Kirby Dance (theme)
"Kirby Dance",[1][2] also known as"Stage Clear" or"Level Clear",[3] is a brief musical piece used throughout theKirby series to accompanyKirby's signature dance, often playing whenKirby clears a stage or defeats a level's final boss.Jun Ishikawa composed the original version forKirby's Dream Land.
Composition[edit]

The dance jingle in its original form is in C major, and loops through an implied chord progression ofii-V7-I (Dm-G7-C) each measure. The upbeat, bouncy, energetic piece complements Kirby's dance animations, which are often full of jumping and sliding with exaggeratedsquash and stretch. It comes in a long version known as"Kirby Dance (Long)", and a short version half as long known as"Kirby Dance (Short)"; the long version has been around sinceKirby's Dream Land, while the short version was introduced inKirby's Adventure.
The tune is incompound time, evoking a heavy use of triplets. This is appropriate for the Kirby Dance as musical commentary strongly associates triplets with a sense of spinning and twirling[4], which feature in Kirby's dancing dating all the way back toKirby's Dream Land.
There are three distinct variations of the long "Kirby Dance" melody. The primary difference is in the fourth bar. In the original version, this consists of a leap from C down to G. However, starting inKirby's Dream Course,Hirokazu Ando consistently arranges it as a leap from C down to E. Meanwhile, starting withKirby Super Star, Jun Ishikawa usually arranges it as a leap from C down to E followed by a lower C. This can be best compared by the two different arrangements inKirby's Return to Dream Land — the Ishikawa version goes C-E-C, while the Ando version goes C-E.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land[edit]
In its first appearance inKirby's Dream Land, "Kirby Dance" accompanies Kirby's dance after obtaining eachSparkling Star (except for the final one). It appears in theSound Test as track 10.
Kirby's Adventure[edit]
The short version of the "Kirby Dance" theme makes its appearance for the first time inKirby's Adventure in theGoal Game, used when Kirby lands on platforms 7-2. When Kirby lands on the highest Goal Game platform and when he recovers a piece of theStar Rod, the full-length piece, referred to as面クリア時の踊り (Stage Clear Dance) on thesoundtrack, accompanies a longer dance. The full theme also features a prominent percussion line, consisting of a drum sound marking the start and end of each measure except the end of the final measure, not heard in the short version. In the Sound Test, the long and short versions appear as track 07 and 08, respectively. In the3D Classics version, the short version of the theme plays when selecting the game icon on the Nintendo 3DS HOME Menu.
Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]
A functionally identical arrangement to theKirby's Dream Land version of the theme accompanies the Kirby Dance inKirby's Pinball Land.
Kirby's Dream Course[edit]
A synth-orchestral arrangement of the full "Kirby Dance" theme accompanies Kirby's dance upon the completion of each course ofKirby's Dream Course. It appears in the Sound Room as track 015.
Kirby's Avalanche[edit]
At the very end ofKirby's Avalanche, after Kirby defeats King Dedede, the short version of "Kirby Dance" plays during the scene where Kirby is posing with his trophy. It can be found as Music 0C in the sound test.
Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]
The arrangement of the full "Kirby Dance" music inKirby's Dream Land 2 is again essentially identical to the version inKirby's Dream Land, and features in post-boss dances. This version appears as the 22nd track in the Sound Test. However, as the Goal Game featured for the first time in a Kirby game for the Game Boy, the short version of the theme also makes an appearance. In fact, there are five different versions of the "Kirby Dance" theme that can play in this version of the Goal Game:
- If the player lands on cloud 7, only the final note of the "Kirby Dance" melody will play. This appears as track 23 in the Sound Test.
- If the player lands on cloud 6, about half a bar of a modified "Kirby Dance" melody will play. This appears as track 24 in the Sound Test.
- If the player lands on cloud 5 or cloud 4, a bar of "Kirby Dance" music will play. This combines the bass line from the final measure with the first half of the first measure's melody and the second half of the final measure's melody, resulting in doubling of the F-G-A B-A-B triplets. This appears as track 25 in the Sound Test.
- If the player lands on cloud 3 or cloud 2, the final bar-and-a-half of "Kirby Dance" music will play, except with the first half-bar's melody modified to be a pair of triplets (C6-G5-C6-E6-E5-G6). This appears as track 26 in the Sound Test.
- If the player lands on cloud 1, the entire short version of the "Kirby Dance" music will play. This appears as track 27 in the Sound Test.
- Cloud 7
- Cloud 6
- Clouds 4 and 5
- Clouds 2 and 3
- Cloud 1
Kirby's Block Ball[edit]
The Kirby Dance inKirby's Block Ball features an arrangement of the dance theme that is largely identical to the versions inKirby's Dream Land andKirby's Pinball Land, but with a fuzzier percussion track and with the bass line of the second bar starting with D-D-G-G instead of F-F-G-G. Additionally, the "Borderline Clear" track includes a short snippet of "Kirby Dance" at the end.
Kirby Super Star[edit]
InKirby Super Star, "Kirby Dance" plays for long and short dances at the end of each stage inSpring Breeze,Dyna Blade andMilky Way Wishes. The instrumentation is clearly distinct between the long and short versions, with the melody having a woodwind sound to it in the short version but being handled by synth strings in the long version. The long and short versions appear in the Sound Test as tracks 10 and 20, respectively.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy)[edit]
The arrangement of "Kirby Dance" for the Game Boy version ofKirby's Star Stacker is largely similar to theKirby's Block Ball version, except for the bass line. At the head of each measure, the bass line jumps from D to the G below it, rather than the G above it as is usual.
Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]
Kirby's Dream Land 3 only features the short version of "Kirby Dance", in an arrangement quite similar to the short version inKirby Super Star but with perceptible differences in percussion and note lengths used, as well as a higher-quality soundfont. It appears as the 6th track in the Sound Test.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom)[edit]
The Super Famicom version ofKirby's Star Stacker features a trumpet-heavy arrangement of "Kirby Dance" in A major. This is the first time that the theme featured in aKirby game in a key other than C major.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]
Despite not featuring any dancing from Kirby, theSound Check makes a new arrangement of "Kirby Dance" available as tracks 61 (Long) and 62 (Short).
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]
InKirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, "Kirby Dance" makes an appearance after defeating a boss. This version can be found as track 16 in the game's Sound Room.
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]
Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land rearranges both short and long versions of the theme fromKirby's Adventure with a new soundfont, appearing in the Sound Test as track 14 and 15 respectively. Additionally, when crossing the finish line in theKirby's Air Grind sub-game, an even further abridged version of the theme plays, effectively remixing the first half of the first measure and the second half of the last measure. This shortest version is followed by applause, which plays even in the Sound Test.

- Long version
- Kirby's Air Grind version
Kirby Air Ride[edit]
InKirby Air Ride, "Kirby Dance" is quoted in the openings of both results themes. "Top Ride: Results Screen" features a one-bar version in the vein of theKirby's Dream Land 2 one-bar version (for landing on cloud 4 or 5 in the Goal Game). "Air Ride: Results Screen" uses something closer to the standard short "Kirby Dance" version, and transitions to the rest of the results screen music on its final note. Although the bulk of both tracks are set in E Mixolydian, the "Kirby Dance" portions are in E major. The former track can be unlocked as track 40 in the Sound Test by completing theChecklist objectiveFree Run: LIGHT - Do one lap in under 00:07:50!, while the latter track can be unlocked as track 24 by completing the objectiveMake your lap time's last two digits the same!
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]
The "Kirby Dance" arrangements forKirby & The Amazing Mirror heavily resemble those used inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. They can be unlocked in the Sound Player by collecting the DreamNotes, with the long version being track 21 and the short version being track 22. Additionally, the finish line fanfare arrangement originally created forKirby's Air Grind now plays when Kirby crosses the finish line in theKirby Wave Ride sub-game, again featuring applause.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]
Kirby: Canvas Curse features aggressively electronic arrangements of the short and long "Kirby Dance" versions. The former plays after finishingDash! Jump!, is known as"Clear 2", and appears as track 28 in the Sound Test. The latter plays after completing aBoss Game, is known as"Clear 3", and appears as track 29. In addition, clearing a stage triggers a heavily abridged version along the lines of theKirby's Air Grind/Kirby Wave Ride finish line music, but with an extremely different chord progression (IV-V-iv) ending in dissonance rather than resolving to the tonic (as all previous arrangements do). This version is known as"Clear 1" in the Sound Test, where it is track 27.
Additionally, as part of the finalMedal Swap perk, the player can choose to replace all three arrangements with their "Old School"Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land counterparts. These are largely faithful renditions except for the shortest version used to mark clearing each stage, which no longer features applause as it did in the context ofKirby's Air Grind.
- "Clear 1"
- "Clear 2"
- "Clear 3"
- "Classic Song 1-13"
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]
Kirby: Squeak Squad features short and long versions of "Kirby Dance". The arrangements are not significantly changed from those used inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land andKirby & The Amazing Mirror, although with entirely distinct instrumentation. Both versions can be unlocked in the Sound Room after collecting the HappyNotes, appearing as track 12 and 13 respectively.
Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]
InKirby Super Star Ultra, new arrangements of the long and short versions of "Kirby Dance" play under all the same circumstances as in the original game, as well as inRevenge of the King. The two can be found as tracks 11 and 23 in the Sound Test, respectively.
Additionally, a unique, slightly-altered arrangement of the theme plays in the "Kirby Master!" video.

Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]
Kirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn both have orchestral arrangements of the short and long versions of "Kirby Dance". The short version is used after clearing a stage with aMedal ranked below Gold, while the long version plays after clearing a stage with a Gold Medal or after defeating a boss. In addition, the long version has a variation interrupted byYin-Yarn's return during the game's final boss battle.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
There are four arrangements of "Kirby Dance" inKirby's Return to Dream Land, all of which are unique.
- Two new versions arranged by Hirokazu Ando play during theGoal Game when landing on numbers 7 through 2 (short) and 1 (long) or after clearing aChallenge Stage. The short version is known as"Kirby Dance (Short)", and appears in the original game'sSound Test as track 78 and in the remake's Jukebox as track 19, while the long version is called"Kirby Dance (Long)" and appears in the original game's Sound Test as track 79 and in the remake's Jukebox as track 61.
- An arrangement by Jun Ishikawa, using the same instruments as the SNES and GBA installments, strongly resembling the variation heard inKirby: Squeak Squad, plays after defeating a boss. This arrangement is named"Kirby Dance (Long) - After Boss" and appears in the original game's Sound Test as track 80 and in the remake's Jukebox as track 23.
- An orchestral arrangement by Hirokazu Ando plays during the"Kirby Master!" movie, much like inKirby Super Star Ultra. This version appears in the original game's Sound Test as track 113 and in the remake's Jukebox as track 202.
All of the above arrangements return inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, along with the "Memorial Festival" variation fromKirby Star Allies accompanying theFestival ability's return, which does not appear in the Jukebox.
- "Kirby Dance (Short)" by Hirokazu Ando.
- "Kirby Dance (Long)" by Hirokazu Ando.
- "Kirby Dance (Long) - After Boss" by Jun Ishikawa.
- "Kirby Master!" by Hirokazu Ando.
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]
The shortKirby's Return to Dream Land arrangement plays after clearing a Challenge Stage inNew Challenge Stages inKirby's Dream Collection Special Edition.
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
Kirby: Triple Deluxe features eight distinct variations of the "Kirby Dance" theme, the most of anyKirby game, though only four are unique.
- Two completely new versions, arranged by Hirokazu Ando, play when clearing the Goal Game at numbers 7 through 2 (short, track 036 in theJukebox) and 1 (long, track 037).
- TheKirby's Return to Dream Land versions play after collecting a Grand Sun Stone (long, track 018) and clearing a stage inDedede's Drum Dash (short, track 061).
- The originalKirby's Dream Land version plays when landing on numbers 7 through 1 sequentially in the Goal Game (track 088). A unique short arrangement of the classic theme plays when clearing a round inKirby Fighters (track 051).
- The "Kirby Master!" arrangement fromKirby's Return to Dream Land plays in the Theater movie of the same name (track 130).
- A new short arrangement of the theme by Jun Ishikawa plays on the HOME menu when hovering over the game's icon (track 132).
- "Kirby Dance (short version)" by Hirokazu Ando.
- "Kirby Dance (full version)" by Hirokazu Ando.
- Kirby Fighters version by Jun Ishikawa.
- Sound Logo by Jun Ishikawa.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]
TheStory Mode ofKirby and the Rainbow Curse features short and long versions of "Kirby Dance" after clearing regular stages and boss stages, respectively. The short version (titled"Stage Clear" in the Music Room, where it is track 44) slows down in tempo throughout the last bar, while the long version (titled"Level Clear" in the Music Room, where it is track 54) successively quickens in tempo by around 10% from bar to bar for the first three measures. Applause features at the end of both versions and will loop indefinitely, both in Story Mode and in the Music Room. A variation of"Level Clear" with underwater ambient sounds plays after defeatingThe Claykken inIndigo Ocean andHooplagoon inOrange Woodland.
An additional arrangement of the long version features as part of"Final Transformation!" (track 118 in the Music Room), but is interrupted midway through the third measure. Another shortened version of the theme appears in"Back to Dream Land" (track 120 in the Music Room), this time with a slower, more triumphant ending that also ties into the melody of "The Adventure Begins".
- "Stage Clear"
- "Level Clear"
- "Final Transformation!"
- "Back to Dream Land"
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
Kirby: Planet Robobot reuses the "Kirby Dance" music from three different games:
- The long version fromKirby's Return to Dream Land accompanies Kirby's dance after clearing a boss stage, and is track 031 in theJukebox. The short version accompanies the score tally after each Quest inTeam Kirby Clash, and is track 070 in the Jukebox.
- The versions fromKirby: Triple Deluxe accompany Kirby's dance after the Goal Game for the vast majority of landings. The short and long versions appear in the Jukebox as track 039 and 040, respectively.
- If Kirby lands on clouds 7 through 1 in sequence in consecutive Goal Games, the original Kirby Dance music fromKirby's Dream Land plays. This version is track 056 in the Jukebox.
Also left over in the files is the short version of theKirby's Dream Land theme fromKirby: Triple Deluxe, presumably a leftover from theKirby Fighters sub-game.
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe /Super Kirby Clash[edit]
InTeam Kirby Clash Deluxe andSuper Kirby Clash, the short version of "Kirby Dance" fromKirby's Return to Dream Land reprises its role from the Team Kirby Clash sub-game.
Kirby Battle Royale[edit]
Kirby Battle Royale features fast-paced orchestral short and long versions of the "Kirby Dance" theme at the start of "Results 1" and "Results 2", the music tracks for the battle results and final results screens, respectively. Curiously, the short version is in E major while the long version is in G major, marking this the first time any singleKirby game featured arrangements in multiple keys (and neither in C major). Additionally, "Results 2" is entirely in C major apart from its transposed use of "Kirby Dance".
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
Kirby Star Allies features a new arrangement of the theme when accompanying Kirby's dancing. The short version plays after landing on clouds 7 through 2 in the Goal Game, and is track 028 in theJukebox, while the long version plays after landing on cloud 1 in the Goal Game or after defeating a boss, and is track 017.
During gameplay, two Copy Abilities can cause a version of the "Kirby Dance" theme to play:
- A special samba-inspired arrangement, called "Memorial Festival", accompanies theFestival DanceFriend Ability. This appears as track 128 in the Jukebox.
- If the Souper Supper move is charged for long enough,Cook Kirby will hum the short "Kirby Dance" tune, albeit off key.
As with the prior few mainline games, landing on clouds 7 through 1 in sequence in consecutive Goal Games triggers the original Kirby Dance music fromKirby's Dream Land. This music also accompanies theDream Button unlock notification after clearingThe Ultimate Choice on Soul Melter EX, and appears as track 122 in the Jukebox.
- "Kirby Dance (Short)" byYuuta Ogasawara.
- "Kirby Dance (Long)" by Yuuta Ogasawara.
- "Memorial Festival" by Jun Ishikawa.
- Cook Kirby's humming.
Kirby Fighters 2[edit]
Kirby Fighters 2 has its own arrangement when accompanying Kirby's dance. It's featured after clearing a round like inKirby Fighters and itsDeluxe version.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]
Kirby and the Forgotten Land has its own arrangement of the theme to accompany Kirby's dance. To match the game's "wild" theme, the arrangement prominently features percussive instruments, such as bass marimba, xylophone, and bongos. A short version plays after completing a regular stage, while a long version plays after defeating a boss or at specific story beats. Both themes can be played at theWaddle Live! Corner Stage as tracks 10 and 17 respectively.
Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]
InKirby's Dream Buffet,"Thank You for the Meal!"[5] includes a very short paraphrase of "Kirby Dance", spanning the first seven notes of the melody. The melody itself sounds as if transposed to F-sharp major but ends on G rather than F-sharp, and the arrangement as a whole is more accurately described as being on a D-sharpAeolian dominant scale. No dance accompanies the use of this arrangement on the results screen. This was arranged by the original composer,Jun Ishikawa[6].
Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]
In addition to the versions of the theme from the base game,Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World has a new arrangement of the short version titled"Kirby Dance / Short (Starry Ver.)" that plays at the end of Starry Stages, featuring softer, more traditional instrumentation. It can be found as track 103 atWaddle Live! Corner Stage. This version was arranged byYuki Kato.
Kirby Air Riders[edit]
InKirby Air Riders, a quotation of "Kirby Dance" serves as the opening to "Air Ride: Results" and its Top Ride and City Trial variants, just like inKirby Air Ride. These can be listened to in theMusic Player after purchasing them in theMiles Shop for 280Miles each. The variants that include "Kirby Dance" are as follows:
- "Air Ride: Results" — plays on the results screen ofAir Ride. An arrangement of "Air Ride: Results Screen" fromKirby Air Ride.
- "Top Ride: Results" — plays on the results screen ofTop Ride. Though very similar to "Air Ride: Results", it features the melodic and rhythmic variation in "Top Ride: Results Screen" fromKirby Air Ride.
- "City Trial: Results" — plays on the results screen ofCity Trial. Though very similar to "Air Ride: Results", its instrumentation focuses more on horns and woodwinds.
- "Air Ride: Results"
- "Top Ride: Results"
- "City Trial: Results"
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
In theSuper Smash Bros. series, a remix of this theme usually plays when Kirby (or anotherKirby character) wins.
Super Smash Bros.[edit]
Kirby's victory theme inSuper Smash Bros. is an arrangement of the jingle with orchestra instrumentation. This variation is in the key of A major.
Super Smash Bros. Melee[edit]
Kirby's victory theme inSuper Smash Bros. Melee is an arrangement of the jingle using a live orchestra. This version is slower-paced and exclusively uses brass, featuring trumpet, trombone, French horns, and tuba.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[edit]
InSuper Smash Bros. Brawl, there are two remixes of the jingle. The first one is an orchestral arrangement in the key of G, which uses woodwinds and plucked strings. This version is used forKirby andKing Dedede's victory. The second one is a rock remix in the key of C; this version uniquely lacks the focus on triplets, instead having a straightforward rock beat. This version is used forMeta Knight's victory. These variations are reused forSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[edit]
While also appearing as a victory theme, the jingle also briefly appears as a chiptune arrangement in the "Ice Cream Island" music track.
- The "Kirby Dance" arrangement fromSuper Smash Bros.
- Super Smash Bros. Melee's version of the jingle.
- Meta Knight's variant of "Kirby Dance" fromSuper Smash Bros. Brawl.
- "Kirby Dance" in "Ice Cream Island" fromSuper Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U.
Other appearances[edit]
"Kirby Dance" is arranged at the end of the trackカクテルを作ろう! (Let's Make a Cocktail!) in the JapaneseKirby's Adventure vocal album. The arrangement is a moderate-tempo, gentle, almost completely rewritten melody in A-flat major, and contrasts heavily with the lively original.
Kirby's Star Stacker Original CD Masters, a soundtrack CD ostensibly made to accompany the Game Boy version ofKirby's Star Stacker, features only entirely re-instrumented arrangements of the game's music tracks. This includes track 14, ダンス (Dance), which features two loops of the long version of "Kirby Dance".
The Japanese version of thePink-Collar Blues episode ofKirby: Right Back at Ya! features an extended orchestral arrangement of the short version of the Kirby Dance theme, included inKirby & The Amazing Mirror Sound Plus under the titleワドルディたち (Waddle Dees).
The version of "Green Greens" fromKirby's Adventure is one of the tracks that can be selected inDonkey Konga 3, under the name「星のカービィ 夢の泉の物語」(the Japanese name ofKirby's Adventure). It ends with the long version of "Kirby Dance".
InSuper Mario Maker, the original short "Kirby Dance" jingle fromKirby's Adventure plays when completing a course with anyKirby seriescostume.
"Kirby Dance" was arranged in the style of aneki-melo ortrain melody jingle for theKirby Pupupu Train merchandise event. This arrangement can be found on theKirby Pupupu Train Eki-melo Collection as track 13,クリアダンス/駅メロ Ver. (Clear Dance - Eki-melo Ver.).
The long version fromKirby Star Allies plays near the end of the final Kirby Star Allies Channel video, as well as in the 27th Anniversary video, where near the end of the video, Kirby performs the dance with all of the game'sDream Friends, and the dance ends with confetti and streamers going off. For the exclusive edition of the Kirby and the Goal Door PVC Statue, touching the orange flower on the statue plays the long version from the same game.
The short version fromKirby Star Allies is used as the 1st place jingle at the end of aSuper Kirby Clash Maximus Cup round inTetris 99.
The opening segment of theKirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival, "Green Greens ~ Running Through the New World", closes with a slow-tempo orchestral/big band arrangement of the Kirby Dance theme. Accompanying this is a video compilation of Kirby dancing across thirty years' worth of video games, representing nearly every game (released at the time of the festival) that features the Kirby Dance, with only a number of spin-offs omitted—namelyKirby's Pinball Land,Kirby's Dream Course, the Game Boy version ofKirby's Star Stacker,Kirby: Canvas Curse,Kirby Fighters Deluxe andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn — while also including a non-dance fromKirby's Blowout Blast. Shortly afterwards, while introducing the audience to the glowsticks made for the Festival, Kirby performs the dance and hums the dance tune in a manner similar to the Cook Kirby "arrangement" inKirby Star Allies.
An officially licensedKirby alarm clock by RHYTHM features the1-Up jingle to mark the start of an hour, which is joined by another tune on certain special dates; on Kirby's birthday, April 27th, it features the long version of "Kirby Dance" as well.[7]
The long version of the "Kirby Dance" fromKirby and the Forgotten Land is featured in an officially licensed collection ofKirby sheet music published byYamaha Corporation.[8]
"Kirby Dance" is included on The Sound of Kirby Café - Jazz Style - alongside "Suite: The Star-Conquering Traveler (Closing Movement: The Twinkling Star)" as a part of the medley 微笑みラストダンス (Smiling Last Dance), which was arranged byYuko Komiyama.
- "Kirby Dance" in "Let's Make a Cocktail!" from theKirby's Adventure soundtrack, arranged by Takashi Takaomi and performed by Mako Miyata.
- "Dance" fromKirby's Star Stacker Original CD Masters by Masahito Nakano.
- "Waddle Dees" from the Japanese version ofKirby: Right Back at Ya!.

- "Kirby Dance" in "Smiling Last Dance" fromThe Sound of Kirby Café - Jazz Style -
Trivia[edit]

- An anecdote fromMasahiro Sakurai about the development ofKirby's Dream Land suggests that the music precedes the dance, or at least the rhythm of the dance. Sakurai asked the sound composer (Jun Ishikawa) how long the music was in frames, the response being "I don't know". Sakurai had to play and rewind a cassette tape recording many times to make the dance animation match up with the music.[9]
- Due to its numerous abridged arrangements in the Goal Game,Kirby's Dream Land 2 features the most unique "Kirby Dance" arrangements in a single Kirby game, with six distinct versions. If counting reused arrangements, it's beat byKirby: Triple Deluxe at eight, followed byKirby: Planet Robobot andKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe at five,Kirby's Return to Dream Land at four, andKirby Star Allies also at four (five if counting Cook Kirby's humming).
- According to general directorShinya Kumazaki, the task of arranging the "Kirby Dance" theme is given to new sound staff as a "rite of passage" of sorts.[10]Kirby Star Allies,Kirby and the Forgotten Land, andKirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World all had the "Kirby Dance" theme arranged by composers who were working on the mainline series for the first time (Yuuta Ogasawara,Yuki Shimooka, andYuki Kato, respectively).

Actually, in recent mainline games, we ask the new staff just entering the team at the time for Kirby's dance track. Perhaps a kind of gateway." "While I commented that the dance track is a kind of gateway for composers, it's a difficult track to create. Far from a simple warm-up exercise, it's the first high barrier. Short but deep, with a sound one shouldn't get tired of hearing!"
