Enterprises' arsenal. Here, it looks similar to its game counterpart, but is gigantic, as well as possessing arms, a singular shoulder plate on its left side and a long, green cape, all of which are absent from its in-game design. Its weapon is also more complex, having a long, heavy stick attached to the chain on the side opposite the spike ball which can be used to strike with like a nunchuk. Masher is also equipped with jet boosters in its feet which allow it to fly and deliver devastating spinning strikes. Unlike its video game counterpart, Masher is highly implied to be robotic, as its visor glows with a red light when it is angry. Masher's roar sounds vaguely likeGodzilla's.
Masher is ordered from N.M.E. byKnuckle Joe as part of an apparent plot to eliminateKirby. By tossing its weapon as well as performing a strong attack that involves spinning around very quickly, the monster badly harms theStar Warrior and knocks outMeta Knight. However, as it turns out that Knuckle Joe had only ordered it so he could fight it, he ends up assisting Kirby in his struggle with the colossus, disarming and eventually defeating it, causing it to explode. Masher would later return rebuilt and upgraded intoMasher 2.0 in itseponymous episode.
