Mariel is a black orb-shaped spider-like enemy that appears inKirby's Dream Land 3 andKirby 64: The Crystal Shards. When at rest, it appears as nothing more than a black circle on the ground, but as soon as it is disturbed, Mariel reveal its four long spindly legs, opens its two tiny white dot eyes, and begins to walk around. Mariel is not safe forKirby orGooey to ingest, as doing so results in them takingdamage. Instead, it should be taken out using some other attack.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]

Mariel makes its first appearance inKirby's Dream Land 3, debuting in thesixth stage ofGrass Land. In this game, it can sometimes be found resting directly in front ofdoors, making it hard to see due to its black color. This tendency to hide in doorways and its general appearance makes Mariel similar in some ways to the enemyNidoo from the same game.

Trivia[edit]
- Mariel could be a reference toMatarael, the 9th Angel fromNeon Genesis Evangelion. Their appearances are similar concept-wise (spiders with bizarrely huge legs) and both utilize poison/acid in some way. In addition, Mariel's Japanese name (マリエルMarieru) is one character shy from Matarael's (マトリエルMatorieru).
- The credits illustrations forKirby 64: The Crystal Shards give the impression that Mariel's natural predator is the frog-like enemyGlom. This suggests that Glom has some sort of resistance to Mariel's poison.
