AWaddle Dee, one of the most well-knownenemies in theKirby series.

Anenemy can generally be defined as any active and distinct entity in aKirby game that is meant to obstruct (or otherwise populate)Kirby or another playable character's path and environment, and will usually deal damage upon contact. Enemies are delineated fromhazards in the notion that they are not part of the environment, though this distinction is often blurred.

Broadly speaking, enemies are separated into three distinct categories: regular enemies (hereafter just referred to as "enemies"),mid-bosses, andbosses. Enemies are distinct from these other two types in the following ways:

  • Enemies can (for the most part) beinhaled to defeat them immediately.
    • Some enemies areimmune to all damage, so must be avoided, as opposed to bosses and mid-bosses, who can always be defeated in some manner. Other enemies are immune to "regular" attacks, but may be harmed by specific special moves, such asRobobot Armor orMouthful Mode attacks.
  • Enemies can always be bypassed instead of fought (outside of specific "ambush" situations in some games).
  • Most enemies tend to be very weak, having littleHP, and often take heavy flinching and/or knockback from attacks.
  • Most enemies will reappear after being defeated if Kirby leaves an area and then comes back (this is largely not the case inKirby and the Forgotten Land).

Although enemies are typically hostile to Kirby, they can be compelled into becoming Kirby'sfriends in games such asKirby Super Star andKirby Star Allies.

List of enemies[edit]

The following is a list of every distinct enemy in theKirby series, sorted into subsections by first game appearance. Note that this list does not take into account games that are not yet released. Games that do not show up as subsections did not introduce any new enemies. For lists of mid-bosses and bosses, see themid-boss andBoss pages respectively:
