Flight of Azure

"Flight of Azure"[2] is a musical track composed forKirby: Planet Robobot byHirokazu Ando.[1]
Composition[edit]

The original theme, set in C major, starts with the primary phrase of "The Noble Haltmann", but in double time and with adjusted note timings. Whereas the original and "Venturing into the Mechanized World", the other prominent rearrangement of "The Noble Haltmann" inKirby: Planet Robobot, mutate the main phrase (to rise to G instead of ending the measure on D) on its second invocation, "Flight of Azure" only does this on the third invocation.
Further elaboration on "The Noble Haltmann" motif is then followed by repetitions of the same phrase, but modulating through keys of G#, B, and E (up through the first inversion of an inverted E triad), before transitioning back into C major. The main melody then hits descending C and D triads before one final repetition of the primary "Haltmann" phrase before the loop point.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
"Flight of Azure" serves as the theme forRobobot Armor'sJet Mode, andde facto as a stage theme for stages that prominently feature Jet Mode (Resolution Road - Stage 2,Gigabyte Grounds - Stage 4). It also plays in the rest area ofThe Arena for the first five bosses. It appears as track 034 in theJukebox, and the 16th track on theKirby: Planet Robobot Original Soundtrack.
"Flight of Azure" is one of the major variations of "The Noble Haltmann" and serves as the basis of or appears in several themes, many of which are associated with Kirby and the Robobot Armor. All of the themes listed below were likewise composed by Hirokazu Ando:
- "First Contact" — music for the opening cutscene, track 002. The third phrase of "Flight of Azure" plays in its intro section along with the variation of "The Noble Haltmann" from "Haltmann Works Co. HQ".
- "Rhythm Route" — the hub world theme forRhythm Route and track 042, a slow and shortened E-flat major version of "Flight of Azure".
- "Outlaw Driver" — theme forWheel Mode, track 044; has the triple repition structure of "Flight of Azure" with a distinct rhythm as its intro section.
- "Final Takeoff" — theme for the Robobot Armor scanning theHalberd in the cutscene "Please...Get Him...!", track 090. A further arrangement of "Outlaw Driver" with a similar intro.
- "Planet Heart" — the ending cutscene's theme, track 098; its first section is based on "Flight of Azure" in the rhythm from "Outlaw Driver", which eventually transitions to "Green Greens".
- "Memories (I'll Never Forget You)" — thestaff credits theme, track 099. It expands on "Flight of Azure" with the inclusion of elements from "Venturing into the Mechanized World", as well as its own variation on "The Noble Haltmann" motif.
Other appearances[edit]
The original track features inKirby's Blowout Blast when viewing statues of Kirby in Robobot Armor and ofSusie in the Plaza, only available if the 3DS console hasStreetPass data forKirby: Planet Robobot.
The 12th and final track ofThe Sound of Kirby Café, "Café De Planet / Pink Ball Activate! ~ The Noble Haltmann" (again composed by Hirokazu Ando), is ostensibly mostly an arrangement of "The Noble Haltmann". However, for the middle third of the track, the arrangement mostly borrows elements from "Flight of Azure", including modulation of the primary phrase up through an inverted triad and the particular resolution of the primary phase. It is set in the same key of C as both "The Noble Haltmann" and "Flight of Azure".
