"Kine's Theme"[Japanese title][2] is the musical piece associated withKine which plays wheneverKirby is riding on him through normal stages inKirby's Dream Land 2. It was composed byTadashi Ikegami.[1]

Composition[edit]

Kirby andKine taking a dip withSquishy.

"Kine's Theme" is a somewhat slower-paced and laid-back tune, characterized by the contrast between its steady percussion and its main melody. Its two main verses run in 4/4 time signature, and are equal to each-other in length. Notably, the introductory verse which does not loop in the song is fairly long in and of itself, being half the length of one of the main verses.

Game appearances[edit]

Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

"Kine's Theme" first appeared inKirby's Dream Land 2, along with the character it is named for. The song plays whenever Kirby is paired with Kine while in a standard stage, and overrides the stage's main theme. The song does not play in boss stages,Bonus Chances, orLevel Hubs. It appears as the 9th track in theSound Test

"Happy Mambo" fromKirby's Return to Dream Land byHirokazu Ando.

InKirby's Return to Dream Land andKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, an arrangement of "Kine's Theme" plays in a few stages inOnion Ocean. It has been re-orchestrated, its tempo sped up a little, and a few extra verses have been added. This can be seen as a somewhat odd musical cameo, as Kine himself does not appear in this game outside of aStone transformation.

This version of the song is titled"Happy Mambo". This is a pun on the music genre, themambo, as well as the Japanese name of theocean sunfish (マンボウmanbou), the species which Kine resembles. The song is arranged byHirokazu Ando[3]. It appears in the original'sSound Test as track 26 and in the remake's Jukebox as track 34.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

InKirby: Triple Deluxe, "Happy Mambo" makes a reappearance inWild World - Stage 7 EX and in theJukebox as track 76.

"Swept Out to Sea" fromKirby and the Rainbow Curse.

A calm remix of "Kine's Theme" can be heard inSwept Out to Sea inKirby and the Rainbow Curse. Notably, it has a small new intro, underwater ambient sounds spread during the whole piece, and the main melody is played by a piano. This theme also appears in theMusic Room, once again as track 76.

Other appearances[edit]

"Kine's Theme" can be heard as the second piece of the track "Kirby's Dream Land 2 Animal Friends Medley" from theKirby 25th Anniversary Orchestra Concert. As a medley, it's paired with "Rick's Theme" and "Coo's Theme". Notably, the song is played in a lower key than usual, and primarily focuses on oboes. This version is arranged byShogo Sakai.

A short remix of this theme was featured inKirby Pupupu Train, and it is included on theKirby Pupupu Train Eki-melo Collection under the nameリップルフィールド駅 (Ripple Field Station).

On theKirby 30th Anniversary Site, the original version of the theme plays when viewing Kirby number 13 ("Nakama to Isshoni").
