Reason: Missing specific rewards forKirby: Planet Robobot andKirby Star Allies

TheGoal Game is a smallSub-Game that takes place at the end of non-boss stages in all mainlineKirby titles starting withKirby's Adventure (exceptKirby and the Forgotten Land), as well as some spin-off titles. In this game,Kirby has an opportunity to obtain bonuses, from simple points to helpful items such asFood and1-Ups. The nature of the game varies depending on the title it appears in, but the premise is usually the same, to have the player press the A button (or other button, as appropriate) at the right time to obtain the desired bonus.

Appearances[edit]

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Reaching the top floor of the Goal Game inKirby's Adventure.
Time your jump off the platform (press the A button) to make Kirby jump as high as possible. If you time your jump perfectly, you can make Kirby jump to the highest cloud where you will be rewarded with an extra life (1-Up).
— Goal Game description from theKirby's Adventure instruction booklet, page 22.

The Goal Game debuted in this title. Here, Kirby is dropped onto a spring, and must release at an appropriate time to jump as high as possible. There are seven different layers of clouds that Kirby can land on, with higher layers providing better bonuses. Layer 6 provides 100 points, layer 5 provides 300 points, layer 4 provides 800 points, layer 3 provides 2,000 points, layer 2 provides 5,000 points, and the top layer provides1-Ups instead, delivered by another Kirby with theUFO ability. After landing on a platform, Kirby will dohis signature dance, doing a longer one if he lands on the highest platform.

Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

Kirby andRick in theKirby's Dream Land 2 Goal Game.
After each stage, Kirby will jump and land on a bonus cloud. Press the A button at the right time to get better items.
— Goal Game description from theKirby's Dream Land 2 instruction booklet, page 18.

The Goal Game inKirby's Dream Land 2 is largely the same as the one inKirby's Adventure, though Kirby will also smash into enemies and collect some items along the way. In order from lowest to highest, assuming a perfect performance, Kirby will defeat aBronto Burt,Broom Hatter andWaddle Dee before collecting anEnergy Drink,Star Piece,Maxim Tomato and1-Up.

There is a secret technique inKirby's Dream Land 2's Goal Game: By pressing ↑↓↑ + A before landing on the bonus cloud, Kirby will perform a super jump that always lands on the 1st platform.

Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Screenshot of the start of the goal game inKirby Super Star.
After each stage is completed, you'll play a bonus game. When the meter is full, press any button to launch Kirby. The type of reward you receive will depend on how far you launch Kirby.
— Bonus Chance description from theKirby Super Star instruction booklet, page 19.

The Goal Game here is only playable in theDyna Blade portion ofKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra. Here, three Kirbys man a cannon aimed toward the right. Firing it at the appropriate time - marked by a meter above the cannon - causes Kirby to shoot out, smashing into enemies along the way. The rewards Kirby receives are determined by the distance covered, which is marked by seven signs on the path. Initially, Kirby will receive a point bonus of incrementally increasing value, until reaching a maximum of 10,000 points right before crossing the 5th sign. Any distance between the 5th and 7th signs will reward Kirby with a1-Up, while any distance beyond the 7th sign will reward Kirby with three1-Ups instead.

Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]

The Goal Game for Stage 1 of Grass Land.
At the end of a stage, you'll have the chance to grab a helpful item. Press the B button to jump. If you jump just right, you may get something useful!
— Goal Game description from theKirby's Dream Land 3 instruction booklet, page 31.

In this title, Kirby stands to the left of a walkway, under which are various items. Kirby has to time his jump to land on a particular section of the walkway, in order to obtain the item directly beneath that section. Some of the items are duds, however, rewarding nothing.

IfGooey is playing, he can also play this game with Kirby. If they land on two different spots, they will obtain both items.

There is also a specialSub-Game calledJumping which is based on the Goal Game. Here, Kirby has to land on safe spots on the board in succession. If he lands on a spot with aTick under it at any point, the game ends.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]

Main article:Bonus Game

This Goal Game is similar to the one inKirby's Dream Land 3, but instead involves a picnic, where Kirby has to jump to obtain a particular item on the mat. Kirby has to make two adjustments here, first to aim his jump, then again to determine how far to jump. If he does not land on an item, he will cry and obtain no bonus.

Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]

While not quite a separate game, there is a little strategy that can be employed when landing on the goal pad at the end of every stage (aside from boss stages) inKirby Tilt 'n' Tumble. The goal pad resembles a blue dartboard, with an outer white square with fourSparkling Stars in the corners. Kirby immediately finishes the stage when he touches any part of this pad, but he will earn the following bonuses based on where he lands, as follows:

  • Outside of circle: 800 points
  • Outer portion of circle: 1600 points
  • Middle portion of circle: 3200 points
  • Inner portion of circle: 6400 points
  • Bullseye:1-Up (Kirby also shouts "Yatta!")

Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

Kirby rides his Warp Star in the Goal Game forKirby & The Amazing Mirror.
Hop on a Warpstar and beat the Goal Games! A Goal Game begins shortly after you catch the Warpstar.
— Goal Game description from theKirby & The Amazing Mirror instruction booklet, page 22.

InKirby & The Amazing Mirror, the Goal Game is reached through specific doorways in each large area of the world. From here, Kirby (and also possibly his clones) jump onWarp Stars and then fly through a vertical shaft of clouds. In this shaft are various items that Kirby will need to steer into to collect, along with obstacles that can cause him to momentarily lose control. The flight continues until the timer runs out, at which point Kirby lands on a cloudy platform and does his dance. From there, Kirby always returns to theCentral Circle.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

Gameplay of Dash! Jump! fromKirby: Canvas Curse.
Main article:Dash! Jump!

InKirby: Canvas Curse, the Goal Game is known asDash! Jump!. Kirby or any other character ball must increase their speed with severalTouch Dashes, then use a ramp drawn using theRainbow Lines to make a big jump and land a certain distance (measured in inches). For every 100 inches, Kirby will get 10Point Stars, and a longer distance will net Kirby even more, as well as giving him1ups.

Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

The Goal Game ofKirby: Squeak Squad.
Once you reach a goal, a goal game will begin. Kirby's inside the rotating cannon, so aim for a target and press A, B, X, or Y to send him flying. If Kirby passes through an item, it's his! In this way, you can fill up Kirby's life gauge, and even increase the number of lives Kirby has left.
— Goal Game description from theKirby: Squeak Squad instruction booklet, page 20.

This Goal Game consists of a spinningCannon that Kirby is dumped into. On each firing line is a platform, some of which have bonus items on them. Kirby has to fire at the right time to obtain the desired bonus. The speed of the cannon is randomized every time, where it may rotate at a slow or fast speed, affecting the timing needed to obtain the desired item.

Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]

Kirby makes the bell toll.
Swing from the Bonus Bell at the end of a stage to finish that stage. You will spin the wheel to win bonus beads based on the number of Bonus Stars the wheel lands on.
— Bonus Bell description from theKirby's Epic Yarn instruction booklet, page 16.

This Goal Game consists of a spinning wheel with sections containing various numbers of stars on them (depending on how manyBonus Stars were collected beforehand), a ticker at the top, and a bell in the middle, referred to as theBonus Bell. Ringing the bell causes the wheel to spin slower and slower, until coming to a stop. Landing the ticker on a particular section awards Kirby andPrince Fluff a number ofbeads proportional to the star count multiplied by 100. The wheel makes a little over a full rotation once it is stopped, though the dividers between each section can cause the ticker to stick in one section if the wheel is moving slowly.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Proceed all the way to the end of a stage, and you will clear it (a boss battle will be waiting for you at the end of each level's boss stage). After clearing the stage, a goal game will begin. Press 2 to launch yourself skyward. You will earn a prize based on how high you soar, so take care when timing your button press!
— Goal Game description from theKirby's Return to Dream Land instruction booklet, page 10.

This Goal Game is practically identical to the one fromKirby's Adventure. However, instead of points and 1-Ups, Kirby and his companions are awarded Point Stars instead. Up to four players can take part in this Goal Game simultaneously, on their own sections of platforms. Landing on the lowest platform yields no result and has the character that lands on it become saddened after theKirby Dance. Reaching layer 6 yields 1 Point Star, layer 5 yields 3, layer 4 yields 5, layer 3 yields 10, layer 2 yields 15, and the highest layer results in 30 Point Stars.

Additionally, ifHelper Magolor is enabled inKirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe,Magolor will appear to give all players 1-3food items depending on how well they performed.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

Press A to stop the power gauge. Try to stop it when it's as full as possible—the fuller it is, the farther Kirby will fly. The items you receive will depend on the distance Kirby flies.
— Goal Game description from theKirby: Triple Deluxe instruction manual, page 10.

The Goal Game in this title resembles the one fromKirby Super Star, but functions more like the one inKirby's Return to Dream Land. Kirby is placed into a cannon and is fired into the background, colliding with aerial enemies along the way. The Point Star distribution is unchanged fromKirby's Return to Dream Land, but landing on platforms 4 or 3 now also yields two regularfood items, while platform 2 rewards three food items. Landing on the farthest spot nets Kirby aMaxim Tomato and aKeychain in addition to the usual bonuses.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]

The Goal game inKirby and the Rainbow Curse is a roulette wheel.
At the end of each stage is a roulette wheel featuring different items. Use a rainbow rope to guide Kirby to the item you want. You'll receive that item and clear the stage.
— Goal Game description from theKirby and the Rainbow Curse instruction manual, page 9.

At the end of each non-boss stage is a roulette wheel of eight spinning orbs containing various items. Kirby has to collide with one of the orbs in order to obtain the bonus inside. Bonuses includePoint Stars,1-Ups and entries for theSecret Diary.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

Press A to stop the power gauge. Try to stop it when it's as close to full as possible to make Kirby fly farther. The items you receive depend on how far Kirby flies.
— Goal Game description from theKirby: Planet Robobot manual, section 14.

This Goal Game is largely the same as the one inTriple Deluxe, but features a new aesthetic, as well as different enemies to collide with on the way.

Kirby Star Allies[edit]

Tip image of the Goal Game inKirby Star Allies
Press A when you reach your lowest point to jump as high as possible.
— in-game tip fromKirby Star Allies

The goal game in this title is very similar to the one inKirby's Return to Dream Land, albeit with a few changes. Firstly, instead of using a cloud trampoline, Kirby and his friends utilize a stone platform held up by aPopon, which turns magenta if the timing is perfect. Second, only human-controlled friends get their own separate platforms, withCPU friends sharing with the human players. Third, reaching the top spot after the jump nets the participant aPicture Piece.

If the Goal Game separates the players into two or more teams (which happens if more players join the game), it is possible to get a Team Bonus if the players land on the same platform, netting them morePoint Stars.

Profiles[edit]

Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

  • 3DS Virtual Console manual bio: "In the bonus areas that follow stages, Kirby has a chance to collect extra points and items. Wait for Kirby to jump down onto a bonus cloud, then press A to make Kirby jump. The higher you jump, the better your reward; timing a jump carefully is the key to success here."

Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

  • Instruction manual bio (page 23): "There is a goal game at the end of every stage in Dyna Blade. Press A, B, X, or Y when the gauge is full to send Kirby shooting out of the cannon. You will receive a reward based on how far he flies."

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]

  • Instruction manual bio (page 10): "Press A to stop the power gauge. Try to stop it when it's as full as possible—the fuller it is, the farther Kirby will fly. The items you receive (page 13) will depend on the distance Kirby flies."

Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]

  • Instruction manual bio (page 14): "Press A to stop the power gauge. Try to stop it when it's as close to full as possible to make Kirby fly farther. The items you receive (p. 16) depend on how far Kirby flies."

Trivia[edit]

The balloons found in the Goal Game that seem to referenceMarx.
  • In some titles, namelyKirby's Adventure (and its remake, but not the 3D Classics version),Kirby's Return to Dream Land (and its remake)[1],Kirby: Triple Deluxe,[2]Kirby: Planet Robobot,[3] andKirby Star Allies[4], there is a special bonus for landing on each platform in sequence (from 7 to 1) in 7 consecutive Goal Games. Doing so nets Kirby 30 1-Ups.
    • Uniquely, when this is done inKirby: Triple Deluxe,Kirby: Planet Robobot, andKirby Star Allies, the original version of "Kirby Dance" fromKirby's Dream Land will play alongside the Kirby Dance.
    • If multiple players perform this secret inKirby Star Allies to receive a Team Bonus, every player will receive their own set of 30 1-Ups, up to a potential maximum of 120 1-Ups.[5]
  • When landing on the top spot in single player mode only of theKirby Star Allies Goal Game, it is possible to see two balloons tied together with a bow that bear an uncanny resemblance toMarx's hat.
  • Starting fromKirby's Return to Dream Land, if a character lands on the lowest scoring platform in a Goal Game, said character will look disappointed after theKirby Dance is finished.
