This article is about the dance in a general context. For the music that plays with it, seeKirby Dance (theme).

TheKirby Dance is a danceKirby does in most of his games. Kirby's "dance moves" (sprites used in the dance) within the dance may vary between games and scenarios. Mostly in older games where game memory was limited, it is a common tradition to reuse sprites that already have a use elsewhere during the Kirby Dance. Usually, the dance starts whenever Kirby completes a level, but in some games, likeKirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby will only dance under specific circumstances, usually when he defeats aboss. In the games where he does dance regularly, he may create two copies of himself and dance for a longer period of time upon obtaining aStar Rod piece or when he gets the best possible score in theGoal Game, for example.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Dream Land[edit]

InKirby's Dream Land, Kirby will dance whenever he obtains aSparkling Star. However, upon obtaining the final Sparkling Star, Kirby will do a different and much shorter dance, and the normal Kirby Dance jingle will not play.

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

InKirby's Adventure andKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby will dance when he completes theGoal Game or when he obtains aStar Rod piece. Getting to the top platform of the Goal Game or obtaining a Star Rod piece will make Kirby create two copies of himself and dance for a longer period of time, as mentioned earlier.

Kirby's Pinball Land[edit]

Kirby dances for a long amount of time and with two copies after obtaining a Star Rod piece by defeating any ofKirby's Pinball Land's bosses, except forKing Dedede. In addition, every 500000 points that are scored, three Kirbys will perform a dance, but many of the dances are different than a normal Kirby Dance, for example, a dance which includes the three Kirbys jumping over each-other repeatedly, or a dance including the three Kirbys balancing on top of each-other while walking to the left of the screen.

Kirby's Dream Course[edit]

Kirby will dance upon completing every course exceptCourse Dedede inKirby's Dream Course. Kirby will always do the long version and create copies no matter what his score is. In 2-player mode, only the winner will dance, although both Kirby andKeeby will dance if they tie.

Notably,Kirby's Dream Course features an unlockable bonus feature called the "Dance Select", which allows the player to view all of the possible dances in the game from the main menu. This is unlocked by earning Silver or GoldMedals on all Main Game andExtra Game courses. There are eight distinct dances for the 1P Game and five for 2P Game. Of the 2P Game dances, two each depict Kirby or Keeby winning, while the fifth is for draws.

Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

InKirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby will dance after the Goal Game or whenever he defeats a boss, with the exceptions of King Dedede andDark Matter. Kirby will not create copies of himself in the Goal Game no matter how high he gets, but when he defeats a boss (besides the bosses listed above), he will create copies of himself. If Kirby is currently with an Animal Friend, they will not be copied, but will participate in the dance as well.

Notably,Kirby's Dream Land 2 features more variations of the Kirby Dance jingle than any other title in the series, having six in total. Five of them play after the Goal Game, with longer ones playing depending on how high up the player gets in it, while the sixth and longest variation plays after boss fights. Additionally, while it is not generally considered the same type of dance, Kirby can be seen in the pause menu dancing around and generally being active.

Kirby's Block Ball[edit]

InKirby's Block Ball, Kirby will dance whenever he completes a stage, usually below the player's total high score.

Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

InKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra, the Kirby Dance is performed in four out of the eleven modes. In addition, during theKirby Master video inKirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby will do the long version of the dance, but instead of creating copies, twoWaddle Dees join him. It should be noted that in the game modes, if aHelper is currently assisting Kirby, they will also participate. Also, the short version of the dance's jingle sounds different than the long version, and the Kirby Master video plays a different-sounding jingle than the other two versions. However, the only differences between versions (besides the length, of course) is that different instruments are used. The modes the dance is performed in are the following:

Spring Breeze[edit]

Like inKirby's Dream Land, Kirby will do a long dance and create copies whenever he obtains a Sparkling Star inSpring Breeze, except for the star he obtains after defeating King Dedede, where he will do a shorter dance without creating copies. However, unlike inKirby's Dream Land, the Kirby Dance jingle will play.

Dyna Blade[edit]

InDyna Blade, Kirby performs a short dance without creating copies upon completing the Goal Game.

Milky Way Wishes[edit]

InMilky Way Wishes, Kirby performs a short dance without creating copies upon obtaining a Sparkling Star from a planet.

Revenge of the King[edit]

InRevenge of the King, Kirby will perform a long dance with copies after obtaining a Sparkling Star and a short dance without copies after defeating King Dedede. The jingle will once again play after defeating King Dedede.

Kirby's Star Stacker (Game Boy & SNES)[edit]

Once Kirby has completed the last round in one of the difficulties in theRound Clear mode, he will get on hisWarp Star and leave the screen. He then come back with two of his clones, and all three will start dancing.

In the Game Boy version, the Kirby dance sprites are drawn at double the size of Kirby's usual gameplay sprites. According to theKirby's Dream Collection Special Edition booklet, this was done because they could show more detail by using larger graphics.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]

InKirby Tilt 'n' Tumble, the Kirby Dance makes an appearance after defeating a boss and completing stage 4 on every level from 1 to 7. In this game, Kirby will only do the long version of his dance, just like inKirby's Dream Land.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]

InKirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby will dance after defeating every boss except King Dedede, Dark Matter, andZero. If Kirby is controlling an Animal Friend, they will once again dance with Kirby. In this game, Kirby will only do the short version of his dance, and will not create copies.

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

InKirby & The Amazing Mirror, Kirby will dance after obtaining aMirror Shard or after completing a Goal Game. Kirby will dance for a longer period of time when he obtains a Mirror Shard than when he completes a Goal Game. Kirby will not create copies of himself under any circumstances, though he will dance with any of the otherKirby clones who may be present. When all four are together, they can end with a unique pose at the end.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

InKirby: Canvas Curse, the Kirby Dance happens after the Goal Game, and after defeating a boss at the end of each world, but with some differences, since Kirby himself can't dance like he usually does due to being transformed intoa ball. Instead, he'll bounce around while its jingle plays, and in the top screen, five Kirbys in a sepia colored screen will dance normally. A short dance will happen after the Goal Game, no matter the score, and a long dance will always happen after defeating a boss.

Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

InKirby: Squeak Squad, Kirby will dance under two conditions: after completing the Goal Game, and after defeating a boss (with the exception ofDark Daroach andDark Nebula). If Kirby completes a level without getting any treasure, he will dance shortly and create no copies. If he obtains at least one treasure chest, big or small, he will do the long dance. He will also create copies for each treasure chest (excluding the first one). So if he gets one treasure chest, he will create no copies, if he gets two, one copy, and if he gets three, two copies. After the dance is over, Kirby and his copies will each open the treasure chest they appeared next to.

Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]

Kirby andPrince Fluff will dance after the Goal Game inKirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn, and after obtaining a piece of theMagic Yarn. In normal stages, only the short dance is used if the stage is cleared with a Bronze or Silver rank, but a long dance will be used if a Gold rank was obtained. Obtaining a piece of the Magic Yarn will always result in a long dance. Much like in the main series, the dances performed are randomized to an extent, with several involving the use of variousTransformations. Some of these forms are exclusive to the victory dance.

After defeatingYin-Yarn, the two will start a Kirby Dance only to be interrupted at the very end, as Yin-Yarn's needles reveal to be sentient and fly up to use the Magic Yarn to create Mega Yin-Yarn. They are later able to do a complete long dance after defeating Yin-Yarn's final form and sending the needles back toPatch Land.

The following are the possible dance sequences that can be performed by Kirby and Prince Fluff:

• Short sequence: Kirby hops and somersaults over Fluff as Fluff twirls to the side. They then twirl towards each other and end waving, pointing away from each other.
• Long sequences:
  • Kirby and Fluff walk past each other and jump, then hop three times and pound the ground withWeight. They roll towards each other as if in aCannon stance, then leap, twirls around each other and end waving, pointing away from each other.
  • Kirby and Fluff both walk and hop to the right, then the left. Kirby pirouettes, and Fluff bounces on his head in hisyarn ball form. Kirby rubs his head. The two roll away from each other, hop back to the center and pose with a leg in the air.
  • Kirby and Fluff moonwalk away from each other, jump back andcrouch. They twirl towards each other and crouch again. Kirby transforms into aParachute and holds Fluff as if byAngie command. They land far from each other and twirl to the center, then wave pointing away from each other.
  • Kirby and Fluff walk away from each other, then turn intoCars and run and bump into each other, ending in themcrouching. Kirby hops over Fluff's head, then they twirl and end with a twirl and wave.
  • Kirby and Fluff both walk and hop to the right, then the left.Yarn ball Fluff bounces on a parasol-shaped Kirby. They roll and then rejoin to pose pointing down.
  • Kirby and Fluff jump towards each other and twirl away as if skating by inertia, then hop back to the center. They move around as tow trucks, then bounce to the center and point towards the middle of the screen.
• Underwater sequence (Capamari): Kirby and Fluff swim away from each other and transform into anchors. They slowly swim towards each other while changing the direction they face in, then twirl together and pose with their propellers turned up.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

InKirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby, and the other playable characters if present, will dance after completing the Goal Game, after obtaining a piece of theLor Starcutter, and during the Kirby Master video. They will dance for a short period of time after completing the Goal Game if their score is under 1, and dance for a long period of time if their score is 1. They will always dance for a long period of time after any of the two latter conditions are met. Starting with this game, if any character lands on the lowest scoring platform in aGoal Game, said character will end the dance with a saddened look.

Additionally, during the Kirby Master video, along with normal Kirby, King Dedede,Meta Knight, andBandana Waddle Dee, ayellow Kirby will join the dance, which is presumably a copy. Aside from that, Kirby never creates copies during the dance.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

InKirby: Triple Deluxe, once again, Kirby will dance after the Goal Game. If his score is less than 1, he does a short dance, and if his score is 1, he does a long dance. He will not create copies after completing the Goal Game. He will also dance after obtaining a grandSun Stone, and do the long dance, as well as creating copies. Finally, during the Kirby Master video, Kirby does the long version, and is joined by King Dedede.

Kirby Fighters Deluxe /Kirby Fighters 2[edit]

Much like in the originalKirby FightersSub-Game, the winning fighter(s) will perform a victory dance whenever a regular round ends inKirby Fighters Deluxe andKirby Fighters 2.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]

InKirby and the Rainbow Curse, Kirby andElline dance whenever clearing a stage inStory Mode, with a short dance for regular stages, and a longer one after defeating a boss. In the last stage -The Final Battle - Kirby starts a dance after Elline andClaycia are reunited, but this dance is interrupted whenDark Crafter emerges from Claycia's blinders.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

InKirby: Planet Robobot, Kirby will dance after the Goal Game, once again dancing for a long period of time if is score is 1 and a shorter period of time if his score is less than 1, without creating copies in either conditions. He'll dance for a long period of time and create copies when he defeats every boss aside fromMecha Knight+,President Haltmann, andthe final boss.

Kirby Battle Royale[edit]

Whenever a battle is complete inKirby Battle Royale, the winner(s) will perform a short dance on the results screen. At the end of a series of battles, the overall winner(s) will perform a longer dance.

Each character model (Kirby,Waddle Dee,Meta Knight,King Dedede andSleep Kirby) has three unique dances. All three are played in a set sequence at the final results screen, while either the first, second, or third dance is chosen during intermediate results. One may notice that whenever one given character does their first dance, every other character does the same corresponding dance (all celebrating players do their first, second or third dances together regardless of who they are). This was presumably programmed as such to synchronize the dances of players choosing the same character, but then also affects others. For example, when Meta Knight does the dance imitating aShuttle Loop, every other character does a particular dance.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Kirby will dance after the Goal Game inKirby Star Allies, as usual. He'll perform a long dance if his score is 1, and a short dance if his score is less than 1. He'll dance for a long period when he defeats every story mode boss (exceptthe final boss), as well as every boss inHeroes in Another Dimension, dancing for a long period of time. While he never creates copies after either condition is met, he'll dance with any activefriends.Pon & Con will also join in for a dance after beingbefriended. The player's chosen friend will also perform the dance inGuest Star ???? Star Allies Go! after defeatingHyness. Each friend has a unique final pose for the dance.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land /Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]

Kirby will do the short version at the end of each stage. Bandana Waddle Dee andElfilin will each join in if they are present. If the stage ends with rescuing threeWaddle Dees in a cage or threeStarries in a crystal, they will also join in. The long version is performed after freeing Elfilin inPoint of Arrival andLab Discovera, alongside defeating an end-of-area boss. The long version is also performed after initially resurrectingLeongar inForgo Land, in which Leongar also joins in near the end.

Super Smash Bros. series[edit]

In every game in theSuper Smash Bros. series, Kirby performs a variation of his dance whenever he wins a battle, along with the theme. InSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, he will dance with two copies of himself if he is not on a team. A shorter version of the dance is also mapped to his up-taunt inSuper Smash Bros. Brawl and subsequent games (just the final pose inSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate).

Games which do not feature the Kirby Dance[edit]

Kirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]

In theKirby: Right Back at Ya! episodePink-Collar Blues, theWaddle Dees perform the Kirby Dance after defeating theDomestic Servant Robot and being re-hired byKing Dedede.Kirby initially seems to be unaware of this dance, but quickly picks up on it. This is the only time in the anime series that the dance appears in any form.

Trivia[edit]

• The Kirby Dance is very rarely performed after beating a final boss, specially their final forms. Usually, defeating one for once and for all is simply followed by a cutscene, or credits. Notable exceptions to this rule areKirby's Dream Land andKirby's Epic Yarn.
  • Due to that, sometimes Kirby may prematurely start a Kirby Dance, only to be interrupted by the final boss, not yet defeated. Examples includeKirby's Epic Yarn,Kirby: Triple Deluxe,Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, andKirby and the Forgotten Land's Isolated Isles: Forgo Dreams.
• Kirby also danced the Kirby Dance during theKirby 30th Anniversary Music Festival. While introducing the audience to the pen lights provided for the concert, Kirby performed the dance (humming the dance tune somewhat off-key) to cause all of the pen lights to light up Kirby-pink.
