Hyper Zone is the final level inKirby's Dream Land 3. It is accessed directly after defeatingKing Dedede in theIceberg level, and consists solely of the fight withDark Matter, thenZero in the heart of thedark cloud abovePopstar. It cannot be accessed unless all of theHeart Stars have been collected.
Cutscene[edit]
Atop the tower whereKing Dedede was fought, Kirby assembles all of theHeart Stars while hisAnimal Friends watch on. Once all of them are together, they form theLove-Love Stick. Kirby grabs onto this newly forged weapon, and it carries him into the sky. IfGooey is present in the party (or the cutscene is viewed from theTheater), he also watches as the Love-Love Stick assembles and, once Kirby flies off with it, Gooey transforms into his Mock Matter form with orange petals resembling that of Dark Matter before taking off after Kirby.
Boss: Dark Matter & Zero[edit]

Kirby arrives immediately in the cloud as Dark Matter congeals itself. The fight is a simplified version of the final battle fromKirby's Dream Land 2, with Dark Matter attacking Kirby via two methods. The first is a series of dark lightning bolts, which it will shoot in one of four general directions, each time shooting four bolts at slightly different angles. The second attack has it splitting off the orange fins surrounding it and lobbing them at Kirby. As these attacks are being done, Kirby has to weave and bob while he shoots his heart projectiles at Dark Matter. He can destroy the orange fins by striking them with the Love-Love Stick or its projectiles, however. Gooey can shoot star projectiles at his enemy instead, but cannot destroy the orange fins close to his body.
Once Dark Matter is defeated, it dissipates and explodes. This is immediately followed byZero taking the scene. Zero attacks in a number of different ways. He can shoot out smaller copies of Dark Matter at Kirby, he can ram Kirby, and he can fire blood projectiles at Kirby from either his standard position or from the background. Like before, Kirby can destroy the blood projectiles by striking them with the Love-Love Stick itself, though only with a well-timed direct hit from the weapon itself (which Gooey cannot do).
When Zero loses his main bar ofhealth, the eye separates from the main body in a rather gory display and pursues Kirby in a last-ditch effort to defeat him. Notably, the eye does not target Kirby's actual position, and instead circles around him directly within reach of the Love-Love Stick, meaning that the best strategy is to simply stay put and swing. After a few more hits, the eye explodes, destroying the threat of Dark Matter and its clan for good.
This done, the Love-Love Stick dispels the dark cloud from the sky, andPop Star's rings are restored as shown in the ending cutscene. If Gooey is present, he appears in it alongside Kirby. The credits roll, and the game is complete.
InStory Mode, Hyper Zone has a blue background with black moving clouds, tying in with its nature as a mass of Dark Matter in the skies of Pop Star. InBoss Butch, Hyper Zone has a yellow background with red and blue moving clouds. InVirtual Console releases ofKirby's Dream Land 3, the Boss Butch version of Hyper Zone instead features orange and green clouds, possibly to either make Zero's red projectiles easier to see or to reduce the potential risk of seizures.
