Grab theDream Rod to summonspecial friends!
— Kirby Star Allies tip

ADream Rod is a type ofitem found exclusively inKirby Star Allies, and is used to summonDream Friends. Upon touching it, a roulette of all available Dream Friends will start, and the player can manually stop it, or wait until it stops automatically. Once the roulette stops, the selected Dream Friend will join the team in the same way asMake Friend. The Dream Rod can only summon one Dream Friend before disappearing.

If the party is full when player 1 uses the Dream Rod, they will be prompted to replace an existing friend. In the Dream Palace, should the player decide not to replace a friend, the Dream Rod will respawn so it can be used again. When a secondary ally picks up the Dream Rod, that ally will be replaced by the resulting Dream Friend, even if the party is full.

Not all Dream Friends are available from the start. At first, onlyBandana Waddle Dee,Rick & Kine & Coo,Marx, andGooey can be summoned from the Dream Rods.King Dedede,Adeleine & Ribbon,Dark Meta Knight, andDaroach are unlocked after clearingClash at Castle Dedede;Meta Knight,Magolor,Taranza, andSusie are unlocked after clearingSacred Square; andThe Three Mage-Sisters are unlocked after clearingHeroes in Another Dimension with at least 100 Friend Hearts collected.

Aside fromDream Palaces, Dream Rods can also be found after pressing some of theBig Switches inGuest Star ???? Star Allies Go!, which can be used to call upon a Dream Friend. They can also be found inHeroes in Another Dimension, usually at the end of each dimension stage.
