Dark Castle is the seventh and final level inKirby's Dream Land 2 and belongs to theRainbow Islands. As the name implies, the level is set primarily in the interior regions of a castle swarming with enemies. When playing on aSuper Game Boy, the level features a purple hue and the stage select area features thunderous, low-pitched wind noises.[1] The boss of this level isKing Dedede. IfKirby managed to collect all theRainbow Drops up to this point, he will also battleDark Matter after defeating Dedede.

Cutscene[edit]

Kirby and all three of his friends overlook the castle in the distance. From there, after some 'discussion', Kirby mounts Rick and nudges Kine, then they all move off, with Kine lagging behind.

Overview[edit]

Dark Castle consists of the most individual stages of any level, at seven standard and one for the final boss fight. Despite this, most of the stages are rather short, and tend to mirror each-other. Even given the short length of these stages, Dark Castle's bridges and hallways are perilous, being filled with hazards (including an enormous number ofspikes), tough enemies, and auto-scrolling areas. Everymid-boss in the game is fought as Kirby and hisAnimal Friends ascend the castle.

TheRainbow Drop can be found in Stage 7. Although every path in Stage 7 leads to the Rainbow Drop room, only a specific path will allow Kirby to reach the drop. That path is revealed via a cryptic message written in a dark room.

Stages[edit]

Each stage is unlocked in succession after clearing the previous one. DefeatingKing Dedede and collecting everyRainbow Drop is necessary to move on to the final battle withDark Matter. For more information about a particular stage, click on the link to the stage's page in the table.
