"Grand Doomer"[2] is a boss theme that debuted inKirby's Return to Dream Land. It is a techno-style track associated mainly with the boss battle againstGrand Doomer, and is composed byHirokazu Ando.
Composition[edit]

"Grand Doomer" is composed in E Locrian mode in a 4/4 time signature, and is a fast-paced theme making use of techno instrumentation mixed with electric guitars to present a more finale-like and otherworldly setting forGrand Doomer's boss battle. The intro features ambience sounds that slowly shift and mix in an otherworldly fashion before going straight to the intro. Notably, one part of the song uses a repeating set of notes sounding similar to "Mid-Boss Battle" before repeating the main melody with different percussion lines. Some subtle but dissonant piano sounds are also used throughout the song as well.
Game appearances[edit]

This theme debuts inKirby's Return to Dream Land as the battle music for the first phase ofGrand Doomer's boss battle inStage 6 ofNutty Noon. It plays throughout the fight untilKirby getsUltra Sword, after which it will switch to "Ultra-Super Boss Battle" for the rest of the battle. "Grand Doomer" is also used for the first phase ofHR-D3's boss battle inExtra Mode andThe True Arena. The track can be found as music 45 in theSound Test.

Super Kirby Clash[edit]
"Grand Doomer" features a new electronic remix inSuper Kirby Clash, used in the Toughest-rank quests againstGreater Doomer. It is somewhat identical to the original track, except it has new layers of instrumentation over it, such as new electronic percussion lines, orchestra hits and strings. Some parts of the song feature an underlying choir, and the second half of the song has been greatly expanded as well.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
InKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, a remastered version of the original theme is reused as the battle music for the first phase ofGrand Doomer's boss battle inStage 6 ofNutty Noon, and the first phase ofHR-D3's boss battle inExtra Mode andThe True Arena. It can be found as track 52 in theJukebox.
Exclusive toMagolor Epilogue: The Interdimensional Traveler is a heavy arrangement of "Grand Doomer" known as"Another Domination", which is fittingly used in the fight againstCrowned Doomer. It starts off with a long intro featuring synths, and adds heavy mechanical sounds (which resemble the sound of turning cogwheels) in addition to intense electronic instrumentation. Afterwards, it goes straight to the track's main melody, which is further arranged and expanded upon. This arrangement can be found as Track 183 in the Jukebox. It is arranged byKiyoshi Hazemoto,[3] and as such this song has white notes when played in the Jukebox.
Other appearances[edit]
"Grand Doomer" can be found as track 25 inKirby Wii Music Selection, where it is paired along with "You Got... a Part Sphere?" as well as sounds from Grand Doomer's pre-battle cutscene, otherwise unchanged.
Trivia[edit]
- The music is labeled
b_machine01in the game files. This would suggest it was originally designed for a mechanical boss, which would reflect its appearance in HR-D3's fight.
