Galactic Nova Nucleus

Galactic Nova Nucleus (originally called theHeart of Nova) is the penultimateboss ofMilky Way Wishes inKirby Super Star, and itsNintendo DS remake,Kirby Super Star Ultra. This boss fight takes place insideGalactic Nova, faced at the end of theeponymous stage in Milky Way Wishes, and is battled again inThe Arena.
The last phase ofStar Dream Soul OS, the final boss ofThe True Arena inKirby: Planet Robobot, is directly inspired by the Galactic Nova Nucleus fight, having Kirby battle a heart-shaped object after destroying the pillars surrounding it. Galactic Nova's heart (simply referred to as "Galactic Nova") also reappears as the true final boss ofRoad Trip inKirby Air Riders, this time fought usingLeo, and the heart also appears the end of theGalactic NovaAir Ride course.
Battle[edit]
After using theStarship to fly throughthe beginning area of the stage, Kirby comes across a big metal chamber with a giant heart-shaped object floating in some kind of central axiom, though he never interacts with this object directly. Instead, Kirby flies around the edge of the chamber, shooting at odd shapes suspended between metal pillars. These pillars move automatically toward and/or away from Kirby, and he will take damage if he collides with them, so he must try to blow the shapes out of the pillars to allow safer passage through.
There are eight total pillars, and Kirby engages each of them in an auto-scrolling fight. Each pillar has a differing-width gap inset, with different shapes that have differing amounts of HP. Kirby must destroy the shapes in all of the pillars to defeat the boss. Notably, the nature of the scrolling screen changes depending on how many pillar shapes have been destroyed: Destroying two causes the screen to scroll faster, destroying four makes it scroll faster still, and destroying five makes the screen scroll backward after a brief slowdown.
