"Freezing Temple" is an ice stage theme fromKirby's Return to Dream Land. It was composed byJun Ishikawa.[1]
Composition[edit]
"Freezing Temple" is a rather wistful piece in G major and 4/4. It prominently features a theremin, modified to resemble a whistle or wind and in itself illustrating theaurora borealis prominent in the visuals. It starts with basic harmonies and a melody that slowly reaches up (an octave) and down. Once the melody concludes and sets the key, a stronger percussive accompaniment backs up the melody, which repeats over and over, first with the same whistling theremin, followed by a more classical one. Before this finishes with a hopeful major resolution, the higher-pitched, whistling sound plays a sadder, descending minor variation of the melody. It modulates through several distant tonalities before abruptly returning to G major and looping.
