This article is about Drawcia Sorceress. For her second form, seeDrawcia Soul.
This article is about the boss fromKirby: Canvas Curse, and should not be confused withPaintra,Claycia, orVividria. For the theme of the same name that plays during the boss fight, seeDrawcia Sorceress (theme).
Suddenly, the world's colors warp, and a strange witch arises! Drawing in the air, the witch turns the land into a painting. Seeing Kirby, the witch flees to the sky, towards a weird vortex. Kirby gives chase... Into a world of paintings. He challenges the witch, but her magic turns him into a ball!
— Thenarrator inKirby: Canvas Curse

Drawcia (more formallyDrawcia Sorceress) is a magical and malevolent being who has the power to turn the world around her into a living painting and cast various magical spells, including taking awayKirby's hands and feet and leaving him as aball. She is the main antagonist and finalboss ofKirby: Canvas Curse, responsible for placing a curse onDream Land and its denizens, and whom Kirby must defeat with the help of theMagical Paintbrush, which used to belong to the sorceress. Despite her immense power, her origin and motives are completely unknown.

Since her debut inKirby: Canvas Curse, Drawcia has only made cameo appearances in subsequentKirby titles. However, her design influence is vast on subsequent characters, particularly her possible relativesPaintra andVividria,Claycia, and all of the subsequentSoul-form bosses that use Drawcia Soul's attacks.

Physical appearance[edit]

Dressed in a heavy lavender witch's hat and cloak and with a mask covering most of her face, Drawcia's features are largely hidden behind her outfit, and that along with her long outward-spreading hair give her the appearance of the end of a giant paintbrush. She does not appear to have any limbs, with her cloak moving like the undulating of a jellyfish to propel her through the air. The patterns on the side of her cloak resemble the ones fromDark Matter Blade with similar colors as well. Only a single one of her eyes is visible, which is yellow and featureless, similar to the eyes ofMeta Knight orMagolor, though another prominent glowing spot can be seen on her torso underneath her cloak, which she displays whenever she is conjuring her magical attacks. When she is defeated by Kirby, her features dissolve and congeal around this central glowing orb to formDrawcia Soul.

Kirby: Canvas Curse[edit]

Drawcia makes her only physical appearance inKirby: Canvas Curse, and serves as the last boss in that game. She is also seen conjuring the other bosses that Kirby has to face along the way, though her appearance is only hinted at via her silhouette which gradually lifts until she is finally battled inThe World of Drawcia. Drawcia has two known incarnations: these forms are Drawcia Sorceress andDrawcia Soul.

Drawcia Sorceress[edit]

Kirby battling Drawcia Sorceress inKirby: Canvas Curse.

Drawcia initially faces Kirby asDrawcia Sorceress. In this form, she flies through the air and attacks using swoops and painted creatures which she summons. Drawcia can only be harmed when stunned, which can be done by deflecting her magic spheres back at her usingRainbow Lines. She can be hit up to three times when stunned in this way before resetting. Otherwise, she has a shield active which prevents Kirby and the paintbrush from affecting her.

Attacks[edit]

The following table lists all of Drawcia Sorceress' attacks. Note that attack names are conjectural, with some being based off of known attack names from other bosses:

Drawcia's attacks
AttackDescriptionNotes
Leap
Drawcia leaps around the arena, coming down on one side, then the other.
Magic Sphere
Drawcia throws out an electric ball that explodes on impact with Kirby. It can be deflected by tapping it or drawing a Rainbow Line shield. She does this no more than twice at a time.
Later on, Drawcia may throw out three of these at once.
Dive
Drawcia jumps off-screen, then swoops in from one side. Which side she swoops from is determined by which side she jumps from.
Painter
Drawcia paints an enemy on a canvas, then multiples of that enemy appear to attack Kirby. These can include the following:Drawcia will not return to the stage until all the summoned enemies are defeated or the Deadly Needles attack completes.
Para Sorceress
Drawcia releasesPara Sorceresses to fly at and attack Kirby.
The amount released is greater when Drawcia is at lower HP.
Drawcia Soul[edit]
Drawcia Soul
Main article:Drawcia Soul

When defeated in her Sorceress form, Drawcia morphs into a giant ghostly ball of paint and continues the fight in an entirely different manner. This form seems to be her true self, and (perhaps intentionally) matches Kirby's limbless ball shape. More information about this form and fight can be found on theDrawcia Soul article.

This powerful sorceress once turned Kirby into a rolling pink ball and Dream Land into a world made of paint. Her name is awfully similar to that of Claycia's, but no one knows for sure if the two are actually related.

Trivia[edit]

  • The flavor text forPaintra hints that she and Drawcia may be sisters.[2] These two characters being related is further hinted by their similar names and designs, as well as both using paint-based attacks. Their relationship was seemingly confirmed in the booklet included withKirby Star Allies: The Original Soundtrack, where sketches of Drawcia and Paintra are seen on a page showing concept art forVividria and labelled as "姉様" (ane-sama), meaning "elder sister".
