Dream Land

| ||||||||||||||
- This article is about the location. For the first game in theKirby series, seeKirby's Dream Land. For the level inKirby's Epic Yarn, seeDream Land (Kirby's Epic Yarn). For the level inKirby Star Allies, seeWorld of Peace: Dream Land.
Dream Land is a kingdom on PlanetPopstar in whichKirby lives, which is typically defined by its rolling green grasslands and forests, tropical beach locales, brown stone caves, cloud-based topography, and a few castle-like structures, most notablyCastle Dedede. It has been targeted by several wrongdoers, which Kirby and others are tasked with stopping. The kingdom is known for its peaceful nature, and is home to theFountain of Dreams which spreads restful dreams across the land.
General description[edit]

Dream Land can be described as a particular region of PlanetPopstar over whichKing Dedede claims sovereignty, sometimes said to be a small country[1] or kingdom.[2] However, it is not known exactly where the kingdom ends and the rest of Popstar begins. Despite this, it is generally understood that the topography of Dream Land consists mainly of lush meadows, forests and old castles.Kirby's House occupies one of the meadows, whileWhispy Woods resides in the forest, and King Dedede makes his home in his castle atopMt. Dedede. In addition, many cloudscapes persist above Dream Land, whereKracko andKabula can sometimes be found.
TheFountain of Dreams is located inside an area of Dream Land calledRainbow Resort. There are similar facilities on the surrounding planets around Popstar.
Dream Land is often described in Japanese material as "astonishingly peaceful" (あきれるほど平和), a phrase that has persisted since its very first appearance. The land is so defined by its ordinary state of peace and quiet that any event which disrupts the status quo has the same effect on the locals — whether that be an invasion from another world or merely being unable to dream at night.
Meta Knight and hisMeta-Knights are also commonly seen in Dream Land, though it is not entirely clear if their base of operations — theHalberd — is docked there or not.
Lastly, Dream Land is home to countless numbers ofWaddle Dees,Waddle Doos, and others who have varying degrees of loyalty to King Dedede.
- Dream Land is home-sweet-home for Kirby and many other cuddly-but-dangerous creatures.
- Kirby traversing throughGreen Greens, an area within Dream Land
- A clear view of the Fountain of Dreams, as seen inKirby: Nightmare in Dream Land
- Even after the most far-flung adventures, Kirby always manages to wake back up in Dream Land.

Game appearances[edit]
The following lists every game where Dream Land is a setting or at least mentioned. Some games not listed here may take place in Dream Land, but this is not explicitly confirmed at any point.
Kirby's Dream Land[edit]
The first game of the series takes place entirely in Dream Land. Kirby ventures throughGreen Greens,Castle Lololo,Float Islands,Bubbly Clouds and finallyMt. DeDeDe in order to defeat the gluttonous king and recover the stolen food and stars to Dream Land's denizens.
Kirby's Adventure /Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[edit]

InKirby's Adventure and its remake,Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, the residents of Dream Land stop having dreams becauseKing Dedede steals the Star Rod that lets them sleep peacefully. He then divides it into 7 parts and gives them to his underlings. Kirby eventually puts the Star Rod back together, but discovers that King Dedede actually stole the Star Rod to keep it from a villain namedNightmare, who wishes to spread bad dreams across the land. Kirby defeats Nightmare and allows Dream Land to have pleasant dreams once more.
Kirby's Dream Course[edit]
The backstory presented in both the instruction booklet and the Japanese version tell of how the people of Dream Land fell into despair after King Dedede stole all the stars from Dream Land once again. It is unclear, however, if the courses ofKirby's Dream Course take place there or not.
Kirby's Avalanche[edit]
The instruction booklet forKirby's Avalanche confirms that the game takes place in Dream Land, as indicated by the presence of theDream Fountain at the end of the adventure.
Kirby's Dream Land 2[edit]

TheRainbow Islands, where the events ofKirby's Dream Land 2 take place, are located within Dream Land.[3] While the islands are likely not the entirety of Dream Land, it is unclear if they are simply a smaller part of it, or a separate but affiliated territory. Regardless, these islands are never seen again in the series outside of a cameo in the background ofSlam Hockey inKirby Battle Royale.
Kirby Super Star /Kirby Super Star Ultra[edit]

Some of the games ofKirby Super Star andKirby Super Star Ultra take place in Dream Land, includingSpring Breeze,[4]Revenge of Meta Knight,[5] andRevenge of the King.[6] It is unclear ifDyna Blade takes place in Dream Land; Dyna Blade is described as disrupting the crops of Dream Land,[7] but it's unknown if the stages of the main game proper are also located in Dream Land.
It is also unclear ifGourmet Race andThe Great Cave Offensive take place in Dream Land. Gourmet Race takes place in "Gourmet World" (グルメット,Gurumetto) and The Great Cave Offensive takes place in a cave called マジルテ (Majirute), but it is unknown if they are part of Dream Land.
Kirby's Dream Land 3[edit]
It is not clear whether any of the areas Kirby visits in this adventure are in Dream Land or not.
Kirby's Star Stacker (Super Famicom)[edit]
The story mode of this game takes place in Dream Land.
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards[edit]
The Japanese website suggests that the stages ofPop Star are located in Dream Land.[8]
Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble[edit]
Thenarrator indicates thatKirby Tilt 'n' Tumble takes place in Dream Land.[9]
Kirby & The Amazing Mirror[edit]
The opening cutscene shows theDimension Mirror floating in the skies above Dream Land, but none of the subsequent game takes place within Dream Land.
Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]
Parts of the opening and ending cutscenes ofKirby: Canvas Curse take place in Dream Land, but the game itself takes place in a world of paintings.[10]Drawcia transforms Dream Land itself into a painting at the beginning of the game; the English text uses vague wording that makes it unclear if the world of paintings is Dream Land, but the Japanese text is more explicit in it being separate, as it has a proper name (絵画の世界, "The World of Paintings"). Dream Land is restored to normal after Drawcia is defeated.
Kirby: Squeak Squad[edit]

The first level ofKirby: Squeak Squad,Prism Plains, takes place within Dream Land.[11] It is in close proximity to Castle Dedede. Most of the rest of the game takes place in an area known as the Underground World (地下世界), which is accessed through an incredibly deep hole called the "Navel of the World" (世界のヘソ) that is feared by the people of Dream Land.[12] The "Navel of the World" is presumablyNature Notch (which is called "Nature Navel" in Japanese and Korean), and since Kirby falls into it directly from Castle Dedede, it is presumably close by.
The Underground World comprises Nature Notch,Cushy Cloud,Jam Jungle,Vocal Volcano, andIce Island. This is indicated by all of them sharing the samelevel map music. The penultimate level,Secret Sea, takes place on the surface, as indicated by it sharing the same level map music as Prism Plains, though its relation to Dream Land is also unclear. The final level,Gamble Galaxy, takes place in space far away from Dream Land, and also uses its own level map music.
Kirby's Epic Yarn /Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn[edit]

- Main article:Dream Land (Kirby's Epic Yarn)
Dream Land serves as the final level inKirby's Epic Yarn andKirby's Extra Epic Yarn. Here, it has been transformed into yarn by the evil sorcererYin-Yarn, a state which is only undone by the defeat of this final boss.Kirby andPrince Fluff are able to travel here to deal with Yin-Yarn once they have fully stitchedPatch Land back together, thus restoring power to the wormhole-likeMagic Socks.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land /Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe[edit]
Magolor's ship — theLor Starcutter — crashes into Dream Land at the start of this title, prompting Kirby and his friends to help recover the lost pieces. This adventure takes them through several wide areas across Planet Popstar, but at least some of these levels (such asCookie Country andWhite Wafers, and likelyOnion Ocean as well) are located outside of Dream Land.[13]
Kirby's Dream Collection Special Edition[edit]
New Challenge Stages takes place in Dream Land, as Magolor mentions he built the theme park it takes place in Dream Land.[14] This is also the case in the original Japanese story of the mode.[15]
Kirby: Triple Deluxe[edit]
The opening cutscene takes place in Dream Land, though the rest of the game takes place in an entirely different kingdom by the name ofFloralia.
While the final level of the game is called "Eternal Dreamland", this is not related to the kingdom itself, and instead refers to a literal "dreamland" of endless slumber.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse[edit]

The opening cutscene takes place in Dream Land, though the rest of the game takes place in an entirely different world by the name ofSeventopia.
Kirby: Planet Robobot[edit]
In this title, Dream Land (along with the rest of Popstar) is consumed by the 'Mechanizing Occupation Project' overseen by theHaltmann Works Company. In the process, Castle Dedede is reduced to rubble. It's up to Kirby to ward off the business-minded alien invaders and restore Dream Land to its former condition.
Kirby Battle Royale[edit]
In this title, King Dedede sets up a giant tournament in Dream Land with a huge cake as the prize. The rest of the story mode revolves around Kirby andBandana Waddle Dee competing for this cake against an unfair host.
Kirby Star Allies[edit]

- Main article:World of Peace: Dream Land
The first level ofKirby Star Allies takes place in Dream Land proper. As Kirby and hisstar allies move through this level, they traverse verdant plains, hearty caves, and inviting woodlands. After defeating a strangely empoweredWhispy Woods, the team then ventures intoCastle Dedede to deal withits gluttonous king, who is gorging himself on dirty food. King Dedede himself transforms in dramatic fashion to battle the star allies, but is defeated, and later recruited into the team to find out what is going on aroundPopstar.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land[edit]
Both the "Kirby and the Mysterious Vortex" and "No Night Is Eternal" cutscenes forKirby and the Forgotten Land feature greenery locations that look similar to the depiction of Dream Land inKirby Star Allies, but there is no confirmation if they are indeed part of Dream Land.
In theSuper Smash Bros. series[edit]

| SmashWiki has more information about this subjecthere. |
Dream Land appears as a stage inSuper Smash Bros.. The stage is set in a grassy plains and consists of three static platforms floating above a main platform, with the middle static platform above the other two. This simple design resemblesBattlefield, which is not playable normally inSuper Smash Bros. outside of the 1-P Game. Whispy Woods is in the background and will occasionally blow wind in one direction which will push fighters around.King Dedede (if he is not a fighter in the match) andBronto Burt can be seen flying in the background. The music that plays on this stage is a remix of the music played on courses 1 and 3 in Gourmet Race fromKirby Super Star.
It returns as a stage inSuper Smash Bros. Melee (unlocked by clearingTarget Test with every character),Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U as paid downloadable content andSuper Smash Bros. Ultimate.
InKirby: Right Back at Ya![edit]

- Main article:Dream Land (anime)
In the anime series, Dream Land is the tropical kingdom whichKing Dedede rules over. The kingdom is largely composed of wilderness — much of which takes the form ofWhispy Woods Forest — and has only one major settlement, calledCappy Town, where most of the King's subjects live.Kirby crashes into Dream Land from outer space, and is made a permanent resident when the people of Dream Land build him a house just outside of town.
While it is established that Cappy Town pays taxes into King Dedede's treasury, the town itself does not see him as a king and protector, so much as a nuisance. Instead, the town seeks guidance from an ancient stone statue calledKabu, found in arocky valley out on the outskirts of the kingdom.

Trivia[edit]

- The June 1994 issue ofShōgaku Sannensei features an illustrated map of Dream Land drawn by Chibi Nyanne, the author of the 1993Hoshi no Kirby manga, which was serialized in the same magazine. However, a disclaimer states that it is merely a map of Dream Land as envisioned by theShōgaku Sannensei editorial staff. The locations on the map include the levels fromKirby's Adventure, as well as several other locations, including:
- TheWarp Star Station (shown in the vicinity of Vegetable Valley);
- Castle Dedede;
- "Gunman Land" (ガンマンランド,Ganman Rando), which looks like the location of theQuick Draw sub-game;
- A town area near Castle Dedede with theCrane Fever machine, a souvenir shop, commemorative photo corner, and restaurant;
- A star-shaped hotel known as the "Dream Hotel" (プププホテル,Pupupu Hoteru);
- An arena that is home to the "Kirby Dance Show" (カービィダンスショー,Kābyi Dansu Shō).
