Leaf

| ||||||||||||||||||||
Leaf is aCopy Ability that debuted inKirby's Return to Dream Land, and can be obtained from the enemiesLeafan andBulby. When acquiring this ability, Kirby gains a crown of leaves with a brooch at the base with a green gem inset, similar to theFire tiara. Leaf Kirby's attacks include swirling razor-sharp leaves and throwing them mostly in a vortex fashion. These leaves, likeCutter blades and similar projectiles, are able to cutropes. In addition, Leaf Kirby also receives a uniqueGuard, where instead of standing in defensive pose like he normally would, Kirby hides in a leaf pile, which renders him immune to almost all attacks. With its unique Guard and the ability to attack from medium range, Leaf is a defensive ability that cautious players can use very effectively.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Leaf debuts inKirby's Return to Dream Land, also appears in the remake,Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, and is encountered fairly early in the game. It can be obtained from the enemiesLeafan andBulby, neither of which put up much of a fight.
InKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, the leaf throwing speeds are the same as in later games, with Leaf Rain not being able to be used as often in succession, and Leaf Attack being able to be used in succession more quickly. Leaf projectiles also stick to surfaces for a brief moment before disappearing like in later games. None of the other changes from later games are carried over.

| Leaf Attack | 1 | B/Y | Launches several leaves forward. They swirl around Kirby in an increasing arc before flying offscreen in the forwards direction, dealing delayed damage at surprising ranges. |
| Leaf Swirl | Hold 1 | Press and hold B/Y | Kirby begins circling around, forming a tornado of leaves that deals continuous damage. Kirby can jump and move slowly while spinning; the move can be held indefinitely. |

| Leaf Dance | Dash + 1 | Dash + B/Y | A more contained and time-limited form of Leaf Swirl; a quick twister of leaves that hits repeatedly for a second or two. |
| Leaf Hide | Hold A | L/R | A specialGuard, whereupon Kirby hides in a pile of leaves. Kirby becomes intangible, completely immune to any attacks, which pass through him without causing any chip damage or knockback; enemies likewise take no damage upon colliding with him, however. |
| Reveal | During Leaf Hide, release A | During Leaf Hide, release L/R | Releasing Leaf Hide causes a burst of leaves that deal minor damage to nearby enemies. This move exists inKirby's Return to Dream Land, but is not listed as a move. |
| Leaf Uppercut | ↑ + 1 | ↑ + B/Y | Similar toStone Uppercut, Kirby creates a vertical line of leaves that reaches upwards and hits targets at slightly above his level. Acts quickly and can be reasonably spammed against floating bosses. |
| Leaf Rain | ↓ + 1 in midair | ↓ + B/Y in midair | Fires multiple leaves in a fan formation downwards. Gives Kirby a small boost upwards when used, but the delay between uses makes it not feasible to float with. |
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Leaf returns inKirby: Triple Deluxe. Some of its moves were slightly changed in this game and future titles. Leaf Attack now only launches one to two leaves depending on how many leaves have already been thrown instead of two to three—but in exchange, the move can be used in succession quicker—and Leaf Rain only launches three leaves instead of five, with the leaves being more spread apart to compensate; however, the move also cannot be used in succession as quickly. Leaf Dance is now a multi-hitting move that only launches enemies on the final hit, rather than launching them at any point of the move. Any leaf projectiles thrown also now stick to surfaces for a bit before disappearing, but this is only a visual change. It is encountered much less often than inKirby's Return to Dream Land.
