Defeat the giant tire tearing up the road!
— Narrator,Kirby Air Riders

Grand Wheelie is amid-boss and a larger variant of aWheelie. It first appears inKirby's Adventure. The main difference with Grand Wheelie's appearance is its large, pink metallic eyelid. Its design was changed forKirby: Triple Deluxe, where it more closely resembles a Wheelie helper fromKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra.

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

InKirby's Adventure andKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Grand Wheelie is encountered several times. Its main attack is to speed towardsKirby. To damage it, Kirby must attack it with aCopy Ability or wait until it tips over on its side, releasing a smaller Wheelie which can be inhaled and spat back at the large tire. In addition to these attacks, Grand Wheelie also jumps up and down in place on occasion, which does not harm Kirby unless he directly touches it, but may enable the mid-boss to dodge attacks directed at it. When swallowed after its defeat, Grand Wheelie gives Kirby theWheel ability.

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Grand Wheelie reappears inKirby Super Star Ultra, an enhanced remake ofKirby Super Star, as one of the new additions not found in the original game. In this game, it is encountered in theRevenge of the King mode, appearing inCrash Clouds andThe Revenge. It also appears inThe True Arena as part of "True Mid-Boss All-Stars". Grand Wheelie looks and attacks similarly as in itsKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land appearance, the main difference being that the smaller Wheelies it creates now award Kirby the Wheel ability when swallowed.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

After many years of absence, Grand Wheelie reappears inKirby: Triple Deluxe, sporting a new look which features a yellow tire crest and some exhaust pipes, similar to the Helper variant of Wheelie. Its moveset is largely the same as before, though it gains a number of aerial spinning maneuvers as well, which it can do from the background. There is a tougher red variant calledGrand Wheelie DX, appearing inEndless Explosions - Stage 7 EX,Royal Road - Stage 5,Dededetour, andThe True Arena.

The following lists all of Grand Wheelie's attacks inKirby: Triple Deluxe. Attack names are conjectural unless otherwise stated:

Grand Wheelie's attacks inKirby: Triple Deluxe
AttackDescriptionVariants
DashGrand Wheelie charges straight ahead in one direction. If Kirby or King Dedede gets behind it, it stops before hitting the wall. If not, then it leaves behind a star after crashing into the wall.Grand Wheelie DX may feint the dash a couple of times before dashing straight ahead. Other times, it may only do so to position itself for an upcoming attack.
Exhaust SpinGrand Wheelie spins around while kicking up exhaust and slowly moving towards Kirby or Dedede's current position.Grand Wheelie DX, after releasing the exhaust, will continuously spin around much faster while chasing after Kirby or Dedede. It is invincible for the entire duration of the spin after kicking up the exhaust.
Nuts and BoltsGrand Wheelie releases a series of nuts, bolts and screws at Kirby or Dedede. Kirby can inhale and spit them back out.Grand Wheelie normally releases three sets slowly. Grand Wheelie DX normally releases four sets at a bit of a quicker pace.
Rocket StartAttack exclusive to Grand Wheelie DX. Grand Wheelie DX rears back, charges up and then charges forward at a much faster speed than usual. As soon as it slams into the wall, it drops behind two nuts, bolts and/or screws, and is left dazed for a short time.
3D DownshiftGrand Wheelie turns on its side, spins around while moving near the top of the screen and then charges diagonally down towards Kirby or Dedede's current position. This attack only gets used once Grand Wheelie loses enough health.Grand Wheelie DX, after charging diagonally down and to the ground, will bounce off of it and then charge to ground level a second time.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]

Grand Wheelie'sField Event inKirby Air Riders.
Grand Wheelie's roaring down the road!
— Kirby Air Riders, in-game Field Event description

InKirby Air Riders, Grand Wheelie appears as part of afield event inCity Trial and challenges inRoad Trip, using its design fromKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. It is one of three bosses that appear inSkyah, alongsideKracko andDyna Blade. It encircles the city for a limited time after it appears, occasionally breaking up its pattern by cutting through the intersections instead, and will randomly choose to move clockwise or counterclockwise. Aside from running over riders in its wake, it lacks any other form of offense. Grand Wheelie will release a small number ofPatches when attacked, and will reward many more upon defeat. While it poses little threat on its own, closing in on Grand Wheelie can be a dangerous gambit; many different riders are likely to concentrate on scoring as many hits as possible, and getting caught in the crossfire can prove fatal. In Road Trip, several challenges revolve around KO'ing Grand Wheelie before the time limit expires.
