Drill is aCopy Ability that equipsKirby with a yellow hard hat with a visor and a large drill on top. This ability allows Kirby to attack foes either directly using the drill, or by digging into the ground and popping up elsewhere to attack from below. This ability made its first appearance inKirby and the Forgotten Land, and reappears as a carrot-themedCopy Food Ability inKirby's Dream Buffet and with a different design inKirby Air Riders.
Game appearances[edit]
Kirby and the Forgotten Land /Kirby and the Forgotten Land – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star-Crossed World[edit]
Drill Kirby first appeared inKirby and the Forgotten Land and itsNintendo Switch 2 Edition, where it can be obtained from the enemyDigguh. In addition to battling enemies, the Drill ability is also useful for unearthing various items from glowing dirt patches on the ground. It can also be used to remove small piles of sand. Some areas are also only reachable by digging under blockades with the ability. The ability cannot burrow through all surfaces, however, as Kirby will fail to drill through metal surfaces and will only cause a splash of water if he attempts to drill over water.
There are twoevolved forms for Drill—Pencil Drill andTwin Drill—both of which are unlocked by handing blueprints over at Waddle Dee's Weapons Shop. Pencil Drill Kirby can shoot out a pencil projectile out from his hat when he pops up out of the ground. Twin Drill uses two drills and can attack enemies while digging underneath them, and can also shoot a projectile when it emerges from the ground.
Moveset[edit]
All attack names are taken from theKirby and the Forgotten Land Perfect Support Guide unless otherwise stated. Applicable equivalent adapted English names are listed in bold.

Kirby's Dream Buffet[edit]

Drill makes another appearance inKirby's Dream Buffet. Here, instead of giving Kirby a drilling hat, it transforms him into a "drill carrot" when he touches the correspondingCopy Food item. This ability is only available for a limited duration in the Battle Royale stages, and functions in largely the same way as it did inKirby and the Forgotten Land, allowing Kirby to drill and attack his foes using Quake Surge.
Drill Kirby also appears on aCharacter Treat, using his artwork fromKirby and the Forgotten Land.
Kirby Air Riders[edit]
Drill appears inKirby Air Riders, once again with a different design. In this appearance, Drill's hat features one singular drill facing straight up. While equipped, holding the Boost Charge button causes the character to burrow underground; while burrowing, the rider's movement speed is greatly increased, and a colored light appears aboveground indicating the remaining allotted time for a single burrow. When the Boost Charge button is released, or when the maximum burrow time is reached, the rider pops out from underground with a speed boost, damaging enemies and objects nearby.

Trivia[edit]
- In an interview in Nintendo Dream's June 2022 issue regardingKirby and the Forgotten Land,Shinya Kumazaki briefly acknowledged the similarities between Drill andAnimal; he explained that the development team was concerned about including Animal because many of the game's enemies are animals (which could make it difficult to tell which enemies provide the ability), and that Drill was designed to more closely connect a digging ability to the setting of thenew world.[2]
