Fire
- This article is about theCopy Ability Fire, and should not be confused with theBurning ability, a similar fiery ability that was once called Fireball.
- This article is about the Copy Ability. For the course inTop Ride, seeFire (course). For the item inKirby Air Ride, seeFire (item).
Fire is aCopy Ability which empowers the user to breathe a cone of flame from their mouth, which can be used to fight enemies, light things on fire, such asfuses, candles, or foliage, or break things made of ice. The range on the fire breath tends to be middling at best, but in some games, it can be extended and angled while held down. InKirby Super Star and games that follow in its legacy, Fire has access to many other fiery attacks, such as igniting into a fireball (similar to theBurning ability), spinning in a fiery pinwheel along the ground, or even turning the user into a big pyre. InKirby Star Allies, FireKirby can also empower some of hisallies with the "Sizzle"Power Effect.
Fire is one of the oldest Copy Abilities, making its debut inKirby's Adventure. When possessing the Fire ability, the user sports a golden tiara with a green jewel embedded in it. Bright orange flames emerge from the headgear, and in a handful of older titles, Kirby's color slightly changes, making him red. The Fire ability can typically be obtained from enemies likeHot Head,Burning Leo,Galbo, orFlamer (when they don't provide Burning instead).
Characteristics[edit]

Fire is among the most elemental and ubiquitous abilities. In its simplest form, it allows the user to breathe fire from his mouth to deter opponents, thaw out ice, and light thefuses ofcannons. While using this fire breath, the user is forced to hold still, and naturally it cannot be used underwater (a restriction that is not beholden toBurning Leo, one of Fire's main representatives andhelpers). In later games, particularly those that followKirby Super Star's example, Fire would be given a much more versatile moveset, incorporating the fireball ofBurning among other more specialized attacks. The main fire breath ability would also be upgraded, allowing the user to angle and direct their fire breath to an extent. Fire would also be given more utility in later games, with the addition of environmental features that can be burned away such as tall grass and dark areas that can be momentarily lit up using the ability. Being an elemental ability, Fire can be readily combined with other abilities and allies to create potent combinations, particularly inKirby Star Allies.
Fire can be obtained from a wide array of sources, but by far the most common is the enemyHot Head, who debuted alongside the Fire ability itself inKirby's Adventure. Other common sources of the ability include the aforementioned Burning Leo,Galbo, andFlamer (in appearances where Burning is not a distinct ability).
Appearance[edit]
Ever since its introduction inKirby Super Star, Fire's hat has had a consistent design in most media: a golden tiara made of two crossed laces on each side, with a green round gem in its middle, with flames coming out of it. InKirby Air Ride (in-game),Kirby and the Forgotten Land andKirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World only, the gem is blue instead. InKirby: Right Back at Ya!, the hat is similar, but instead of being a tiara, it is a headband similar to Ice's and Spark's hats. The gem is still green, but is hexagonal shaped instead.
When with Fire, Kirby's body changes to red inKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra, as well as inKirby: Right Back at Ya! and its trophy fromSuper Smash Bros. Brawl.

Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

Fire first appears inKirby's Adventure, the game which introduced Copy Abilities, and also appears in its remake,Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. Absorbing aHot Head allows Kirby to breathe fire at his enemies, defeating them at short range. In these games, Fire is distinct fromBurning, which has Kirby rocketing forward as a fire ball instead. Fire deals 5 damage in this title.[1]
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

InKirby Super Star and the game's remake,Kirby Super Star Ultra, Kirby can obtain the Fire ability throughCopy Essences, theCopy Essence Deluxe on PlanetHotbeat, or inhaling fiery enemies, notablyBurning Leo. With the Fire ability equipped, Kirby can create a Burning Leo as aHelper. These games did not feature the Fire ability's counterpart Burning, but instead included moves associated with Burning into the Fire ability. Therefore, Kirby is not only able to breathe fire at enemies, but to engulf himself in flames and charge forward as well.

Kirby Air Ride[edit]
Fire is one of the Copy Abilities which racing Kirbys can use inKirby Air Ride. When acquired, Kirby is able to spit fire balls which land on the course and remain as conflagrations which can trip up racers who ride over them for a short time. He will also damage any racers or enemies he comes in contact with. Like other abilities in this game, Fire only lasts for a short while before disappearing. Its main provider in this game isHeat Phanphan.
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]

InKirby & The Amazing Mirror, Fire appears as an ability distinct from Burning once again, working like its appearance inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, although this time Kirby can slightly aim the direction of his fire with the Control Pad, like inKirby Super Star. It is once again mainly provided by Hot Head. On occasion,Dark Mind's red stars will also provide the Fire ability as well.
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]
Fire makes a return inKirby: Squeak Squad, this time without Burning accompanying it. As such, it is provided by Hot Head,Acchi, and Flamer (who previously provided Burning). Fire also inherits Burning's attack, making this appearance of Fire similar (though simpler) than itsKirby Super Star equivalent. Collecting theAbility Scroll for Fire allows Kirby to angle his fire breath up and down while using it. In this game, Fire can be used to melt certain types of metal blocks.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]

Fire reappears as an ability inKirby's Return to Dream Land and its remake,Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, where it is obtained by inhaling fiery enemies such as Hot Heads, Flamers, and Galbos. It can also be obtained from rocks launched by the volcanoes inDangerous Dinner. The Fire ability is required to light some fuses and launch Kirby from cannons to secret areas of stages, which may provideEnergy Spheres. Asuper version of the Fire ability - calledMonster Flame - also exists, and can be obtained by inhaling aSuper Hot Head.
Notably, Fire is now capable of breakingmetal blocks using the "Burn" technique, which was not possible in previous games that had that move in Fire Kirby's toolkit.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
Fire returns inKirby: Triple Deluxe, functioning almost identically to the way it did inKirby's Return to Dream Land. However, it lacks Spinning Fire Breath and Burning Flame, though gaining two new moves: Fireball Jump and Searing Burn in their place. Starting from this game onward, Fireball Spin and all related moves are now multi-hitting moves. Like inKirby's Return to Dream Land, the ability can be obtained from Hot Heads and Flamers, and it can now also be obtained from theFlame Galborosmid-boss and various boss attacks such asPyribbit's flaming rocks.
Fire Kirby also appears as a collectiblekeychain, using his sprite fromKirby Super Star Ultra.

When combined with theRobobot Armor, it results in a powerfulFire Mode which can shoot massive flamethrowers and leave conflagrations on the ground.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]
Fire returns as an ability inKirby Star Allies, provided by Burning Leo, who also represents the ability as aFriend. Fire provides theSizzle effect to certain other abilities, and can also be used in conjunction withCleaning orWing to performRising Sizzler. Fire also deals bonus damage when used against certain foes, such asPuppet Waddle Dee,Blizzard Guard,Whispy Woods and his relatives, andFrancisca. Using Fire in conjunction with theFriend Star is also required to defeatGrand Mam in theStory Mode.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land /Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]

Fire Kirby appears inKirby and the Forgotten Land andKirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World. He can use his fire breath to lightLantern Switches which can make items appear in a similar manner to breaking aBomb Block. He can also now gradually burnmid-bosses andbosses by continuously attacking them, dealing small amounts of damage to them over time, with the effects lasting longer and becoming more intense the more fire is used on them. Flames produced by Fire can also stay on the ground or another surface, and damage enemies that run into them. With the right materials, Kirby can go toWaddle Dee's Weapons Shop andevolve the ability intoVolcano Fire andDragon Fire.

Kirby Air Riders[edit]
Fire appears inKirby Air Riders, functioning much like how it did inKirby Air Ride: the user is able to shoot balls of fire that leave behind fire pillars and damage foes who get in contact with them. New toKirby Air Riders, however, is a dash much like the Burning move that is activated via a Quick Spin. Boost Charging while holding down on the control stick will also drop a pillar of fire behind the user. Like all Copy Abilities in the game, any playable character is able to use it, not just Kirby. It is given by a new enemy calledBurnbon.
Super Smash Bros. series[edit]
In theSuper Smash Bros. series, Kirby can use his Burn tackle as his dash attack inSuper Smash Bros. Melee andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate, though it could be argued that this is a use of Burning instead. Fire Kirby also appears as atrophy inMelee,Super Smash Bros. Brawl, andSuper Smash Bros. for Wii U.

| “ | After inhaling an attack, Kirby can transform himself! Kirby has now become...Fire Kirby! | ” | — Meta Knight, inKirby Comes to Cappy Town |
InKirby: Right Back at Ya!, the Fire ability is the first to be showcased, and is among the most commonly-appearing abilities in the series. True to the games, Fire Kirby's primary power is the ability to breathe a steady stream of fire from his mouth, which can be used to easily fell most foes, even those who are already fire-based. The only entities that Fire Kirby is completely ineffectual against are themonsterFlame Feeder—who grows stronger from all sources of heat,Lobzilla—who counters with its own ice breath, andeNeMeE himself—who absorbs the fire breath into his cloak. Unlike in the games, Fire Kirby's powers are limited, as the fire emanating from his hat will gradually shrink and eventually disappear completely the more he uses the ability.
InCartoon Buffoon,King Dedede attempts to place himself in the role of Kirby in the cartoon, even going so far as to give himself the Fire ability. When Meta Knight is urged to say his line on the matter, he balks, noting that even he "would never say that". InFossil Fools - Part II, the monsterKirbysaurus - made from Kirby's DNA - also momentarily gains the Fire ability.

In theKirby novel series[edit]

| ||||||||||||||||
In theKirby novel series, Fire is a recurringCopy Ability in the first volumes. It is also the first Copy Ability to be introduced to this series. Throughout the series,Kirby has obtained the Fire ability fromBurning Leo,Fire Lion, and aCopy Essence. This Copy Ability appears inKirby and the Dangerous Gourmet Mansion?!,Kirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods!,Kirby Meets the Squeak Squad!,Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Start Running to the New World!, andKirby: Snowy Mountain Nights are Eventful!. In addition to fighting, Kirby has also used this Copy Ability to cook a cake of his, and made use of the glowing hat he gains to navigate a dark area.
InKirby and the Dangerous Gourmet Mansion?!, after Burning Leo destroys the stove that Kirby set up, Kirbyinhales him to obtain the Fire ability. Kirby then gets out the cake he had been preparing for the party, and uses his fire breath to bake it. After he finishes the cake, he tries a bite of it. Due to his terrible choice of ingredients, Kirby reacts by running around in havoc while spewing a large fireball. He then trips on a stone and loses his ability, which releases Burning Leo.
InKirby and the Big Panic in Gloomy Woods!, Fire makes a brief appearance late in the story. When Kirby,King Dedede, andMeta Knight set out to catch theWoodkeeper in the darkGloomy Woods, they encounter Fire Lion. King Dedede prepares to attack, but Kirby stops him, and says he has an idea of his own. Kirby inhales Fire Lion to gain the Fire ability. The flame crown on his head shines brightly, and he uses it to light the way to the Woodkeeper's hut. Noticing them, the Woodkeeper makes his small house convert into a helicopter. Kirby decides to try inhaling the flying hut. He drops his Fire ability, and Fire Lion flees.
InKirby Meets the Squeak Squad!, Kirby andWaddle Dee discover an ancient temple. They venture deep into it and reach a room full of Copy Essences. Kirby is excited to see a room with so many of them, and touches the Fire one to gain the Fire ability. They venture further into the temple, and Kirby discovers an egg. Kirby immediately wants to cook it with his fire breath, but then they meet itsmother bird, who tells them everything and trusts them to take care of the egg. Just then,Storo,Spinni, andDoc come in to steal the egg. They get into a short fight with Kirby, who spits flames at Storo and Doc to fend them off. Spinni does not want his scarf to get burnt, so he refuses to fight Kirby, and they retreat. Much later in the story, when Kirby and co. return to the temple to return the egg, they reach the Copy Essence room again, and find out that theSqueaks had been following them. Kirby remembers last time, and goes for the Fire ability again. He starts breathing flames, but forgets to pay attention to his surroundings, and almost scorches the egg. Kirby removes his ability in shock, but fortunately, the egg is fine.
InKirby and the Forgotten Land: Start Running to the New World!, Kirby finds a Fire ability hat at the top ofLab Discovera, shortly after they leave the elevator where "The Dream Discoveries Tour" played. Despite Bandana Waddle Dee's worries that it could be a trap, Kirby inhales the hat and gets the Fire ability. Kirby uses the ability to battleLeongar,Fecto Forgo andFecto Elfilis.
InKirby: Snowy Mountain Nights are Eventful!, Kirby inhales Burning Leo after he asks to be inhaled so that Kirby can melt the ice bars that are imprisoning them. Kirby succeeds, makingFrancisca, the one that had trapped them, angry, and she battles Kirby. Kirby, however, struggles to fight as he's low on stamina due to lack of food, and soon ends up being hit by an attack that makes him drop the ability.

Trivia[edit]
- While not quite thefirst obtainable ability in the series, Fire is the firstCopy Ability ever shown in aKirby game, as it is the first to be demonstrated to the player in the tutorial reel forKirby's Adventure if they wait on the title screen for long enough.
- InKirby's Adventure, it is possible for Fire Kirby to breathe fire underwater for a brief moment by swallowingHot Head to gain the ability while underwater. This causes him to perform his automatic "demonstration" fire breath, which can defeat enemies and lightfuses underwater.
- While Fire itself doesn't appear inKirby's Dream Land 2 andKirby's Dream Land 3, its effect is similar to when Kirby ridesRick orKine and uses the Burning ability, although the latter's attack is much weaker.
- Rick can also use this fire breath on his own accord inKirby Star Allies.
